01:00They heard some noise that make them believe that maybe somebody, almost two weeks after the two powerful earthquake, there
01:09is life.
01:10Paula Perry is going to be with us later.
01:13She's close to that side.
01:14We are going to talk to her.
01:16Welcome to From the Field.
01:17This is Carlos Montero.
01:19We are in a rainy Mexico City.
01:23In a few hours, Mexico is going to play against England.
01:26More probably, that game is going to be delayed.
01:28But before talking about football, let's talk about what's going on in Venezuela.
01:34We are very worried about the situation.
01:37I want to share with you the last numbers.
01:40Venezuela Earth Square death reached 3,352.
01:471,740 people injured.
01:516,462 people were rescued.
01:55And 1,000 still missing.
01:57I don't know if Paola is ready to talk to us because, like I said before, Paola is in that
02:04site where rescue workers, they heard some noise that would make them believe maybe there is life in that place.
02:16We have detected presence of seismic movements, we have found someone in the building, and what we are doing with
02:26the machinery, what we are trying to do is removing weight from the upper part of the building to lower
02:34the risk for the entry of the rescuers.
02:41We have located a place where it could possibly be a victim, but to give safety to the rescuers, we
02:51are removing weight from the upper part.
02:53So, according to information that you have given us, you said that you rescued that dog, will it be a
02:58person or an animal?
03:00Well, what you know is that the heat signals that we find are completely different.
03:09We have confirmed the presence of life, but we do not know if it could be the gases which are
03:18giving us a false positive or that they're having someone there.
03:24So, the operation, how much is the estimated time, I know, which was subjected by the conditions of the infrastructure,
03:34which will condition the rescue work.
03:37Well, we need to depend on what the crane will do, the cuts that are going up there, and the
03:44time we will take to remove four or five layers.
03:51And obviously, we want to provide information and not cause hope due to a false positive, but it could be
03:59a miracle if you would find someone, because 11 days have passed since the earthquakes, but everything is a miracle.
04:08From the first day, everything is a miracle because of the earthquake's magnitude, but I think it would be a
04:15double miracle if we could rescue someone who is alive.
04:20It would not be the last one, but there have been cases where people have been, the possibilities are low
04:30because of dehydration, other situations, his body temperature, the possibilities lower each day, but we're still hopeful.
04:42So, that is the motto of rescuers, you never give up.
04:46We work until we definitely cannot do anything else.
04:50Thank you very much.
04:53We'll let you work.
04:54And this is the head of operations from the El Salvador rescuers, who established themselves in this area, and they
05:00told us that the heavy machinery will open way through this concrete and cement slate to see how they can
05:09enter.
05:09They ratify that they are life signs, but what we do not know precisely is from who it is.
05:16But we're going to verify this information with our responsibility.
05:24We're going to keep recording the progress of these works.
05:34Paola Perez, thank you very much.
05:36We really pray for those rescue workers to find somebody alive.
05:41Remember our hashtag, WeStandWithVenezuela.
05:44Imagine to be a person who is trapped in the rubble for 10, almost 11 days.
05:52What's going through their head?
05:53What do they think?
05:55Do they give up hope?
05:59Paola was following the story, and we are going to talk to her later when we have news.
06:03But I want to go with Belen de los Santos.
06:06Belen has a chance to talk to some survivors and ask them what they went through their head.
06:14The stories are beginning to take up clinics and hospitals in Caracas and La Guaira.
06:19They are the testimonies of survivors who are beginning to put into words what they lived through on June 24th.
06:26I was cooking dinner when all of a sudden an earthquake alert went off on our phones.
06:36I was with my husband and my daughter, and the building started moving in circles.
06:47It began to shake, and when we tried to get out of the apartment, the building collapsed and we fell
06:52all 12 floors, floor by floor.
06:59Those were moments of anguish.
07:01I thought the hospital was going to collapse.
07:03My bed started shaking. It pulled away from the wall.
07:07My husband and I were together, and I said, this is it. This is where my life ends.
07:11From the initial fear to the determination to save those closest to them, every experience of the earthquakes has brought
07:19patients and doctors together.
