00:01The start of this year's ski season came with more grass than snow.
00:06It's really like it's raining a lot today so we couldn't do anything.
00:11It doesn't look too promising at the moment.
00:13While a big dump of snow finally arrived last week,
00:16Australian resorts have been filling the gaps with artificial powder made by snow machines.
00:21Snow making for sure is the foundation to have a reliable ski season at the moment.
00:28Such kind of system allows you to plan your ski season,
00:32to plan not only lift operations but, let's say, the whole ski destination.
00:39Artificial snow is made by pumping water and compressed air into the atmosphere as fine mist.
00:44When the temperatures are low and the humidity is right, this mist turns to snow.
00:49But yeah, there is a pipe system through here, up and down and around and across here.
00:53There are almost 300 snow guns across Perishar,
00:55all of which were critical to opening the resort during one of the warmest dunes on record.
01:01Even so, some days were still too warm for the machines.
01:04But as global temperatures keep rising, technology keeps adapting.
01:08This all-weather system is able to make snow in warmer temperatures.
01:12At Thredbo, that means up to 20 degrees Celsius.
01:15They are working with an internally refrigeration process.
01:22That means we are producing ice flakes which are then getting blown out from the machine.
01:30Snow making keeps you going longer, keeps a good solid base and keeps people happy.
01:37Tech that's now becoming a constant feature of snow in Australia.
01:41OK, this is user-made of the facilitator which is on our website for accuracy.
