00:00Acteur Danny Glover is revealing today he's living with Alzheimer's disease.
00:04The long-time star who turns 80 this month says that he was diagnosed in 2023.
00:08Entertainment reporter George Pinocchio joins us now with details.
00:11George.
00:11All right, thank you.
00:12Danny Glover is someone we've been watching for more than 45 years,
00:16most notably in the Lethal Weapon franchise and for his starring role in The Color Purple.
00:21In an interview with People magazine, Glover said,
00:23there are moments that keep you remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff,
00:28and there are moments I'll never forget.
00:31Danny's daughter, Mendesa, says her dad is ready to share what it is like to face the disease
00:36because it's important to him to be of service.
00:39In the interview, Glover said to People,
00:42I don't feel like it's the end of my life.
00:44There's work to do.
00:46Glover does have a team of caregivers helping out.
00:48The actor says his mind is at its clearest in the morning.
00:52His daughter admits the diagnosis has been depressing for Danny,
00:55but he and his family continue working with his doctor to explore treatment options.
01:00Back in 2019, he told us about the importance of grace,
01:05something that feels substantial on this day.
01:08And that grace is what allows us, allows us to take another step, you know,
01:15to say that we're human, to say that we're not perfect,
01:18but the opportunity is there for us to not necessarily be based on it,
01:24but continue to transform and transform.
01:26As he deals with his diagnosis, Glover says,
01:29I still have my daughter, I have friends,
01:31I want to just say your life continues.
01:35Glover also spoke to the Today Show, noting his family has his back.
01:39While his movements and his speech have slowed,
01:42he is still active attending events and engaging with his community in San Francisco.
01:47Danny's longtime rep, Michelle Bega, told me this afternoon,
01:50as a consequence of the official announcement of Mr. Glover's condition,
01:55we have been overwhelmed with support and good wishes from his peers and the public,
02:01for which we are so deeply grateful.