07:21My daughter is 15 years old. Thank God she's okay.
07:26At the last moment, I had the strength to throw myself on top of her to shield her from the
07:30debris that was falling on her.
07:34My family is safe, thankfully.
07:36What I did so that I could be here and give my full attention was send my daughter to the
07:41interior of the country to stay with her grandparents.
07:44That way, I know she's safe, and I can be here 100 percent for the people.
07:49That's important. Fortunately, nothing happened to us, so all we want is to help as much as we can.
07:56Comprehensive diagnostic centers, or CDIs, are part of the Cuban Venezuelan Barrio Adentro mission.
08:03They were created to strengthen free medical care across the country, and, today, they have become a place of support
08:09in the aftermath of the tragedy.
08:13Every member of the staff, both Venezuelan and Cuban, has given us the helping hand we needed,
08:21that moral support as well, because these are not easy times for us.
08:27The care here has been wonderful.
08:32The doctors, the administrative staff, the people, even the cleaning staff have been incredibly supportive of us.
08:39That solidarity is the strength that has kept so many going after a moment that shook Venezuelan society as a
08:46home.
08:47Everyone and everything has come here. Even those who have nothing have brought at least a loaf of bread.
08:53Those who have the least have found a way to help, no matter how, and that is incredibly valuable.
08:58To have nothing and still find a way to help others, that is truly incredible.
09:02Jesus Romero, Jarlene Rosales, Belen de los Santos, for Chalester English, from Caracas, Venezuela.
09:14So far, more than 6,400 people were rescued, but it was a picture of a young lady, her name
09:23Fabiana Blanco, who captured her heart.
09:27It was a close-up of her around the rubble. I'm sure you remember her.
09:34We had a chance, Telesur, to have an exclusive interview with her, and she told Hernán Tovar, who was the
09:42reporter,
09:42what went through her head during those days. She's a testimony only deeply moving, but also reminds us of the
09:51values of the resilience in these times.
09:54Let's go to see what she told us. Telesur, it's an exclusive interview.
10:00To be honest, it felt really strange, and I kept saying it was a dream because I didn't know. I
10:08thought it wasn't real.
10:10Well, let me tell you, I was alone in my apartment, on the first floor, and I was in my
10:17mom's room.
10:18I went out to the kitchen to get some water. A very strong earthquake struck me while I was in
10:23the kitchen, but it was strong, in the sense that you couldn't stand up, you'd fall over, you'd be knocked
10:30down.
10:31And I looked all around, and I kept saying, but what's going on? Why is it shaking?
10:37I mean, I didn't know why. It was my first time experiencing an earthquake. I didn't know what it was
10:44like.
10:46I could see everything flickering, everything falling apart. The first crack I saw was in the wall separating my apartment
10:54from the one next door.
10:55It was cracking. It was breaking. And I could see through that wall. I mean, I could see into the
11:04other apartment.
11:06That's when I got scared, and I said, I mean, I'm kind of coming to my senses again. But honestly,
11:14thanks to me, nothing happened to me.
11:17But a lot of debris started falling on me. A lot. A lot of debris. Nothing actually fell on me.
11:23But I was completely trapped among the rubble, and I ended up in a very difficult and uncomfortable position to
11:30maneuver in such a small space.
11:33My phone ran out of battery, unfortunately. I was left in pitch darkness, and I was shocked. I was still
11:40in shock.
11:41And then I wondered what to do. I mean, what am I going to do? Who's going to come find
11:46me? Who's going to come rescue me?
11:49Because I couldn't hear anyone, not even screams, not even the rescuers, nothing.
11:54Then in the distance, I started to hear my name, my name, my name, my name, until the voice came
12:01closer.
12:02And someone asked, is anyone alive here? And I shouted, yes!
12:07It was my number one angel, my hero, the one who heard me, told the rescuers that I was there,
12:13alive, that there were other people there who were alive too.
12:17My mom is a supreme goddess who was already about to climb in and move the rubble to get me
12:25out.
