01:06Thank you for being with us.
01:08This is From the Field.
01:09I'm Carlo Montero, and we're going to talk later about the World Cup.
01:16Today is the last matches of the round of 32.
01:20Tomorrow starts the round of 16.
01:22But talking about the World Cup, the acting president, Delce Rodriguez, yesterday in a press conference, she mentioned, and she
01:31wanted to thank all the solidarity, gratitude from people all over the world, especially during the World Cup.
01:42She said all those gestures, they were really moving.
01:47Let's go with the numbers.
01:50The last number we got from the tragedy that's affecting Venezuela.
01:542,645 people dead, 12,666 injured, building damage, 885, building collapse, 189, family assisted, 86,117, people left home,
02:1410,050, personal deployed, 29,567.
02:20And that's the most recent information we have about the situation is living right now in Venezuela.
02:28Let's go with Luis Alberto Matos.
02:30Luis Alberto, he's in La Guaira.
02:33Luis Alberto, what's the situation right now?
02:40Good afternoon, Carlos, and good afternoon to our audience tuning in from the field, a special program during this World
02:46Cup that has taken a turn, of course, due to the situation here in Venezuela.
02:50Where I'm currently, right now, here in La Guaira, is the most affected state due to the back-to-back
02:55Irfax, the 7.2 and 7.5 Irfax that struck Venezuela on June 24.
03:00There are over 100 people that have completely collapsed, and there are hundreds of people that have been impacted by
03:05the Irfax.
03:06Many have been declaring their red, which means that the people cannot return.
03:10So there are over 10,000 people that are currently displaced.
03:13They are not in their homes.
03:14They are currently in temporary camps where the authorities and solidarity groups and volunteers that have come from around the
03:20country and also from abroad are currently providing support to these people that are victims of this natural disaster.
03:27But also, and a bit to tie the topic with sports, right to my right, there's a karting arena.
03:34This karting racing track has been turned into one of the many sports arenas around La Guaira that have become
03:43the home of those solidarity rescue teams that have come from abroad.
03:47That is where they are using them as a place to stay, to rest and to be there while their
03:54goal here to work and support the Bolivarian Civil Guard and protection agencies in their task of saving life,
04:03which is the main task that is currently on the front.
04:07The main task right now here in La Guaira and the other affected area is to save as many lives
04:12as possible.
04:13Over 6,000 people have been saved so far in the different rescue operations.
04:17Unfortunately, we are already on the ninth day since the earthquake struck, so the chances of finding survivors is slimmer
04:26and slimmer as time moves forward.
04:29But there are still some places that the authorities have hoped and believed that they could still live.
04:34That's why rescue operations have no stop.
04:35While at the same time, a comprehensive attention program has been set for all the people that are victim,
04:41as well as an initial fund of $200 million has been established for the reconstruction of the houses and buildings
04:49for all the people that lost their homes during the earthquake.
04:52So that's the situation right now.
04:55Luis Alberto, do you have any information about Hernan Flores, that security guard who was rescued from the building collapsed
05:06eight days after the earthquake?
05:09Do you think the acting president, Elsie Rodriguez, went to visit him?
05:15Hernan Flores is a success story.
05:18Hernan Flores is one of the many miracles among the over 6,000 miracles that have taken place in the
05:22past week here.
05:24Not only in La Guayla, but in places that were impacted by the earthquake that people were also rescued from
05:27the roblo.
05:28But the main focus is in La Guayla because, as I was telling you, it's the most affected.
05:32So Hernan Flores is one of those many success stories of a very powerful moment for emotional moment for the
05:41people that were involved.
05:42You can see it in the images.
05:43It was not only one team, it was a multidisciplinary team from different countries that were taking part together, working
05:50together.
05:50This is something that has been an expression of what we have seen so far here in La Guayla and
05:55the other parts of Venezuela.
05:56The expression of unity of people from different backgrounds coming together with the same task to save as many lives
06:02as possible.
06:03Hernan Flores, as you were saying, was rescued yesterday after an operation that took more than 48 hours to reach
06:08where he was stuck.
06:09And he was successfully rescued alive.
06:11He was reunited with his wife once more.
06:14They were able to embrace.
