THE BLACK MOZART

The story of St. George appears to be one of the most romantic eighteenth century stories.

Born on Christmas Day, 1739 in the French-Caribbean island. Child of a slave from the coast of Senegal and a noble planter.

His mother's African name is Nanon, which in the Manjaco language means "someone". The Manjaco and near neighbouring tribes of the Casamance were among the first slaves. Portugal lost the territory of Guinea to French West Africa, today part of Senegal and called Casamance.
