00:04Legally, we have reached the end of the road when it comes to President Trump's executive order attempting to narrow
00:11access to birthright citizenship.
00:13However, he can start over.
00:16If he chooses, he can issue a slightly different executive order, having already reviewed the court's decision.
00:26I do not expect him to do that.
00:28I think instead he will turn to using today's decision as a political weapon in which he shows his supporters
00:40that he carried through on the promise that he made on the campaign trail to narrow access to birthright citizenship
00:48and that he was stymied only by the justices of the Supreme Court.
00:54However, President Trump and senior members of his administration have repeatedly claimed that the United States is unique in granting
01:04citizenship at birth to children, regardless of the citizenship or immigration status of their parents.
01:10And they are absolutely wrong on that issue.
01:14Birthright citizenship is because of birth within a nation is actually quite common in the Americas.
01:21It is highly unusual in Europe, but in North America and Central America and South America, the United States is
01:29well within the norm.
