00:06It feels like the new DC Universe under James Gunn could eventually dive into one of the darkest
00:12and most layered storylines from DC Comics and that is the rise of Leviathan. A bunch of comic
00:19fans have talked for years about how underrated the Leviathan storyline really is because it
00:24mixes espionage, global conspiracies, emotional betrayals, and massive Batman mythology all
00:30together. Although the organization has not reached the same mainstream popularity as groups
00:36like the League of Assassins or the Court of Owls, Leviathan has the potential to become
00:41something huge in the DCU if it is adapted the right way. The interesting thing about Leviathan
00:47is that it is not just another random villain group trying to destroy the world. The organization
00:53actually has deep emotional connections to Batman's personal life especially because
00:58it was created by Talia al Ghul. That alone makes the story feel much more personal compared
01:04to a standard superhero conflict. Instead of simply being about heroes punching villains,
01:10the Leviathan storyline becomes about ideology, betrayal, family, and emotional scars that
01:16stretch across the entire Bat family. Leviathan first appeared in Batman the Return, created
01:22by Grant Morrison and David Finch. From the beginning, the group immediately stood out because of how
01:28secretive and dangerous it felt. The organization was eventually revealed to be connected to the
01:34League of Assassins, although it became something much darker after Talia split away from her father,
01:40Ra's al Ghul. That separation is one of the most fascinating parts of the story because it shows how
01:46Talia wanted to step out of her father's shadow and create her own legacy. Ra's al Ghul already believed
01:53the world was broken and needed extreme methods to be saved, but Talia took those ideas even further
01:58in certain ways. Leviathan became a worldwide organization with anti-capitalist beliefs and a
02:05mission to completely reshape society. Instead of quietly manipulating events from the shadows like the
02:10League of Assassins often did, Leviathan aimed to tear down entire systems and rebuild civilization under
02:16its own rule. The scary part is that Leviathan was not presented as a simple army. It functioned more
02:23like a giant intelligence network mixed with terrorism and psychological warfare. The organization kidnapped
02:30children, experimented with engineered metahumans, and recruited young soldiers from different countries.
02:37That kind of storyline could fit perfectly into the DCU because James Gunn has already shown interest
02:43in telling stories that feel weird, emotional, and politically layered at the same time. A live-action
02:49Leviathan adaptation could honestly feel very different from previous Batman movies because it would lean
02:55more into global espionage and paranoia instead of focusing only on Gotham streets. Batman would not just
03:02be fighting one villain hiding in the city, he would be dealing with a worldwide operation that touches
03:07governments, corporations, secret agencies, and powerful families across the globe. That scale could
03:14make the DCU feel much bigger and more connected. But the biggest reason why this storyline could work so
03:21well is because of Talia Al Ghul herself. If DC ever adapts Leviathan properly, Talia absolutely needs to play a
03:29major role because she is basically the emotional heart of the entire conflict. Without her, the story
03:35loses most of its depth. Talia has always been one of the most complicated characters in Batman mythology
03:42because she constantly exists between hero and villain. She loves Batman deeply, but at the same time
03:49she disagrees with his world view. That emotional contradiction is what makes her so compelling.
03:55She's not evil in a simple cartoonish way, although her methods often become terrifying. Instead,
04:01she believes the world is corrupt and broken, and because of that, she thinks extreme actions are
04:07necessary. The relationship between Batman and Talia has always been filled with tension because both
04:13characters genuinely care about each other, yet their lives constantly pull them in opposite directions.
04:18Batman dedicates himself fully to justice and refuses to compromise his moral code, while Talia believes
04:26power and control are sometimes necessary to save the world. That clash creates emotional drama that
04:32feels much deeper than a typical superhero romance. One of the biggest moments in their history is the birth
04:39of Damian Wayne, their son. Damian's existence changes everything because it permanently ties Batman to
04:45the Al Ghul family. Suddenly, Bruce Wayne is not just fighting villains connected to Raish and Talia,
04:52he is dealing with family members who see him as part of their legacy. That makes every conflict much more
04:58personal. If James Gunn's DCU eventually reaches a Leviathan storyline, Damian Wayne could become one of
05:05the emotional centerpieces of the entire project. Imagine a younger Damian caught between Batman's
05:12morality and Talia's ideology while Leviathan rises in the background. That kind of story could easily
05:18become one of the most emotionally layered superhero films DC has ever made. There is also huge
05:25potential for a solo Leviathan-focused project before a major Batman crossover even happens. Instead of
05:31immediately using the organization as a secondary villain group in another hero's movie, DC could
05:37build an entire political thriller around Leviathan itself. A bunch of fans already love grounded
05:45espionage stories mixed with comic book elements, so a Leviathan series or film could stand out in a
05:51massive way. James Gunn's DCU already seems interested in exploring different genres because projects
05:57like lanterns are reportedly leaning into mystery and detective storytelling. So, a Leviathan project
06:04could easily become the DCU's version of a dark spy thriller. It could follow secret agents, assassins,
06:11global conspiracies, and hidden organizations operating behind the scenes while heroes slowly uncover the truth.