06:15He's currently receiving the necessary attention, the adequate attention for a case like his.
06:22Actually, the acting president of Venezuela, DeSotriguez, letter in the night yesterday published on her social media
06:28that she had gone and visited Ednan Hill in the clinic where he's being taken care of.
06:35So, that's one of the over 6,000 success stories and miracles that have taken place here in La Guayla.
06:44Luis Alberto, also people are talking that the ones who are doing an excellent job are the dogs they are
06:51using to rescue people.
06:53Did you have a chance to see any of them?
06:54What you can tell us about those heroes with four legs?
07:01Carlos, not for nothing, dogs are called men's best friends.
07:06And this is just one other way to prove the beautiful bond that has united humanity and dogs throughout hundreds
07:15of years.
07:16Throughout hundreds and hundreds of years.
07:18And dogs have been, of course, are at the forefront because they say they have skills that as humans lack.
07:26For example, their sense of smell, they are able to detect and find people under the rubble.
07:30So, the action of the canine units, not only from Venezuela, but also from all the others that came from
07:36abroad,
07:36have been key in being able to find very quickly, as soon as possible in the early hours,
07:42where there were survivors so that the rescue task could proceed in accordance to different protocols that these rescue operations
07:48have.
07:48One of the most known cases is a dog called Tsunami that, by himself, he was able to lead to
07:58a rescue of a dozen people.
07:59So, that's one of the most, let's say, most spoken about cases in the actions of the canines here in
08:06Venezuela, the case of Tsunami.
08:09But, like Tsunami, there are many survivors that have participated and also of different breeds that have participated.
08:15And they are also part of the hero teams that have been able to save over 6,000 lives.
08:22Luis Alberto, thank you very much.
08:24Luis Alberto Matos, live from Hawaii.
08:28And Luis Alberto was talking about the window.
08:30You have to find people alive.
08:32The window usually is from 24 to 72 hours.
08:37But, especially if a person is with water and has access to food,
08:43it's under one of those things that collapse, it can survive more days.
08:48That's the reason why I'm still hoping to find more people over there.
08:53But, let's go to Emily Caro.
08:56She's in La Guayra.
08:57She's also over there in La Guayra.
09:00And she has information about those rescue efforts that people are doing over there.
09:09More than a week after the earthquakes, miracles continue to happen in Venezuela.
09:15Against all odds, survivors have surpassed the window, generally considered the critical threshold for survival.
09:23We give thanks and glory to God because God is good.
09:26And today we're able to tell the story of what we lived through.
09:30It wasn't easy, but may God continue to bless the Venezuelan people, and we keep moving forward.
09:38The person we rescued yesterday, I understand, showed signs of life.
09:43They brought in the team responsible for removing the rubble to search for survivors.
09:48And they managed to pull her out.
09:59Children, the elderly, and adults have emerged from the rubble to be welcomed with applause by those who brought them
10:05back to life, the rescue workers.
10:16They have come from more than 60 countries to join Venezuelan rescuers who have been racing against time and the
10:21debris.
10:26This is a team effort because even the lady who brought us coffee was part of the rescue.
10:31There wasn't just one team of specialists or one particular group that carried out this rescue.
10:37It was everyone.
10:40Everyone here took part, even the lady who brought us a cake.
10:45Among the challenges rescuers have faced is the weather.
10:49Nearly two hours of rain made the work even more difficult.
10:51But they never stopped.
10:58Along the highway to La Guayra, rescue teams can be seen constantly traveling from one side to another.
11:03Language has been one of the barriers, but everyone understands a universal language, solidarity.
11:11We've helped a great deal by explaining all the progress that had been made before the foreign teams arrived.
11:18In this case, we assisted a team from the United States, helping identify several locations in the Caribbean area and
11:24in Katia Lamar.
11:29Venezuela has brought together more countries than the World Cup being held as the nation endures this difficult chapter in
11:35its history.
11:38The hands of the rescue workers grow tired, but they do not stop.
11:43The lives of those still struggling to emerge from the rubble are to drive them forward, and every minute counts.
11:50La Guayra Venezuela para Telesur, Emilio Caro.
11:56Really amazing and absolutely touch your heart, not of everybody's people, also the athletics, who are playing here in the
12:04World Cup.