12:28This might sound strange too, but normally a child is desperate, wants to get out, and is very upset.
12:41But I always stayed calm and quiet, which was basically what God gave me, the strength he sent through his
12:51angels practically.
12:53And I was amazed at how my mom moved heaven and earth to get them to come in and get
12:59me out of there.
13:03What amazing story we wish that girl the best, the best of luck.
13:08Let's do a short break, we come back, we are going to talk about Stadio Azteca,
13:12what's going to happen with the game Mexico and England, and what's happened with Brazil and Norway.
13:17I have a big news to tell you when we come back.
13:20But let's go to the break with our segment, Goals for Venezuelans.
13:30ALEXANDER FRANZ specific film
13:42Annotamos por Venezuela sede de los terremotos del 85 86 para nosotros y sabemos del sufrimiento y mucha solidaridad, mucha
13:51fuerza.
13:56They are our brothers, in the past they have helped us a lot and it's time to help them.
14:16We heard about the terrible tragedies in Venezuela and yeah, we're thinking about the people and we know that it's
14:23a tough time and our hearts are with the people of Venezuela.
14:29The heart for the people in Venezuela.
14:43Welcome from the field. This is Carlos Montero. As you can see, it's raining here in Mexico City, Stadio Azteca.
14:52Can you see that yellow signs? Yellow signs. They said under the circumstances, there is lightning, heavy thunderstorm.
15:01We are going to use the protocol for the circumstances.
15:04That means that the game, which you start at six o'clock local time in an hour and a half,
15:11more or less, is going to be delayed.
15:14The same thing happened last time Mexico played here against Ecuador. In that occasion, the match was delayed one hour.
15:22Let's see what's happened today, but the rain is pretty bad.
15:25But let's talk about one of the biggest news of this World Cup.
15:30Brazil, one of the favorites, is out of the World Cup. They play early today. They play in New Jersey
15:38against Norway.
15:40And it was a close game until Haaland said no more Haaland score. Two goals. Fantastic game for the best
15:52player of Norway.
15:54In the second half, Ancelotti said, okay, let's bring Neymar. We can change that if Neymar can do something.
16:03Neymar did. He scored a goal at the 93 minutes, but it was too late. Norway, two. Brazil, one.
16:14No West keep going in this World Cup. Brazil is going home and Ancelotti, the first time that the Brazilian
16:23national team hired a foreign coach.
16:26I'm sure it's going to be a lot of criticism of that situation. But let's see what's going to happen
16:35with the next match of the day.
16:37Like I said, Mexico is going to play against England. A lot of expectations here in Mexico City. There are
16:43people all over celebrating.
16:46I see also some English fans. It was a controversy because the national team spent the night in a hotel
16:53close to here.
16:54And the fans make a lot of noise, the Brazilian fans. But I guess that's part of this game. Let's
17:04see what time is going to start.
17:05There is a lot of expectation. Mexican people say this time we are going to pass the fifth game. So
17:13far Mexico could never do that.
17:14We hope the local team because they've been extremely nice with us. The best of luck. We are going to
17:20be there in that match. We are going to give you all the information on our Twitter account.
17:27You can follow the minute by minute of that match. Like I told you before, a lot of people on
17:33the street, even the rain still pretty, pretty hard.
17:38Let's talk. We are going to be with Charlie later in this show. Yesterday, Morocco keep alive in this World
17:46Cup. They sent home one of the co-hosts Canada 3-0 and advanced to the quarterfinal.
17:55Aseddin Onaghi was the star of that match. Kylian Mbappé scored against France Bridge World Cup quarterfinal in an extraordinary
18:05game with Paraguay.
18:07Paraguay played fantastic, tough game. Paraguay waited until the last-minute fight until the end. And it was a penalty,
18:16a very controversial penalty that Mbappé scored 1-0.
18:23Paraguay is going home. But knowing that they played a fantastic World Cup and they have to be very, very
18:31proud for what they did.
18:32France now is going to play Morocco at the beginning of next week. That's going to be a great match
18:41to see.
