00:00At first, you didn't want to make another Minions movie, but you are here again.
00:07What made you decide to accept?
00:10Well, it's a multifactor thing.
00:13It is true that after working on the three first Despicable Me and then a Minion movie
00:17and then voicing all these other movies in between, I was really tired.
00:22And I felt like I needed to force my producer into, you know, proposing me something else
00:28or doing something else on my own.
00:32But then he called me over a weekend and pitched me the idea of this Minion wanting to make
00:36a movie, a monster movie.
00:38Either that monster would appear or would be created by the Minions, but in the end,
00:42that monster would turn against the Minions, turn against humanity, and the Minions would
00:48have to, you know, correct their mistake.
00:53So that simple thing of having the Minion wanting to make a movie just like sparked all
01:01these ideas like, oh, time period.
01:04Can I, can I, because, you know, if I was going to go back to making this movie, I really
01:10wanted
01:10to do something that I hadn't done before and that wasn't going to be like, oh, one more
01:15Minion movie.
01:17And so I had all these ideas about like, oh, okay, well, let's drop the three, three characters
01:22of our own, of the first two previous movies, Kevin Stewart and Bob, let's invent like three
01:28new characters, James, Henry, and Ed, and tell their story.
01:32And maybe their story starts in, in Hollywood in the twenties where there's the cinema that's
01:38starting to become this industry.
01:39And, and let's see how they survive and let's see how, but, but I knew I had my time period
01:45and I knew that I could do a time piece that, that would look different, that would sound
01:50different also with the music with, you know, and so I had all the elements that I needed and
01:56that the producer agreed to, to be able to do something that felt fresh, at least to me.
