00:01The following program is Rated G.
00:30Not a fan of this tile.
00:32Something has made you excited.
00:35The kitchen.
00:35Proving that the only mistake is waiting too long to do it.
00:40Brianna and Josh love adventure.
00:43They've traveled the world, but now they're ready for their biggest move yet.
00:46Small town living.
00:47So they want to pull the curtain on their life in Nashville
00:50and trade it all in for a whole new existence
00:52on Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore.
00:54They're a great couple.
00:55Josh is a vet, and Brianna, well, she is a very sparkly jewelry appraiser.
00:59Now, not only are they moving their livelihoods,
01:01they're moving their ten pets as well.
01:04Four cats, four bunnies, and two dogs.
01:06They need a home with bags of character,
01:08but just as importantly, loads of space to raise their furry brood.
01:12And we're here to help them find their forever home.
01:16Oh, I see what you did there, Colin.
01:23Well, guys, welcome.
01:24Welcome to beautiful Lunenburg.
01:26Brianna is the poster child of tourism on the South Shore.
01:30It's absolutely gorgeous.
01:31All of these colored homes and everything, the view over the water.
01:34It's just spectacular.
01:35It's a brilliant part of the world.
01:36The UNESCO site, 2,400 people.
01:38Fishing industry is still part of what's going on here,
01:41and it certainly was previously, but tourism has really taken over.
01:45So you actually are from Nova Scotia, am I right?
01:48So I was born in Halifax, have family in Halifax,
01:50moved to the States when I was a kid because my mom's American.
01:53We just decided we needed a bit of a change.
01:55We needed a smaller community
01:57and decided we needed to come back to Nova Scotia.
01:59I love that. Good Canadian girl coming home.
02:02Exactly.
02:02So are you ready to move to Canada?
02:03I absolutely am.
02:05I was born in Hawaii, raised in Chicago,
02:08and lived most of my life in Illinois.
02:10And so to be able to be next to the ocean again is a major draw for me.
02:16Any other aspects you're really looking for as you settle here?
02:18So animals, of course, are really big in our life.
02:21And through our traveling, we've done a lot of different animal-related experiences.
02:25We've gone to the elephant orphanage in Kenya.
02:28We have gone gorilla and chimpanzee trekking in Uganda.
02:32So big animal lovers.
02:34So one thing that we are really interested in,
02:36wherever we are, is being part of the animal community.
02:39I also have multiple rescue bunnies from Nashville.
02:43I love you too.
02:44Everything I hear, another layer, I love even more.
02:47Yes.
02:48For our new house, I am looking for a home with characters.
02:52Also, I need a space for a home office that I can meet clients in.
02:57We're really looking for something that has plenty of room for all of our many animals
03:00and people to visit.
03:02So probably four bedrooms, at least two bathrooms,
03:05and something near the water, any kind of water.
03:08Our budget is 600,000.
03:11You're obviously Dr. Doolittle when it comes to animals.
03:14When it comes to property searches, we're doctors do a lot.
03:17We're going to go out of our way to find you something spectacular.
03:20I'm going to find you a house that I think will be absolutely perfect as my pick.
03:24And then you're going to discount that house totally because it's going to be so wrong.
03:28And you're going to pick my pick, which is going to be the most perfect house you've ever seen.
03:33And when you realise that that was a really, really bad potential move,
03:36we're going to go out and find a combo pick.
03:38And hopefully one of those three will be the answer to your dreams.
03:41We're ready.
03:45So we are in beautiful Riverport, about 20 or maybe 25 minutes from Lunenburg.
03:50The community is tiny, 350 people.
03:53You're right at the mouth of the Le Havre River.
03:55So behave in Le Havre.
03:57Look at that house.
03:58Wow.
03:58OK, what do you think of our minty marvel?
04:00Oh, man.
04:01I would say the architecture of it is phenomenal.
04:03The mint is something.
04:05It's bright.
04:06I mean, it definitely is a polarising colour, but you could fix that with paint.
04:08Absolutely.
04:09The house itself, beautiful.
04:10But the architecture of it, I love it.
04:12Also, with this property, you've got 100 feet of frontage there.
04:16It's amazing that you have the water right across the street, the ability to build the dock.
04:21So we wanted water.
04:23This particular house built in 1895 would have been a captain's house.