18:41Now a controversy today. You remember the USA star, Follarin Bologan. He got a red card. With that red card,
18:49he couldn't play the next match for the round of 16 against Belgium.
18:54Today, FIFA said, OK, we revert. He's not having that red card. He's going to be able to play against
19:05Belgium. He's one of the best. I think he's the best player of the USA.
19:09But later, we knew that Donald Trump talked to Gianni Infantino about to do something. They had a group of
19:17lawyers to revert that situation. And FIFA said, yes.
19:21Now, the main player of the USA team is going to be able to play against Belgium. Trump, congratulate Gianni
19:31Infantino, congratulate FIFA in his social media account.
19:35That's really, they should be ashamed. But that's what's going on in this World Cup. It's not the first controversy
19:41with the FIFA, but this, I think they went too, too far.
19:45OK, now Charlie's ready. Charlie's outside of the Aztec Stadium. Let's see what he has to say about the match
19:53that's going to happen in an hour and a half.
19:56But like I said before, it's going to be delayed. Charlie, go ahead. How's the feeling over there?
20:03Hey, Carlos. How are you? Right behind me is Estadio Azteca, where Mexico has played four of their last five
20:11games.
20:12And in those five games, Mexico hasn't received a single goal. And if they beat England tonight, they will return
20:21to the corner finals for the first time since 1986,
20:26which was also the last time Mexico hosted the World Cup. Talking about 1986, England will try to erase a
20:35painful memory where they lost to Argentina's Diego Maradona, who scored the Mano de Dios and also the goal of
20:44the century.
20:44No one knows what's going to happen tonight. Why have the chance to talk to some Mexican and some English
20:50fans to think, to ask them what they think will happen tonight.
20:54This is what they had to say.
20:573-0. Mexico will win.
21:01Mexico 3-0.
21:033-0.
21:033-0 for Mexico.
21:05You think England has a chance, not even for one goal? You're not scared of Harry Kane?
21:09No, no. In here, we're unbeatable. The altitude is insane here. The atmosphere is insane. We're unbeatable.
21:15Mexico, of course.
21:16How much?
21:172-0.
21:182-0?
21:19Yeah.
21:202-1.
21:20England 2, Mexico 1.
21:23You're not scared of the altitude like they're talking about so much in the media?
21:25I think it's a huge factor. But I think, at the end, Harry Kane will prevail and come through for
21:31us.
21:32England 1-0.
21:33England 1-0.
21:35You guys aren't worried about Quinones or Jimenez?
21:37They're good, but they're not as good as King Kane.
21:40King Kane's bad.
21:40He's the man.
21:42Okay. Are you guys worried about the altitude? They've been talking about that a lot in the media.
21:45We've been here for three days. It feels like England already.
21:48That's great. That's great.
21:49Last one. The last time England played here was against Argentina. Will that have any effect on tonight's game?
21:53No, no, no. It's past. It's in the history.
21:57England, Harry Kane 2-0. Thank you and good night.
22:01Well, that you have it, Carlos. I don't know what will happen tonight.
22:04Both teams have strong arguments. Mexico haven't received any goals, but England have a very strong team.
22:11It will come down to the matchup between Quinones and Jimenez versus Harry Kane and Bellingham.
22:20I don't know what will happen, but I do want Mexico to keep moving forward and the tournament.
22:26Back to you, Carlos.
22:30And if possible, Charlie here in Mexico say, if yes, if we can, I think they can.
22:36And Brazil also have a very strong team and now is out of the World Cup.
22:4240 years ago, Charlie was saying that was the last time that England played at the Azteca Stadium.
22:50And we know the story. It didn't do too good. Argentina beat them.
22:54But let's talk about the story, about the stadium and about the England national team. Nacho Lemus has this story.
23:05To some, Azteca Stadium is sacred.
23:08God is with us Mexicans right now. I hope God gives us a hand and Maradona too. I hope he
23:13lends us a hand.
23:15Even if Mexico wins with a handball, the important thing is getting through.
23:19But to others, it's haunted.
23:22A lot of big events have happened in that stadium, including one that should have been a foul.
23:27Yeah, that mano de Dios.