12:05Ronaldo, who yesterday Portugal went to the next round, to the round of Christine.
12:11He saw one of those stories, that little boy, a victim of those earthquakes.
12:17And look what Cristiano Ronaldo tell him and what he is going to do.
12:25Hello Andres, how are you? I'm doing this video to send you a hug, I know that you are a
12:29super fan.
12:31When you get good, I want to invite you to see my game and enjoy it, okay?
12:37I'd love to meet you. A hug, friend.
12:42I'd love to meet you. A hug, friend.
12:50Can you imagine how important for Andres, who is in the hospital, received that message from Ronaldo and hopefully he's
12:58going to have a chance to see him play one day.
13:01Shakira is another one of the superstars who is thinking about Venezuela.
13:07Look what he's offering to the victims of the two earthquakes.
13:12Hi, everyone. Today, millions of children are growing up without the education and opportunities they deserve.
13:17That's why I'm so proud to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
13:23I'm also pleased to share that the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund will dedicate 500,000 to support organizations in
13:31Venezuela
13:32Venezuela that are helping children, whose education has been disrupted by this terrible tragedy.
13:37We'll invite trusted local organizations already leading the relief effort to apply for funding to help children get back into
13:46the classroom,
13:47support teachers, and restore access to learning.
13:51Prime Minister Carney of Canada has already stepped forward to support this campaign.
13:56I hope that other leaders will soon join him, including Prime Minister Montenegro of Portugal, President Macron of France, and
14:04Chancellor Mertz of Germany.
14:06If you believe every child deserves the chance to dream, please join us.
14:12Take action today by following this link.
14:18Thank you. Thank you very much, Akira.
14:20Everything counts.
14:21Little things you can send them would be really appreciated.
14:24We heard that rescue worker who said the lady who gave us a cake made all day, only a cake.
14:31But let's do take a break.
14:33Argentina is playing right now.
14:35We are going to tell you what's going on in the World Cup.
14:37But before, let's go with a break with more sounds of people who want to send all the energy to
14:45the Venezuelan people.
14:47Yeah, we're praying for all Venezuelan people, the children, the women, everybody in the country.
14:54We know the situation going on right now.
14:56A lot of people are missing.
14:58Also, a lot of people are dying.
15:02We send all the prayers to the Venezuelan family, you know, and we know God will be with you.
15:08I'd hope I'd speak for all English people, and we're all from Yorkshire, a proud English county,
15:13that our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the people of Venezuela at this very sad time.
15:18We pray for all your families and hope there's some good news for you at the end of it.
15:24We heard, guys, what happened to you.
15:27We feel so sorry what's happened to Venezuela, and I, God bless you guys, and I hope everything is going
15:34to be all right,
15:34and you find your siblings, mother's father, because our hearts is to you guys.
15:41Okay, let's talk about the World Cup.
15:44Argentina is playing right now against Cape Verde, who has a fantastic tournament so far.
15:5120 minutes, 0-0.
15:54I don't know if you're going to change.
15:55There is a free kick soon for Messi.
15:58I'll let you know if there is any change.
16:00Before that match, it was something fantastic.
16:04Egypt defeated Australia.
16:06It was a very close match on penalty kick.
16:08And for the first time in history, he's going to play on a round of 16.
16:13You can imagine, Mo Salah didn't have the best play.
16:16He wasn't feeling great.
16:17He scored a penalty.
16:18And, of course, he's the leader of the team and took them to the second round.
16:24The players celebrate like crazy.
16:27The manager, Hassan, was holding a giant ancient flag.
16:33People were like crazy.
16:35Australia was the only remaining team from the Asian Football Confederation, and they're going now home.
16:42Let's talk about tonight.
16:44Argentina, Cape Verde is still 0-0.
16:47But let's talk about tonight.
16:49Later tonight, he's going to play Colombia against Ghana.
16:52It's going to be a fantastic game.
16:55Africa against Latin America.
16:57Let's talk about yesterday.
16:59Spain, Spain is going to the second round.
17:04The captain, Mikelo Charzabal, played a fantastic game.
17:10Scored two of the three goals.
17:13And it's going to make a fantastic round of 16.