04:27OK.
04:27So you've just been promoted nautically.
04:30Oceanfront, century home, approximately 130 years old, and arranged over two commodious floors.
04:37You've got five bedrooms hiding in there, two bathrooms as well, almost 1,900 square feet.
04:42And I think the big takeaway from this one is the price.
04:48$525,000.
04:49Wow.
04:50Yeah.
04:50The mint looks a lot better.
04:52It does, doesn't it?
04:52It does.
04:53Suddenly it's become a royal mint.
04:55It leaves room for paint.
04:56Shall we take a peek inside?
04:58Yeah.
04:58Come on.
04:58Fabulous.
05:00There you go.
05:01Oh, look at this.
05:10Let's get you guys in here.
05:11Let's head around to the left.
05:12Oh, wow.
05:12Oh, look at this.
05:14OK.
05:16Beautiful windows.
05:17View of the water.
05:19All this natural light.
05:20I love.
05:20Yeah.
05:21It's great having the windows on three sides.
05:22You really feel connected to the outside, don't you?
05:24Very much.
05:25What do we think about the position of the wood burning stove?
05:27I love that it's going to heat you as soon as you come in the house.
05:31I don't know if it's in a perfect spot for the animals.
05:34Because it's right in the middle of your hallway and the hallways already compromised.
05:37I love the fireplace.
05:38I wish there was a way that we could reestablish that.
05:42That's a gorgeous original feature.
05:44Yeah.
05:44I'd be opening that up because I find it's almost like you're choking one of the real assets of the
05:49home.
05:49You know what?
05:50We're certainly getting our money's worth out of that stove.
05:52It's getting warm in here.
05:53Pretty toasty.
05:54And let's continue.
05:57Nice.
05:58OK.
05:58All right.
06:00Big, spacious.
06:01Another fake fireplace.
06:02Another one choking.
06:04There's another bedroom through there with a bathroom.
06:07So that could make a great little office for you guys.
06:09OK.
06:09OK.
06:10And you know, the great thing about this dining room is the kitchen's just next door.
06:14Oh, wow.
06:16Love the nook.
06:17I think the weird thing here is that the kitchen feels too modern.
06:21Where they could have had something that really leaned into the heritage of the house but was still modern.
06:25I would replace the backsplash.
06:27Mm-hmm.
06:27And I would fix the handles and pulls.
06:30And I think that would change the whole look of the kitchen.
06:34Exactly.
06:34Imagine a really appropriate light fitting.
06:36Mm-hmm.
06:36Floor's good in here.
06:38Floor's great.
06:38And as you say, lose those handles and go for almost like a farmy feel.
06:41Mm-hmm.
06:43All right.
06:44Oh, nice.
06:44So we have a good amount of space.
06:46Nice.
06:46Could you imagine all your furry creatures on display?
06:48Yeah.
06:48I absolutely could.
06:49Lots of space for the dogs.
06:51I would say that, add on to the bill, that we're going to have to build a fence.
06:55Oh, OK.
06:55Great view.
06:56It's really private, even though the neighbors are around, which is really nice.
07:00Mm-hmm.
07:00Is it time to take you lovelies to the bedrooms?
07:02You'll have to buy me a drink first.
07:04OK.
07:05Right.
07:05It's following me up this super cute curved staircase with four bedrooms up here.
07:10One there.
07:11Oh, look at the windows again.
07:13Oh, wow.
07:13With the water.
07:14Now, this room has a lot of character.
07:16We've got a great little bedroom in there.
07:18Cute bathroom in there.
07:20And then into this, which I actually really love.
07:23This is the primary bedroom.
07:24Oh, nice.
07:25OK.
07:25This is lovely.
07:27This is that classical feel that we were talking about, the historical look.
07:30There's no storage.
07:32You know, there's nowhere to put anything.
07:33For me, I would probably build out on each side of this.
07:37You would get two good closets in there, his and hers, and you would still have all this
07:40space to play with.
07:41What are we looking at when we add all those things together?
07:44So we have the downstairs fireplaces.
07:48We have the kitchen.
07:49Lack of closet space up here.
07:51So with that shopping list, that is really going to push you guys over your $600,000 budget.
07:55Do you think we could spend a little bit more?
07:58Uh, I think if it were a move-in ready house, with the character, everything that we're
08:04looking for, I would be OK going up to seven.
