00:00A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view.
00:07Hello and welcome to Simply the Best, the show where we debate the pop culture subjects we're most passionate about,
00:13but you choose the winner.
00:15I'm your moderator, Rebecca Brayton.
00:16Today's topic, live action remakes, yay or nay?
00:20Our debaters are Tori on team yay and Shayna on team nay.
00:24Each debater will have 30 seconds to make their case, followed by a 10 second rebuttal.
00:29Once that's done, we leave the decision to you.
00:32So now I welcome our speakers into the arena.
00:35We flipped a coin, which Shayna won, and she has chosen to speak last.
00:39Tori, your 30 seconds starts now.
00:42All right, neurologically, our brains are resistant to change, so why am I going to reject a live action remake?
00:48Maybe I have seen this movie before, but now The Rock is in an ugly wig and I'm just simply
00:54not hardwired to reject this.
00:55Listen, I love an original blockbuster as much as the next guy, but sometimes I need a movie that lets
01:00me turn my brain off.
01:02Plus, the live action remake train isn't stopping anytime soon, so what the hell?
01:06Get me a big popcorn and a Diet Coke and I'm sad.
01:08Plus, if you're going out to the movie theater and supporting your local theater, I don't care what you go
01:12see.
01:13Fair enough.
01:14All right, Shayna, you get your 30 seconds now.
01:17Look, the very best of these live action adaptations only hit based on how well they recreate the original,
01:23which is still there for me to watch whenever I want on the streaming service I pay for.
01:27I'm supposed to pay movie theater prices for the same thing, but with worse visuals, bad color grading,
01:32and at least one beloved character rendered into nightmare fuel.
01:35In this economy?
01:36Plus, there's the fact that animation is a valid and beautiful art form in its own right,
01:41and even does some things better than live action.
01:43Bottom line is, everyone deserves better than an infinite future of some multi-billion dollar corporation's reheated lunches.
01:50All right, Tori, did Shayna say anything you'd like to refute?
01:54Go, 10 seconds.
01:55Absolutely.
01:55In this economy, I'll spend my last dollar at the movie theater on popcorn.
01:59Plus, if you're inspired to go re-watch the original, all the better.
02:03I call that a win-win.
02:04Fair enough.
02:05Okay, Shayna, you get the last word.
02:0710 seconds.
02:08Yeah, somebody's winning in that situation, but it's not the audience.
02:11It's the studios who can afford to do better, and we should expect better.
02:15K-pop Demon Hunters hit for a big reason, and we should pay attention to that.
02:19All right.
02:20So, who made the better case?
