It's complicated. The Duffer Brothers reveal that while Nancy and Jonathan clearly still love each other, they felt it was crucial for both characters to grow and move on from their intense, trauma-bonded past.

00:00Anytime we talked about her being with Jonathan at the end or with Steve felt wrong, it felt like she
00:09needs to go on her own.
00:10And I think what's complicated about that, though, and so did Jonathan, but I think what is complicated is that
00:17they've been through so much together.
00:19And I thought that was a very a topic. Yes, their experience is very unique in that they've got a
00:25trauma bond due to fighting monsters and her losing her best friend to a Demogorgon.
00:32So it's very specific. But at the same time, I do think it's it's a relatable experience in that so
00:36many of us will go through life and we go through these experiences with someone else.
00:41And you go, how can how can someone else ever understand what we've been through?
00:46But that doesn't necessarily mean that it's meant to be for the rest of your life and people are able
00:53to move on.
00:53And for Nancy to grow, she had to let this part of her this part of herself go, even though
00:58she still clearly and obviously loves Jonathan and he still loves her.
