Heavy rains in Maharashtra have triggered a significant landslide on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, causing severe disruptions to vehicular and railway traffic. The landslide occurred around 4:00 AM on Monday near tunnel number 40, directly impacting the recently inaugurated missing link section. As a result, the concrete slab on top of the tunnel collapsed, blocking the route from Pune to Mumbai. Vehicular traffic has been diverted to the older route, leading to considerable traffic jams and slow movement. In response to the crisis, railway authorities immediately halted operations, safely bringing back two trains travelling from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Bangalore and from Daund to Gwalior. Furthermore, a total of 18 trains have been cancelled, including 14 operating primarily between Mumbai and Pune, as well as services to Solapur and Dhule. Restoration work is currently underway, though efforts are hampered by heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Officials estimate that clearing the debris and restoring full connectivity will take several hours.

01:00As far as movement of people is concerned, it's a landslide that occurred at tunnel number 40 at the Mumbai
01:07Pune route is what we know.
01:10It has been opened as of now. The traffic is being allowed.
01:13But images are the manner in which efforts were being made to clear out the debris, remove the debris that
01:19had fallen on the road following the landslides.
01:23Vidya sent us the support earlier. Let's take a look.
01:27We are right now in the Mumbai Pune Expressway and this is the missing link that had been inaugurated in
01:33a much faster than about two months ago.
01:36But right here, you can see how this entire landslide has happened around Monday 4 o'clock in the morning.
01:43And since then, amidst heavy rainfall, gusty wind that you can see here, they are trying to restore this entire
01:51way.
01:51The traffic that had entered this place that was taken out from the older room itself,
01:59vehicular traffic is going on between Pune to Mumbai.
02:03This is the portion of the road between Pune to Mumbai where this entire landslide has happened.
02:09And right here, you can see entire work, according to the contractor here, will take about three to four hours.
02:16Around three hours is maximum that they are saying that they will be able to restore this work and put
02:21it back for use for the vehicular traffic to move.
02:23Right here, you can see how the entire, during the landslide, the entire concrete work, this entire slab,
02:31which was on top of this tunnel, that collapsed right here.
02:35And thankfully, there was not much traffic around that time.
02:38Or else, it could have led to a much bigger measure.

04:22missing link.
04:23Remember this missing link on the Mumbai-Pune expressway was inaugurated by the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister
04:30with much fanfare around two months ago.
04:34And right here, the very entrance of, you know, if you're coming in from Pune going towards Mumbai, at the
04:42end of the tunnel, this entire, you know, landslide has taken place because of which you can see the entire
04:48traffic on the expressway of this portion has been stopped.
04:53The expressway is being used, the older one, that is still being used for people to reach Mumbai.
05:01And certainly that is creating quite a lot of traffic jams.
05:04The traffic movement on that route is slightly slow.