17:18They are playing Portugal.
17:20They are playing on Arlington, Texas.
17:23And it's one of the matches you must see.
17:26Portugal eliminate Croatia.
17:30Yeah, that was another amazing game.
17:32It was a dramatic late bar call.
17:36Gonzalo Galvez hit the stoppage.
17:38Time winner, Anjosko Warbadio.
17:41An equalizer was really controversial because it was disallowed for the referee.
17:48The bar set.
17:49The ball touched one of the Croatian plays so that it was outside.
17:55We are going to talk about this controversial bar decision that makes people crazy.
18:00Cristiano Ronaldo keeping the World Cup.
18:04Luka Modric, another of the legends.
18:0640-year-old from the Christian team with a fantastic career.
18:10He's going home.
18:11And he was really upset about the situation with the bar.
18:16The last match last night, a goal from Willembo and then Nguyen.
18:23So Switzerland advance to the round of 16 with a win of 2-0 victory over Archeri.
18:31Archeri is another of the African team that's going home.
18:36And let's talk about this situation that was really crazy.
18:40I don't know if you were watching the game.
18:42It was almost over.
18:44Croatia scored a goal.
18:46The referee said, wait a second.
18:49She went to see it on TV.
18:51And you know the balls right now, they have a microchip.
18:55And the ball, based on what the referee said, touched a Croatian player.
19:00What it makes of side situations so that the goal was not validated.
19:05People went absolutely crazy.
19:07But it's not the first time that we have problems with the bar's decision.
19:13Let's see the story.
19:15The bar was introduced to make football fairer.
19:18Instead, at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it once again become one of the tournament's biggest controversies.
19:25The defining moment came in Croatia versus Portugal,
19:28when Croatia's stoppage time equalizer was ruled out after a lengthy bar review using FIFA's connected ball technology.
19:34Officials determined there had been an offside offense from the slightest touch of the ball,
19:39eliminating Croatia and sending Portugal through.
19:42Many questioned whether technology had become too precise for football spirit.
19:45But the debate goes beyond a single match.
19:48In Belgium versus Senegal, a late bar review awarded Belgium a decisive penalty in extra time,
19:54ending Senegal's World Cup.
19:56Earlier in the tournament, Ghana was denied a penalty after Bar chose not to intervene,
20:00while Colombia and Iran also saw crucial goals ruled out through marginal offside decisions.
20:05Collectively, the decisions have fueled a broader conversation.
20:09There is growing criticism that the biggest bar controversies seem to disproportionately affect teams
20:14outside European football's traditional power structure.
20:17For many fans, especially across Africa,
20:20these incidents fit a familiar pattern of feeling disadvantaged at the sport's biggest stage.
20:27What do you think, Charlie, about all this?
20:30What do you think, Charlie, about the matches that are playing right now?
20:36Hey, Carlos.
20:38We're almost at the end of the round of 32.
20:41But first, we need to talk about the game that's happening right now
20:46between Argentina and Cabo Verde.
20:48They are playing in Miami.
20:50It's a very great game.
20:52Argentina has Lionel Messi, the number one goal scorer of the World Cup at the moment.
20:58But it won't be easy, even though he is playing in his home stadium in Miami.
21:04He will have to go against the mighty Rocinha, the Cabo Verde goalkeeper,
21:10who helped his team tie against Spain and against year-wide.
21:15But later tonight, we have the very last game of the round of 32 between Colombia and Ghana.
21:24It's the first time that these two teams have played against each other in the World Cup.
21:29Colombia will be trying to qualify for the round of 16 for the fourth time in their history,
21:35while Ghana will try to qualify for the third time in their history.
21:40But I have some good news for Ghana, and I have some bad news for Colombia.
21:46The only time Colombia played against an African team and the knockout stage was in 1990 against Cameroon.
21:54And unfortunately for the Colombians, they lost two to one.
21:59They will try to change that statistic today against Ghana.
22:02Ghana will try to qualify for the third time ever.
22:05But before we see those games, what do you think about hearing what fans had to say and their predictions?
22:13Argentina, 3-0, Cabo Verde.
22:22Colombia, 2-0.
22:25Argentina, they're very strong right now.