08:07Oh, wait a minute.
08:08Normally people tell us not to spend their money.
08:10You're saying spend more money.
08:12I always say spend more.
08:14Yes, spend, spend, spend, baby.
08:15Yes, he does.
08:15We're going to get on just fine.
08:17But is this place still a contender?
08:19Definitely.
08:20It's definitely on the list.
08:26Well, one thing's for certain, life is chilly but never boring.
08:29Today we are on Hurtle Beach to meet Kathleen from the Canadian Sea Turtle Network.
08:34Hello.
08:35Hi.
08:35Meet Annie.
08:36Oh my goodness.
08:37This is a model of a leatherback sea turtle.
08:40She's a big girl, huh?
08:41So Josh and Brianna are thinking of moving here.
08:44Oh, you should definitely come.
08:45I had no idea that Canada had sea turtles, and so I'm doubly in now.
08:50Oh, amazing.
08:51Yeah, we have four species of sea turtles that come to Canadian waters.
08:53All are endangered.
08:55They come up here from South and Central America to feed on our jellyfish.
08:58So one of the things that we do at this time of year is we walk the beaches looking for
09:02turtles that have washed up cold stems, so hypothermic.
09:05I volunteer at a wildlife rescue in Nashville, so this would be right up my alley.
09:10Josh, you've got a tattoo, aren't you?
09:12I do.
09:12Of a sea turtle?
09:13Yeah, he does.
09:13Come on.
09:14Look at that.
09:15It's good to be.
09:16When I was a teenager in Hawaii, I swam way too far out to sea, and I met a sea
09:21turtle
09:21and swam back in with him.
09:24Come on.
09:25That's incredible.
09:26That's perfect.
09:26You actually met a sea turtle, and the turtle guided you back to safety.
09:30Yeah.
09:30All the more reason that you two need to be on this bridge.
09:34I love finding ways to connect with the animal community and the people community wherever
09:39we live, so I think this would really make a difference.
09:41Especially animal people, because animal people are our people.
09:44You are Dr. Doolittle.
09:46It's an actual fact, so you are Dr. Doolittle.
09:49It's just so heartwarming.
09:51You're really coming at your shell today.
09:52Absolutely.
09:53Again, sea turtles, Canada, I'm ready.
09:56We need to find you a new home and turtles.
09:59Uh-huh.
09:59Yeah.
10:00And I think something else we need to find?
10:02A cup of coffee.
10:03Yes.
10:03Blue's urgent.
10:04Let's head back to the world.
10:05Come on.
10:06Please.
10:09Chaps, this is the gorgeous community known as Spectacle Lake.
10:13You're minutes from Lunenburg, and thank goodness you give us that extra $100,000 to
10:17spend because I was able to find this pick.
10:20First impressions?
10:21It's huge.
10:23I think we said to increase it by $100,000, not several hundred thousand.
10:28I'm going to come to the price in a moment.
10:30I just want to get your feelings about it.
10:31It's amazing.
10:32The lines are really unusual.
10:35All of these bay windows are amazing.
10:38The color, once again, we might need to chat about the color.
10:41I don't love the stilts under the bay windows.
10:44Yeah.
10:45The chicken legs.
10:45They're a bit fragile looking.
10:47And that staircase needs a bit of work as well.
10:49There's so many assets here that you're going to fall in love with.
10:52Let's look at the evidence.
10:54It's lakefront, one and a half stories, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, just a shade under
10:594,800 square feet, and that all-important ticket price of $700,000.
11:06What?
11:07What?
11:07It is the home of your dreams.
11:09I know it.
11:10Okay, this better be magnificent inside, okay?
11:13Because at $700,000, there's going to be no money to go out ever again.
11:17There's an entire rental suite that you could drive income from.
11:21Giving me a breath.
11:22Ah.
11:23I like that.
11:24Okay.
11:24Come on, have a look.
11:25Okay.
11:27Oh, my God.
11:36First impressions.
11:38Oh, my God.
11:39Oh, my.
11:40This is magnificent.
11:41It's big.
11:42And this floor.
11:44We know I like a good floor.
11:46Chevron flooring.
11:47Oh, my gosh.
11:47Wow.
11:48These windows and the amount of light that they bring in is unreal.
