Reliance Industries Senior EVP Ashwani Kumar highlights the massive potential of Compressed Biogas (CBG) at the CII Conference 2026. From waste management to a major energy source, CBG is key to India’s hybrid energy strategy. Reducing foreign fuel dependence, creating jobs, and enabling sustainable aviation fuel — discover why CBG is the future of clean energy in India.

00:00This event is basically to understand the policies that are required to enhance the CVG market and adaptability.
00:07This is important because all the stakeholders come together and there is an opportunity for us to share what we
00:12have learned so far
00:13and what is holding back the industry. Obviously CVG has a lot of potential and it is now mandated to
00:19be as an energy provider
00:20not only just a waste management or nutrients provider but also a big energy provider.
00:26Sir, we are talking with CVG and what is the situation with crude oil in the country because the global
00:31prices are cooling off
00:33but the reflection is not seen on the realistic markets. How much time will it take for our OMCs to
00:37increase that quantity?
00:39Today the whole world is going through a split of fossil fuel versus new energy.
00:43People are electrifying countries like China. They are completely going electrical to hedge against this issue of the fossil fuel.
00:50India has taken a hybrid kind of approach. That's what we have seen so far.
00:54We are using ethanol. We are banking on CVG. The good thing with CVG is it generates a molecule which
01:00is methane.
01:01You can use methane and you can convert into a jet fuel, into a surface aviation fuel and all other
01:07kind of energy.
01:08It creates that opportunity and it can be used directly. It doesn't need infrastructure. We can inject in the pipe.
01:14This reduces our dependence on foreign fuel and creates opportunities for economic growth within the country and employment.
01:21Sir, in the first session there was a discussion that CVG should be distributed from the urban areas for the
01:26city distribution.
01:28The city distribution, yes, right.
01:30Will this be possible?
01:32This is a very common thing in United States and all across the world and Europe.
01:36The gas distribution line gets a tapping and it is injected in those lines.
01:41There is a very strict monitoring protocol through gas chromatograph and all that stuff to make sure we are putting
01:47the right kind of molecules in the pipeline.
01:49And I'm sure when this permissions and approvals are mandated, there is a very strong quality assurance around it.
01:56But technically, it's very much possible. A lot of other countries are doing it.

02:25Sir, are you talking about CVG and what is the situation with global oil industry?
02:30Because the global prices are coming off, but the reflection is not seen in the electric markets.
02:34How much life will it take for our co-exist to reach that content?