22:28Messi, you know, carrying them, hopefully to win for their team, for Argentina.
22:34And I also think Colombia is going to win it tonight.
22:36I think they're going to do good.
22:39They've been playing okay recently.
22:42Yeah, I think 1-0 Colombia and, like, 2-0 Argentina.
22:46Messi's scored both, I think.
22:48Yeah.
22:49Argentina, 3-1.
22:51They'll score one goal.
22:53But Messi's going to score.
22:55Lettaudo's going to have a shot on target.
22:57And I think McAllister's going to surprise us with something.
23:01Okay, and Colombia, Ghana?
23:03Good game.
23:04I think tie, overtime, and then maybe penalties.
23:08Okay, perfect.
23:09I think it's going to be 2-1 by Argentina, winning Argentina.
23:13And Colombia, Ghana?
23:16I think it's going to be 2-0, Colombia, winning.
23:21We'll be back tomorrow with more information.
23:24Back to you, Carlos.
23:28Thank you, Charlie.
23:30Charlie's wearing very proud.
23:32The color of Argentina.
23:33Argentina is still playing 0-0.
23:36And everybody in Argentina are watching this game.
23:39Let's go to Buenos Aires.
23:40Ian Nessie is with us.
23:42Ian, what's the atmosphere there?
23:44What are people saying?
23:52I would like to start by embracing the Venezuelan people and all of you from Buenos Aires.
23:59As you mentioned, yes, the Argentina as a whole is following the match.
24:06If we win, we're going to go to the round of 16.
24:12And Que Verde is not a rival, but rather it's a sisterly group.
24:19There's a lot of empathy and goodwill between the Argentina selection and Que Verde.
24:29In Argentina, we have a lot of people from Cape Verde and at least 30,000 in our in Buenos
24:38Aires.
24:39So there are a lot of them around here and they stay here.
24:43So they have the expertise as sailors.
24:47They have been key in the growth of the naval sector in Argentina.
24:54So in Costa del Río, Costa del Mar, they are very important people and they have developed the merchant sector
25:03of our maritime efforts.
25:08So it is incredible.
25:11Well, it's clear that the Argentinians go in favor of Argentina, but on the other hand, it is a rival
25:18that we feel good.
25:20We feel nice because they are also very close to our hearts.
25:24So we don't know what is going to happen.
25:26The truth of the matter is that the Que Verde won the heart of the followers of Argentina.
25:34So let's see what is going to happen.
25:36The Argentinian people, of course, they want to be at the final of the World Cup,
25:42but we have a lot of admiration for the achievement of Que Verde.
25:49Thank you very much.
25:51I am Nessie from Buenos Aires.
25:54The truth is Que Verde is playing a fantastic game.
25:59They are not scared of Argentina.
26:01So far it's 0-0.
26:03I'm sure the fantastic game that Que Verde is playing is making people back at home like crazy.
26:10You are in communication with André Vieira.
26:13André Vieira is going to give us more information about how people in Que Verde are feeling about this game.
26:24It's a very hot game between Que Verde and Argentina.
26:35It's a new team in this championship, and they are fighting against the champions, the goalkeeper,
26:49one of the best in the world today from Que Verde, and Messi in the Argentinian team.
26:56So it is a team, and here we have the fans of this team from Africa.
27:07And today, Que Verde is coming here without pressures.
27:14They have one percentage of possibilities of winning, and 99% of faith.
27:23They have no pressure whatsoever.
27:26They are very happy to be able to confront Argentina.
27:32So Que Verdean people are extremely happy with the participation of the country,
27:37and they say that they're very happy already to be able to participate in this round of the 32.
27:48So everybody is discovering this wonderful country that is Que Verde.
27:55And this country so warm in welcoming the rest of the world.
28:03And this country, and we have many people, and they receive people from around the world.
28:13They're extremely happy to be able to be to participate, of course, hoping to have a positive result.
28:20So we continue covering Que Verde, the people, and in our case,
28:26is a victory for people to commemorate, to celebrate.
28:30But it's going to be a tough, a tough match, no doubt.
28:35Andre Vieira is really tough.
28:37Bosinha wanted to play with Messi.
28:39Messi has scored a goal, so that Bosinha got what he wanted.