11:52Look at those views, guys.
11:53Yeah, great view of the road there, Justin.
11:56Great view of the water beyond, Colin.
11:57Don't be a negative Nelly.
11:58It's so grand.
11:59We talked about, like, the concern for the cramped quarters for the animals.
12:04Do not have those concerns here.
12:06I mean, there's so much to love everywhere you look.
12:08You walk into that lovely spacious hallway.
12:10To the left is a really cozy family room with a big fireplace.
12:14But listen, get your coats off.
12:15Come and have a wander, because you're going to fall in love.
12:17Oh, my goodness.
12:18Straight dining room.
12:20More of your flooring.
12:21Look, imagine a big table in here with your family, all your lovely furry friends gathered around.
12:25I could definitely see having people over here.
12:28There's plenty of space to socialize.
12:31Now, are you ready for some kitchen sink drama?
12:33Prepare yourself for this, baby.
12:35Oh, my goodness.
12:37It's very Bavarian Christmas village.
12:39It's also got a wee spot of the 1980s family pizza restaurant where you have the salad bar.
12:43I could see it.
12:44Justin, this puts the eek in unique.
12:46I think this is great.
12:47It puts the eek into chic.
12:48I mean, I love the size of the kitchen.
12:51I love the wood, the uniqueness.
12:53I think it's fine.
12:55Fine.
12:56Fine.
12:57Oh, my God.
12:58I hear a butt.
12:59It's just weird.
13:00Uh-oh.
13:01Uh-oh.
13:01That's not a buying signal I'm hearing.
13:03It could be good weird, though.
13:04It could be good weird.
13:06There are shingles everywhere.
13:08I like the shingles.
13:09It's definitely quirky.
13:10It's definitely unlike anything else that I've seen.
13:12In a world where everybody has a white kitchen and a granite countertop, this is unique.
13:18We love unique, and this is unique.
13:21Mm-hmm.
13:21So we've got so much space here.
13:23Let's go and check out the east wing and find out if it's similarly weird to the kitchen.
13:27Okay.
13:28We are now leaving Bavaria.
13:29We are.
13:30So two bedrooms here, house bathroom there.
13:33Now, say your prayers, because we're going up these stairs.
13:38Wait till you see what I've got up here.
13:40Oh, my God.
13:40How does it keep going?
13:42Oh, my gosh.
13:44It's just incredible.
13:46This is configured as a one-bedroom rental potential.
13:49This could also work for you as an office.
13:52This would be an incredible space to meet clients in.
13:54So now you're beginning to see why I chose this as my pick.
13:58I am.
13:59Come on back downstairs.
13:59You can.
14:00Prepare for a bobby dazzler of a primary bedroom suite.
14:04Whoa.
14:05Oh, my God.
14:06This is the size of my first house.
14:09That wallpaper is to die for.
14:10Isn't it?
14:11It is.
14:11So much to love.
14:13Could this be your primary bedroom?
14:15I mean, it's pretty amazing.
14:16It's spectacular.
14:17Do not unpack your bunnies just yet, okay?
14:20Because we've still got my pick to look at.
14:22And talking of bunnies, I think it's time to meet the rest of your family.
14:25Come on.
14:29Oh, there they are.
14:31Look at your bunnies.
14:32Is it nice being reunited with them?
14:34Yeah.
14:34These are our bunnies.
14:36They're staying at our friend's house right now.
14:39The dogs and the cats are at our rental with us, but they're here.
14:42So who's hiding in there?
14:43We have Jennifer Lopez.
14:45She is a New Zealand white.
14:48She has a bit of a head tilt, as you can see.
14:50What caused that?
14:51She had an inner ear infection when she was little.
14:53Okay.
14:54And it caused a little bit of neurological damage.
14:55But she's otherwise totally normal and thriving.
14:59She's being her own lady.
15:00Okay.
15:00And who's over here?
15:01This pair?
15:02This couple is David Hasselhoff and Macy Gray.
15:05Nice.
15:06And then on the fur end, that's Audrey Hoppern.
15:08I love it.
15:09Yeah.
15:10So am I right in thinking that you actually brought cats, dogs, and bunnies with you from
15:14the U.S.?
15:15We did.
15:16How was that?
15:17We had two dogs, four cats, and all four of our bunnies.
