00:00Ever since the moment I screwed it up, as we were finishing season one, I would be in the van
00:05in Puerto Rico with Steve, being like, Steve, I'm going to figure it out. We got this. We got this,
00:09Steve.
00:10And I knew that he would probably only want to come back if it felt like there was a reason
00:16for him to come back. He didn't want to just show up randomly.
00:19And within the tone of the show, it's not really the kind of show. It's hyper-realistic, so it's not
00:24the kind of show where you'd necessarily look into the mirror and talk to your old friend magically or whatever.
00:30So this seemed a logical way to do it, and thank God he was willing to do it.
00:36And then we just spent a lot of time in the writer's room figuring out, okay, if we go back
00:40to the past, what can it tell us about the present to give it a reason to be there?
00:45And so I think we do learn a lot about Nick and Anne's relationship and the beginning of what kind
00:53of started to break her down early on and how she got to be kind of fragile.
