00:00After nearly four months AWOL from Capitol Hill, New Jersey Congressman Tom Cain Jr. is finally
00:06explaining where he's been. The Republican lawmaker returned to the House floor Tuesday
00:10and revealed that he'd been hospitalized and treated for depression.
00:13I entered the hospital for some testing. I did not believe that this would result
00:18in a long-term stay. I was given the diagnosis of depression. And until you experience it yourself,
00:25it is difficult to fully understand how powerful this illness can be. The doctors recommended
00:32that I remain in the hospital to address my illness. They explained to me that this would
00:38be the fastest way to recovery. The 57-year-old later realized there is no set timeline for recovery.
00:44He told colleagues that he is grateful that he followed his doctor's advice and accepted help,
00:48saying he now returns to Congress, quote, healthier, stronger, and excited to return to the work that I
00:52love. Cain hadn't cast a vote since early March, missing more than 140 roll call votes as questions
00:58swirled about his absence.