15:21Two cars, five days, about eight hours a day, unloading and reloading everybody.
15:27The most fun I never want to have.
15:28I'm sure.
15:29And we are looking forward to reuniting everybody back together here soon.
15:33I love that.
15:34And you get visitation rights.
15:35Exactly.
15:36Fortunately.
15:36So they love cilantro.
15:38Look at that.
15:38I'm going to let you feed David and Macy.
15:41Look at David nibbling away.
15:43Come on, you.
15:44What about Audrey?
15:45Come on, my darling.
15:47What's up, dog?
15:47Come on.
15:49Come on.
15:49There's a lot of space down here.
15:51Is this the kind of thing you need in your own home?
15:53Yeah, I would say we need at least one bedroom or a basement or some type of a space, you
15:58know,
15:58that they can live in.
15:59Bree rescued all of these rabbits in Nashville.
16:03To know that you've done that makes me like you guys even more.
16:05And makes me all the more ambitious to find you a home that's relevant to your needs.
16:09Because these little guys needed you and you came along and you helped them.
16:11Yeah.
16:12Kind of like us to you.
16:13Oh.
16:14You're a little bunny, aren't you?
16:15Yes.
16:15Hop along now.
16:17Some cilantro.
16:23There they are.
16:25Hey!
16:26Welcome to Bridgewater.
16:28I'd say that you're three for three on getting us near the water.
16:31This is pretty amazing.
16:32You know, Bridgewater, really picturesque town.
16:348,800 people.
16:36It's a real hub.
16:36It's the largest town by population on the South Shore.
16:40What are your thoughts on this bad boy?
16:42I love it.
16:43I love it.
16:43It's massive.
16:44It is.
16:45And it has all of the architecture that we've been talking about.
16:48A lot of character.
16:50You know what?
16:50This is not a house.
16:52It's an estate.
16:53We're looking at two stories, right?
16:55But the two front areas here are actually rental units.
16:58So you could keep them as separate units or you could integrate them into your life, into your business.
17:03It's got a great river view.
17:04Two stories.
17:05Five bedrooms, four bathrooms.
17:09Almost 2,900 square feet, which is super generous.
17:12The list price of this house?
17:15$649,000.
17:16That's a lot of house for that much.
17:19Let's get you guys in here.
17:21Oh, my.
17:29Let's get you guys upstairs.
17:31Ooh, I love this banister railing.
17:34Oh, feast your eyes on this house.
17:36Oh, my.
17:37This is beautiful.
17:39Look at these ceilings.
17:40I love the openness.
17:42I love the amount of light.
17:43It's very cozy.
17:44I could see friends and family hanging out in here while we're cooking.
17:48The wood stove in the corner.
17:50It's just beautiful.
17:51I mean, everything in this space is really appealing.
17:53But Colin, there's a white elephant in this room.
17:56Is it you?
17:57It's not me, Colin, because I've slimmed down, as you know.
17:58But this is the only living area, and it's properly diminutive.
18:03Lilliputian, in fact.
18:04Doll size and tiny.
18:06Come on, now.
18:06This is only the living space at the moment.
18:09You remember, there are two principal rooms downstairs that are currently let out units.
18:13But remember, there is a whole other house there.
18:16And I think you're going to be surprised when you actually see the rest of this floor.
18:19Right, guys, you want to head through there, you know?
18:21Bedroom three is on your left, and you continue straight on.
18:24Come on, this is an incredible feature, no?
18:26This is incredible.
18:27So awesome.
18:28Amazing.
18:28There's a bedroom in here.
18:29I love these original hardwoods.
18:31Hmm.
18:32My favorite.
18:33Yeah.
18:33So, great space in there.
18:35And if you follow me in here, this is the principal bedroom.
18:37Oh, wow.
18:39I absolutely love this house.
18:41Yeah, this house is a whole vibe.
18:43And we are fans.
18:45This room is great.
18:46The built-ins.
18:48Yes.
18:48More of the floors.
18:50Amazing.
18:50I love the nooks and all the bay windows.
18:53The light is amazing.
18:54And this gives you an idea of the footprint of the room downstairs as well.
18:57You know, we can't get into that because the tenants are in at the moment.
18:59But you just get a feel for the light space that you've got in both of those front rooms.
19:04Just wait until you see outside.
19:05Ooh, okay.
