The engine range has been comprehensively revised and prepared for future emissions regulations. At the top of the model range in European and select markets is the latest evolution of the eight-cylinder engine (M 177 Evo) in the Mercedes-Maybach S 680. With 450 kW + 17 kW and a maximum torque of 850 + 205 Newton meters, it offers more power and even more direct responsiveness – on par with the current twelve-cylinder engine. Technical updates and mild-hybrid technology (ISG 2.0) ensure smooth, linear power delivery with efficient energy recuperation. Two Lanchester balance shafts provide exceptional smoothness. In selected markets, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 remains available with the popular 450 kW V12 engine (M 279).

In the Mercedes-Maybach S 580, the now more powerful eight-cylinder engine develops 395 kW + 17 kW and a maximum torque of 750 + 205 Newton meters.

The revised six-cylinder gasoline engine (M 256 Evo) in the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e with EQ Hybrid technology responds more spontaneously and offers an even more effortless and confident driving experience. Customers benefit from a purely electric range of approximately 100 kilometers and more powerful electric acceleration in the mid-range. A cylinder head with optimized intake and exhaust ports, as well as a modified intake camshaft, form the basis for these improvements. Further optimizations in the combustion process and exhaust aftertreatment, along with additional sound insulation measures, ensure outstanding noise and vibration comfort. The plug-in hybrid variant combines this further developed six-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor, increasing the system output by up to 55 kW compared to the previous engine generation. The plug-in hybrid model is available in selected markets.
