Fleur's and Jon's relationship continues to worry their parents so Irene takes Jon to Paris whilst Soames throws a party for his daughter, encouraging Michael Mont to pursue her, which she resents. At the party Fleur sees Annette kissing Profond but keeps it to herself. Dartie is killed in a road accident, having hinted to Soames about his wife's infidelity. At the funeral Fleur accuses Profond, who tells her that secrets run in the family and that Irene and Soames were once unhappily married, a fact she never knew. She tells Jon and they realize this is why their parents want to keep them apart. Irene asks her to tea but she had already been to see Jolyon out of curiosity without saying who she was and he is hostile to her, causing Jon to leave home. Fleur assures Soames that he is not with her but Soames is preoccupied with an anonymous letter, divulging his wife's affair with Profond.

00:00THE END
00:13Fleur's meant to stay for a weekend.
00:17It's been nearly five days. What can she be doing down there?
00:20Oh, riding, walking. The farm's very charming.
00:24Lynette insists on being in London.
00:27Bang, Ribbindry, seeing her friends.
00:30Well, I'd love to have you to dinner, dear boy,
00:32but I'm going out myself.
00:36Why, too?
00:37The theatre.
00:39I wouldn't have thought Darty's concentration span was wrong enough.
00:42What? What should I be concentrating on?
00:45I'm not going with Monty. I'm going with Prosper.
00:49Why don't you take Soames to your club, Monty?
00:53No, no, really. I'm meeting George.
00:56It's a revival of a restoration play, The Country Wife.
01:00Sounds a dead bore.
01:01It's salacious.
01:02Lynette wanted to go, but I didn't think it appropriate.
01:04Oh.
01:05Really? What's it about?
01:08Infidelity.
01:16Parfait.
01:17Parfait.
01:17Comme toujours.
01:25Are you both coming too? That is an excellent thing.
01:29Not me, old chap.
01:29Oh, Mr. Fawcside.
01:31Bored him, Mac.
01:32Think not.
01:36Then we shall have to go another time.
01:39I'm out of the picture, too.
01:42Oh.
01:43But that's such a shame.
01:45A small business matter.
01:47I don't want to go.
01:49I don't want to go.
01:49It's a dead bore, but...
01:51I...
01:53I'll make it up to you.
01:56If I am allowed?
01:58Of course.
02:02Then lunch.
02:05Tomorrow.
02:09I'd like that.
02:19A bientôt.
02:25What does the fellow do, for goodness sake?
02:27Oh, does it matter?
02:28Of course it does.
02:31Amuses me.
02:32And if you want to stay to dinner, Soames, I won't hear another word.
02:41Where did you first meet, Profond?
02:44It was with you, old chap.
02:46No, no.
02:47You've introduced him to me.
02:50Surely not.
02:51No one of it.
02:52He was about...
02:54He's a good company, and he's generous with it.
02:56He's a member here now, you know?
02:57His name was on the list as I came in.
03:00Now, who put him up?
03:01They'd have the lowdown.
03:05You.
03:06Why not?
03:09You're meant to know the pedigree of the person.
03:12You're proposing.
03:13It's club rules.
03:14Times have changed.
03:15The rot set in when we let you in through the doors.
03:20I was never like this bunch.
03:23Money talks.
03:28And that's 30.
03:30That's all right.
03:33Are you getting the hump about the wife?
03:36No, no.
03:37No, Freddie's just having a bit of fun.
03:40Gentleman's agreement.
03:41He pays your debt.
03:43You leave the bedroom door open.
03:46She's your cousin, George.
03:48Bit of respect, please.
03:49That's the way they do it on the continent, Darty.
03:52It's all above board.
03:53It's expected.
03:54Dukes and princesses are at it.
03:56They're leaping in and out of each other's beds.
03:58That's why we call them frogs.
04:10Good Lord.
04:19Frogs, indeed.
04:34Hello.
04:36I was on my way to London.
04:38I can't get over the fact you're here.