19:06Okay.
19:08Oh, this deck is great, too.
19:10That maple.
19:11Can you imagine this when it's in full leaf?
19:13Yeah.
19:13That was what I was just thinking.
19:14I got to imagine it's beautiful.
19:15Couple of donkeys, a hippopotamus, a giraffe.
19:20Could you create your animal sanctuary out here?
19:22I mean...
19:23There's plenty of space.
19:24There's plenty of space.
19:24Yeah.
19:25I think that, you know, trying to figure out where the fence would go would be part of it.
19:29But I think that that would be a problem that I'd like to have.
19:32I love this.
19:33Dr. Doolittle wants to do a lot.
19:34There's a lot to see.
19:35Let's go and check out this little hut here.
19:37This is incredibly beautiful.
19:39It's like a magical forest.
19:40Isn't it?
19:41Yes.
19:41Okay, you're looking for something unique, escapist, and charming for your business.
19:45Uh-huh.
19:45This could be your office.
19:47Robin's Nest Cabin.
19:48Go and have a look.
19:48Okay.
19:49I love it.
19:51This is so cozy.
19:53Oh, my gosh.
19:55It's like our own little cabin in the woods back here.
19:57Hi, look at this sweet little stove.
20:00This is adorable.
20:01Absolutely.
20:02Oh, my gosh.
20:04Okay.
20:05That is so cute.
20:06I can see why you were excited to show us that.
20:09Decisions, decisions.
20:10We've shown you three what we think are glorious properties.
20:13But are you guys ready to make up your mind?
20:15I think that...
20:16I think we need to sleep on it.
20:17You've got a lot of thinking to do, you guys.
20:19A lot.
20:20A lot of thinking.
20:24Well, it's fair to say, Colin, it is crunch time.
20:27Three really wonderful houses.
20:29But only one of them is going to make the pick.
20:31Think about the combo pick.
20:33I personally love that house.
20:35A captain's house.
20:36100 feet of water frontage as well.
20:38Sure, the colour scheme was a little bit questionable.
20:41There was a lot of good in that property.
20:43They came out of that house thinking, let's spend another $100,000.
20:47I put my glasses on and I came up with a beauty in Spectacle Lakes,
20:51which I think takes an awful lot of the boxes.
20:54And what did you give them?
20:55A house with a questionable colour scheme.
20:57Come on.
20:57That muted lemon.
20:59And the kitchen.
21:01Bavarian pizza.
21:02They were still looking for character.
21:04And I think my home gives them all of that.
21:07It is a really handsome, handsome house.
21:09A beautiful location with a view overlooking the river.
21:13And tons of room for all the animals.
21:15Who would not want that fabulous backyard?
21:18Do you know, at times like this, I wish I had a crystal ball.
21:20Because if I did, I could look into the future
21:22and see which choice they'd make.
21:25There they are!
21:26There they are, yeah.
21:27So come on.
21:28Have you made a decision?
21:30Ultimately, we went with...
21:34Justin's pick.
21:35Yes!
21:35A smart decision.
21:37What's wrong with Favour?
21:38It was really all of the space.
21:40I could see the animals really getting to spread out
21:42and really enjoy their lives the most there.
21:44Yes.
21:45I also love the convenience of it.
21:47It's right in between Lunenburg and Bridgewater.
21:49Plus the space for the office so clients could come to me
21:52really just tipped it over.
21:53It's a house with the real potential.
21:55Thank you both so much for helping us.
21:57Oh my gosh.
21:57We've loved working with you.
21:58Our pleasure.
21:59It's been a real dream to find your home.
22:03We love it.
22:04We wanted something unique and special,
22:06and it definitely is that.
22:07All of the space for me has been the biggest upgrade.
22:11For the animals, for us.
22:13To be able to really kind of sprawl out has been excellent.
22:17Brianna and Josh are thrilled with their new home.
22:19They've joined the Turtle Beach Patrol.
22:22Josh has found work at a local vet clinic,
22:24and Brianna has started her business in their new home.
22:28Having traveled the world, they are now ready for the next stage
22:31of their adventure right here in small town Nova Scotia.
22:35I think that we found really our community here,
22:38and that's the most rewarding thing.
22:40That the people here, it's more of a we over a me attitude,
22:44and that was exactly what we were looking for.