23:3040 years after bowing to Maradona, England returns to Azteca Stadium to face Mexico in the World Cup round of
23:3716.
23:38Mexico will win 2-1. I hope Maradona helps us. I hope he's on our side.
23:44Luciano lives in Santa Ursula, the neighborhood surrounding Azteca Stadium. He saw both Pele and Maradona play there.
23:51Well, I already lived through the last two World Cups here, and this is my third.
23:55I think maybe the pressure from the crowd and everything else will make England a little afraid.
24:00Mexico City's altitude, 2,700 meters above sea level, is another concern for England.
24:06Maybe one of the most beautiful fixtures, most exciting fixtures that you can have.
24:11We play against Mexico in the Azteca, and there will be a lot, a lot, a lot of obstacles waiting
24:16for us, not to mention, like, the altitude.
24:19At Azteca Stadium, Mexico has won nearly 85 percent of its official matches. It has lost only twice.
24:27Azteca Stadium is really going to weigh on them. It will be just like in 86 when Argentina knocked them
24:32out and went on to become champions.
24:34This time we'll knock them out and we'll be the champions.
24:37Mexico and England have faced each other nine times in official matches and friendlies. Historically, England has the edge.
24:46England is a very strong team, but if we can turn things around, even better. I'd really love for us
24:50to beat the English.
24:53England comes into the match after beating DR Congo with a brilliant performance from Harry Kane, while host nation Mexico
25:00arrives in top form following a convincing victory over Ecuador.
25:04Two teams at their best, and a stadium that can also play a part.
25:08Ignacio Lemus and Julian Assif for Telesur.
25:13One of the beautiful stories of this World Cup is Cape Verde. They are home now after losing against Argentina
25:23in a fantastic game.
25:25Of course, when they got home, they were received like heroes. We have a chance to talk to Pocinia, the
25:31goalkeeper, and also the coach.
25:38Thank you very much.
25:45A historical match for Cape Verde, Cape Verde, here, the day of Cape Verde's independence, when they turned, they have
25:5621 years for its independence against Portugal,
26:01but now for the day to receive the Blue Sharks, the Cape Verde selection national team, which has, despite its
26:12stellar performance in the World Cup,
26:15they lost, but they won the hearts of not only Cape Verde's people, but also of the world because of
26:25the performance of a team.
26:26So we have an exclusive interview with Vocinia, who, after leaving the plane, we are the first TV crew who
26:37has interviewed Vocinia, the greatest among the Cape Verde national team.
26:44So I wanted to talk to him about the Blue Sharks performance in the World Cup, and this is his
26:51best.
26:52A lot of strength for Venezuela.
26:54We know they're going through a very difficult time, but wait for you to have the strength and get to
26:59overcome this difficult moment.
27:02We're also going to talk about with BuVista, the national team's coach.
27:07And BuVista, after leaving the plane, after arriving to his country, he gave us his evaluation of the historical performance
27:17of Cape Verde in the World Cup.
27:22How do you feel after landing in your country, Cape Verde, stepping here on the ground of your land?
27:27It's a good feeling. Nothing that we did. The people here, they're waiting for us. And we did a great
27:36job. We're satisfied.
27:39And now, it's time to rest. BuVista, or would you continue training? We're going to rest for now, and then
27:47we'll see.
27:49It's important to highlight that they were received by a crowd who accompanied the national team through several streets of
27:57the country.
27:58They paraded through several neighborhoods of through the Cape Verde capital, and they're going and they dance and naked, which
28:10is a typical dance in this country.
28:13And now the players were received by the president of the Republic here in the presidential palace from which we're
28:21communicating right now.
28:22So, it's historical for Cape Verde, a day that will be marked in history, not only the day of independence,
28:31but also the day when the Blue Sharks came home.
28:38Andre Vieira, thank you very much. This is all for this half an hour. We are following the weather. In
28:45a few hours, you play Mexico against England.
28:48Let's see if it's going to be on town. I don't think so. See you tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening.
28:53And remember, we stand with Venezuela. Bye-bye.