04:42You can drop in and...
04:44How is John?
04:46He's harvesting.
04:47Flat out all day.
04:49And reading poetry by night.
04:52I'll get some tea.
04:57She misses him.
05:04Fleur Forsyte is staying.
05:06With you?
05:07She invited herself down.
05:09Forced my hand.
05:10And John?
05:12We tried to keep them apart, but...
05:15Have they met before?
05:18In June's gallery, why?
05:20I think they like each other.
05:23Really like each other.
05:26This isn't a one thing.
05:29A one thing.
05:30Well, perhaps it's not such a bad thing.
05:32They could bring the families together.
05:36Dad, are you all right?
05:39No, of all types.
05:42You mustn't tell Irene.
05:44I won't, of course, if it's so very awful.
05:49I'm sorry.
05:50What's she like?
05:52A rather having sort of a person.
05:54Of foresight then.
05:55I saw her kiss him.
05:59Not a word.
06:02Here.
06:13Well, you wrote in your letter that you needed to see me urgently.
06:16I can assure you that unless it was of the utmost importance I wouldn't be here now.
06:30So, if you couldn't commit the matter to paper...
06:33Keep your daughter away from my son!
06:36You probably know they are together as we speak.
06:44I had no idea.
06:45They met at June's gallery.
06:47My son is staying with Val and Holly.
06:50Your daughter invited herself down, inveigled her way in.
06:53Val Doughty and his wife extended Fleur an invitation.
06:56She forced their hand.
06:57She must be like you.
06:58She sees something and decides to get it.
07:05So, what do you want me to do?
07:07Make sure this doesn't happen again.
07:10Stop it, you mean?
07:12Absolutely.
07:16You come here behind your son's back and tell me to break this up.
07:24You, of all people, the man who once lectured me on the importance of happiness in marriage, the man who
07:32spurned his own family to follow his heart, who stole another man's wife in the name of love.
07:39John and your daughter aren't in love.
07:42Have you asked them?
07:51This liaison is repugnant to me, too.
07:56Your son with my daughter.
08:02I'll do my utmost to stop it, and I presume you will, too.
08:05But at least I don't have to play the hypocrite.
08:11Good evening to you, sir.
08:31John?
08:32John?
08:33John!
08:33I've come to say goodbye.
08:41I wish you didn't have to leave.
08:42Oh, I told Dad it was only a weekend.
08:45Besides, I want to keep him sweet.
08:48You look wonderful.
08:51Who's the laundry boy?
08:52The laundry boy!
08:56Anyway, you're going home this weekend.
08:59We could fix it to go part of the way on the same train.
09:01If you'd give us an extra two hours and 45 minutes.
09:06You've got it all planned.
09:38John!
09:44No, no!
09:45No, no, no, no!
09:50No!
09:52No, no!
09:52No, no, no!
09:53No!
09:57I hope I can get you all right.
09:59No!
09:59No, no!
10:00No, no, no!
10:16I wish this journey went home forever.
10:20I'll tell Miss Esther you're here, sir.
10:58Oh, you should have seen me.
11:00What have you said?
11:02Aunt Hester.
11:04I'm all topsy-turvy.
11:07Oh, my dear.
11:11Have you bought Fleur?
11:14Isn't she back yet from the country?
11:16No.
11:17The view of the old hall?
11:21You can't feed a family on troppence a week?
11:24Who can't?
11:25Mrs Darty.
11:27Oh, Zones.
11:28Penny for it.
11:30How much did you make?
11:32Only 90 pounds.
11:34What's going on?
11:35Bailing Darty out again?
11:37The Dockers children.
11:38They've had no wages for weeks.
11:40Then they should go back to work.
11:42It's a matter of principle.
11:44So is feeding your family.
11:46I shall ask Smither to pour some sherry.
11:48And we will have it in the parlour.
11:52Are you all right?
11:54Do you realise I've had Joly and Forsyte to see me about Fleur and his brachet boy?
