00:02Investment is set to reshape one of Northumberland's key cultural venues, with work due to begin
00:09on a major redevelopment of the Maltings in Bowick.
00:12The scheme will transform the building into a modern arts and leisure hub.
00:17The project carries a budget of £28.4 million and has been in development for more than

00:24It is supported through the Government-led Borderlands Regional Growth Deal, which aims
00:30to boost economic activity in border communities.
00:34Plans include moving theatre, cinema, cafe and dining spaces onto a single level to improve
00:41access and flow.
00:43New public areas, rehearsal rooms and a meeting space will also be created.
00:48Lower floors will be redesigned to house a large main cinema, alongside a smaller boutique
00:55screen.
00:56The proposals have been revised following public feedback, with heritage groups and residents
01:02previously raising concerns about the impact of views and the conservation area.
01:08Council leaders say changes have been made to address those concerns, while keeping the
01:13core vision intact.
01:16Early enabling work will begin ahead of full construction, with completion expected in 2028,
