00:00With so much production leaving the United States, it absolutely has affected my business a lot.
00:06I have definitely seen a pretty serious decrease in the amount of rentals that we've done
00:12over the past three years. History for Hire Prop House, which was founded in the 80s,
00:18had to lay off workers and cut hours in the last few years after decades of working on some of

00:23most iconic films. These cameras were used on Anchorman. We did Forrest Gump. These go back
00:29to everything from Mad Men to Bonnie and Clyde, Ryan Gosling's Piano Stool for La La Land.
00:35History for Hire is now sending a lot more of their products to sets overseas instead of to sets in
00:41L.A.
00:41But I'm never going to rent as many props to another country as I would be as if that show
00:46was here
00:47because so much of the rentals are, they've dressed the set, they've looked at it, the director has an idea.
00:53Let's add another 200 feet of product. Let's add something different. That ability to be spontaneous
01:01is going to be lost because I can't overnight something to Singapore.
01:06Pam's props are traveling to the places taking productions away from Los Angeles.
01:11We sent these to London. I've also sent these to Canada. We also did a complete unknown about Bob Dylan
01:17with Timothee Chalamet, which was in New Jersey. I shipped a bunch to Japan. I've shipped them to Europe,
01:22Iceland, probably to Budapest for Siegfried and Roy. When we did Elvis with Baz Luhrmann,
01:28our props went to Australia. I would say the thing that's most bittersweet and heartbreaking to me
01:32is the number of businesses in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles that have closed over the
01:38past few years. I think if you talk to every single small business like myself,
01:42the biggest problem we face is the raise in rents. Rents are crazy. A year ago, our landlord took
01:50our rent up 25%. That is a huge amount when you're not making anywhere near what you used to make.