12:02As if I would encourage any contact with that side of the family.
12:06You should never have allowed Val to invite her.
12:08They must keep...
12:09They must be kept apart.
12:14And Father's snuffbox?
12:23Not a word of this to Annette.
12:24You understand?
12:26This is all you're doing.
12:28I hold you personally responsible.
12:32Personally responsible?
12:35I knew nothing about it.
12:36I hope you gave as good as you got, old thing.
12:38Oh, one of these days there'll be a murder.
12:40Oh, hang on, Freddie.
12:42Oh, the rotting's too good for him.
12:44Thank God, that'll teach him.
12:47Mr Profond is here.
12:49Oh.
12:52He's taking me to lunch.
12:53Is he, by Jove?
12:55Oh, don't do this to me, Monty.
12:56He mentioned it yesterday.
12:58Well, I thought things might have moved on since then.
13:02Moved on?
13:04Mrs Dougherty.
13:08Dougherty.
13:09I understand you two have an assignation.
13:11Did much, that?
13:12Pardon?
13:13You have an objection?
13:14Of course he doesn't.
13:15Do you, Monty?
13:16And even if he did, I'm coming anyway.
13:18I'll get my thing.
13:20Providing Freddie doesn't have to pay you for our lunch.
13:23I assure you, there is nothing like that.
13:25I'll let it go, then.
13:30By the way, how was that boring bit of business last night?
13:33It prevented you from taking Freddie to that play.
13:38Successful, was it?
13:41A telegram.
13:42She's on the 223.
13:44She says she'll walk back along the river.
13:46It'll be good to have her home.
13:47She'll be off again.
13:50There is nothing for her here.
14:01We shall have a house party.
14:04Well, it's time she learned to socialize with young men.
14:08As well as her school friends.
14:10You want to marry her off so soon?
14:12That's the last thing I want.
14:16But it's about time she learned how to conduct herself in society.
14:23I shall draw up a list of likely people.
14:27I take it some of our friends will be invited.
14:29One or two.
14:30But it will be Fleur's occasion.
14:33You must invite Winifred.
14:35That means Darty.
14:37Cousin George?
14:39And what about Winifred's friend?
14:41Profond, is he called?
14:42That would put Darty's nose out of joint.
14:45You suspect him and Winifred?
14:48Not seriously.
14:50Profond?
14:52Definitely not the marrying kind.
15:04Mr. Forsyte.
15:06Captain Mott.
15:07Perfect timing.
15:09Fleur should be back in half an hour.
15:11You know, we'll have to tell everyone sometime.
15:13About us?
15:14Not likely.
15:15We're not for ages yet.
15:17Anyway, they've got a secret.
15:18Why shouldn't we?
15:20What do you think this feud's all about?
15:22I think someone was murdered.
15:24Like who?
15:25I don't know.
15:27Anyone on your side?
15:28Your dad's been married before, hasn't he?
15:30Mm, twice.
15:31What happened?
15:32They died.
15:33Well, there you are!
15:34Your mother better watch out.
15:37Anyway, I'm going to find out.
15:39And even if I don't, we won't tell them about us.
15:41And that's that.
15:44I do love you.
15:46And no matter what their secret is, it won't make any difference to us, will it?
15:50Fleur!
15:51Trust Daddy, he sent a search party for me.
15:54We'll have to go our separate ways.
15:59I'll thank you every minute of every day, and other times.
16:02Let's meet as often as we can.
16:03Tomorrow, one o'clock, Green Park.
16:10I'm perfectly capable of making my own way home, thank you very much.
16:14Your father told me you were walking back from the station, and I thought I'd row across and fetch you.
16:18I've missed you all week, with not even a letter.
16:21I wouldn't waste the postage.
16:22Don't break my heart.
16:42There's something I've been wanting to tell you.
16:45I love you, Fleur Forsythe. I love you, I do.
16:48Oh, no you don't.
16:50Oh, yes I do.
16:52I shall sail you away to the dark, conference.
