"Yellow Fever" is the only remaining studio album by the Turku band Yellow from 1975. It was released by the record company Finnlevy as an LP SFLP 9561 and as a music cassette FDE 210.They existed from 1967 under the name Only Five,
and from 1969 to 1977 under the name Yellow. The guitarist and main lyricist of the band was the
British-born Melvin McRae. Singer Hannu Takala sings in both English and Finnish (the title of the song makes it clear in which language he sings).

The album was recorded by Antti Joki at Finnlevy Studios and the nominal producer was Vexi Salmi. The studio time was only four days. The cover was designed by Toivo Niiranen. The cross in the cover photo shows the names of the band members: Melvin, Hanski, Helge, Romi.

Yellow was previously unknown to me only by name. I don't remember hearing a single song before last winter. A friend living in the house next door raved about the album until he decided to get a reissue from the record store Äxä. It was then shelved all last winter and spring if we happened to be at the same evening gatherings.

As an old vinyl fan, I knew that the Yellow Fever LP was in high demand. is in high demand among collectors. It fetches handsome sums of money, just like another rarity from the 70s, the Elonkorjuu LP. http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elonkorjuu

Yellow's music is not easy to define. It is partly prog. A Game For Two is pure Beatles. Joo Jussi and Rokki-Riitta are like their contemporaries from Alwari Tuohitorve's repertoire. Compared to the Hurricanes, the band was a pure virtuoso.

When listening to Yellow Fever, it doesn't bother you at all that some of the songs are in Finnish and some in English. Somehow they blend together well. The recording year 1975 shines through in both the soundscape and the compositions.

There is not much information about Yellow, at least not online. Old beards, like the guy next door, do remember the band with great enthusiasm, but there is no printed word about the orchestra.