06:18A solo Leviathan project could also properly establish Talia al Ghul before throwing her directly into a
06:26Batman movie. That would make her feel far more important because audiences would get to understand her
06:31motivations, intelligence, and emotional struggles beforehand. Instead of simply introducing her as another
06:38villain, the DCU could show why people follow her and why Leviathan becomes such a dangerous movement.
06:44There is also room to explore Ra's al Ghul in deeper ways through this storyline. Since Talia
06:51originally leaves the League of Assassins to create Leviathan, the story naturally creates tension between
06:57father and daughter. Ra's might see Talia as becoming too extreme while Talia believes her father failed
07:04because he never went far enough. That family conflict alone could carry an entire season of television
07:10or even multiple movies. Another reason Leviathan could work perfectly in the DCU is because audiences
07:17are becoming more interested in morally gray stories. People enjoy villains who feel layered and
07:23emotionally understandable instead of completely evil. Talia fits that style perfectly because her actions
07:30often come from heartbreak, ambition, and twisted love rather than pure cruelty. The comics even revealed that
07:37part of Leviathan's creation came from Talia's emotional pain over Batman rejecting her. Bruce Wayne's dedication to his
07:45mission always came before their relationship and Talia took that rejection personally. So,
07:51Leviathan became almost like a dark reflection of Batman Incorporated. Batman wanted to unite heroes to
07:57protect the world while Talia created Leviathan to reshape the world through fear and control. That mirror
08:04dynamic could look incredible in live action because it turns the conflict into something symbolic
08:10instead of just physical battles. And visually, Leviathan could become one of the coolest organizations
08:16DC has ever adapted. Imagine massive underground headquarters, elite assassins, advanced technology,
08:23and hidden agents spread across the globe. James Gunn's style could make the group feel both stylish and
08:30terrifying at the same time. Talia herself also deserves a major return to live action because
08:36she has not been explored deeply enough in movies yet. Marion Cotillard portrayed the character in The
08:42Dark Knight Rises, while Lexa Doig played her in Arrow. Both versions had interesting ideas, but there is
08:49still huge untapped potential for a comic-accurate Talia who fully embraces her role as strategist,
08:55fighter, manipulator, and emotional rival to Batman. The DCU could also finally show how intelligent Talia
09:02really is because in comics she is considered one of the world's greatest masterminds and spymasters.
09:08She's not simply powerful because of combat skills. Her real strength comes from planning,
09:14manipulation, and understanding people emotionally. That combination makes her dangerous in ways many
09:20Batman villains. There's even room for Leviathan to connect with other DCU heroes outside Gotham.
09:28Since the organization operates globally, characters like Nightwing, Green Arrow, or even the Suicide Squad
09:35could become involved. That would make the DCU feel interconnected naturally instead of forcing crossovers too quickly.
09:42The best part is that Leviathan still feels fresh compared to storylines audiences have already seen repeatedly.
09:50Most live-action Batman projects focus heavily on Joker, mob crime, or Gotham corruption. Although those
09:57stories are iconic, Leviathan offers something completely different because it expands Batman's world
10:03into international conspiracy and emotional family warfare. So if James Gunn really wants to bring deeper
10:09comic storylines into the DCU, Leviathan feels like one of the smartest choices available.
10:15The organization has action, emotional drama, political tension, psychological conflict,
10:22and massive world-building potential all packed into one story. And because Talia Al Ghul is so central
10:28to the entire mythology, adapting Leviathan correctly could finally give audiences the definitive live
10:35action version of her character. Combined with Damian Wayne, Ra's al Ghul, and Batman himself,
10:40the storyline could evolve into one of the DCU's most ambitious long-term arcs. Although nothing
10:47has been officially confirmed yet, the idea of a solo Leviathan project or a larger DCU adaptation
10:54sounds incredibly exciting. James Gunn has already shown he enjoys using lesser-known comic elements
11:00films and turning them into major fan favorites, so Leviathan could easily become one of the DCU's biggest
11:06surprises in the future. And that wraps up today's video. If you want to stay in the loop with all