16:54Michael, Michael stop, we've got a tip!
16:56Africa, here we come.
17:01That's for you.
17:02Be careful.
17:03Clearly we'll sink us.
17:06Take that, please.
17:07No, no!
17:09Michael, stop it!
17:14Good to have you back on that.
17:18Well...
17:20Look who's here!
17:21John!
17:22Hello!
17:26Tell us your news.
17:28Holly sends her love.
17:29And Val.
17:30The stud's doing well.
17:33I usually get up at five, work in the fields till sunset.
17:36I get ragged by the men, but...
17:38Well, they're dead east now.
17:43And Fleur is there.
17:46Oh!
17:50What is she like?
17:51You know, so-so.
17:53Pleasant enough.
17:55I have to tell you the truth, I've been so busy, I've hardly seen her.
18:02Holly sends her love.
18:04Oh, I said that.
18:08I'm going to go and get changed.
18:10It's terrific being home.
18:23I'm scared, Julian.
18:27I have never seen him evasive like that before.
18:31Never?
18:34He's head over heels.
18:38If he takes up with this girl, I shall never see him again.
18:44To lose our son to Soames, that's the perfect revenge.
18:50What should we do?
18:51Should we...
18:52forbid them to see each other?
18:53Oh, no, that's been tried already.
18:55Besides, they're impetuous and she is clever.
19:02Take him on holiday.
19:05He wouldn't go.
19:06Well, I'll have a word.
19:07Take his mind off her.
19:10Show him Paris.
19:11Take your time.
19:13What about you?
19:14Oh, I'll be all right. I've got plenty to do.
19:17It'd be good for you to spend more time in them.
19:21Some of these photographs are very good, John.
19:26You know, when I left school, uh, well, your grandfather
19:29took me on the grand tour.
19:32It's the greatest gift he ever gave me.
19:34And it was in Italy that I decided that I wanted to be an artist.
19:37And I wonder that if I hadn't gone on that holiday,
19:40whether I'd have just gone into the family firm
19:43like the rest of the Forsyth's.
19:46Hey, come on, Dad. I know ye.
19:48What are you really trying to say?
19:51Well, I want you to go on holiday with your mother.
19:54The harvest is coming in.
19:56Well, I promised Maple I'd be there.
19:58She thinks the world of you, you know.
20:00And I do of her.
20:02Well, then, if you want to make her happy, one last holiday.
20:05Two of you.
20:06That's unfair.
20:12Another party, Daddy.
20:14It's a lovely idea.
20:16Only...
20:18Well, it's so soon after my birthday, it'll cost you a fortune.
20:23If it pleases my daughter.
20:26Hmm.
20:27Besides, since when is spending my money ever worried you?
20:33Dear Daddy, I don't deserve you.
20:36Can we really have a chess band?
20:38A small one.
20:42I'll need some new clothes.
20:44Perhaps I could go up to town tomorrow.
20:49Hmm. I'll come with you.
20:51We'll make a day of it.
20:54You and me.
20:58You can help me choose an outfit.
21:00Something fashionable for the party.
21:05Daddy?
21:06Are you still alive?
21:07I'm not at all sure about this, Claire.
21:09Please, Daddy, don't be tiresome.
21:12Please, Daddy, don't be tiresome.
21:38Straw.
21:39Elegant.
21:41Makes me look like a bargy.
21:43Nonsense.
21:44It's dreamy.
21:46But...
21:47Pink would be smarter.
21:49Pink?
21:51He'll take it.
21:53The striper.
21:54And the blazer, sir?
21:55Yes.
21:57The flannels?
21:59Those two.
22:00Flower.
22:00If you're going to have a garden party, you may as well look the part.
22:05Am I finished?
22:07Hmm?
22:07Good.
22:08And we'll take a taxi to the station and be home for lunch.
22:13I need to call at my club.
22:17To collect my post.
22:21Well, I'll wait for you at the station.
22:24Don't be long.
22:34I'm sorry, Fleur, but my father insisted I go.
22:38Three months. I can't bear it.
22:40Neither can I.
22:42Then why did you agree?
22:45No, you don't love me. You can't. Oh, John.
22:47Come on, of course I do.
22:50Anyway, who was that man in the boat?
22:53Him?
22:54A friend of my father's.
22:57Michael Mont.
22:59He's an idiot. I don't care for him one bit.
23:02Will he be at this party?
23:04I've said he's nothing to me.
23:09It won't make any difference.
23:11Being apart. Not to me it won't.
23:14Not to me.
23:19One last kiss.
23:21One last kiss.
23:37Remember.
23:38Whatever happens while you're away, we'll pick up just as we are.
23:42What do you mean?
23:44Whatever happens.
23:47I'll be faithful to you.
23:49I will.
23:50Promise.
23:53Forever and ever.
23:54That's not vain.
24:14Thought he'd be back orfull Jay.
24:15Well, he did that or I'll go with that.

31:26I'll pop round.
31:31Thank you for a terrific weekend.
31:37Nothing wrong with your service, but...
31:44Come along, darling.
31:50Should you not be saying goodbye to your guests?
31:55You're right.
32:00Goodbye, Prosper.
32:19You're in love.
32:20How can you tell?
32:22How are you looking at each other?
32:25It's Prosper's car.
32:27Peace out with Mama.

32:34Shh.
32:57Oh, Jude, you scared the living daylights out of me.
33:02What do you think?
33:03Half an hour, door to door.
33:06I think it'll break your neck.
33:12Oh, dear.
33:14I think I'll have a sit down.
33:16I'm exhausted.
33:17Have you been to see Dr. Little?
33:20Yes, yes, of course I have.
33:22What did he say?
33:27I promise you won't say a word to Irene or John.
33:30I would have told them myself.
33:33It's my heart, Jonah.
33:37It's not its last legs.
33:40It's quite loving.
33:45It can't be.
33:48It comes to all of us, sooner or later.
33:52Not you.
33:54You're all I've got.
33:56You can't die.
33:58I don't want to.
34:03I'm happier than I've ever been, I don't.
34:06It's just I think we ought to face it.
34:09Why do I always lose everyone I love?
34:12You can't die.
34:14You're a foresight.
34:17All that talk of love.
34:20What about my love for you?
34:26No one loves you more than I do.
34:30No one loves you more than I do.
34:30You're my wrong.
34:31Who else can I cling to?
34:34I won't let this happen.
34:39No.
34:58What do you mean?
35:20On to the house.
35:22And may I congratulate Mademoiselle on her play?
35:27Mademoiselle thinks maybe Le Patron has been sampling his excellent wine with too much enthusiasm.
35:34Au contraire. The wine sharpens the senses.
35:38You play with Esprit. So does Monsieur in his own way.
35:45My son also plays the piano.
35:48Ah, your son?
35:50Yes.
35:52How long are you in Paris?
35:53No, that depends on when we tire of it.
35:59Then I shall make sure that you stay a long time.
36:01I shall hold you to that.
36:03With the permission of your son.
36:06He's making a pass at you.
36:08I'm old enough to look after myself.
36:12You were saying, Monsieur?
36:15Perhaps you would care to dance.
36:18Why not?
36:19Perhaps Monsieur would care to play.
36:22Yes.
36:29What are you waiting for?
36:31Thank you for checking in somebody'solina.
36:33No!
36:42No!
36:46No!
36:49No!
36:51No!
36:52No!
37:00Hello.
37:06You on a hike?
37:08No, just exploring.
37:10I walk from the station.
37:14I've just spotted the most beautiful house.
37:22Oh dear.
37:23I say, are you all right?
37:27Are you far to go?
37:30Just across the field, then.
37:34Oh, it's your house.
37:36Oh, how lovely.
37:45Ah, there you are.
37:50Lemonade.
37:52I don't know your name.
37:55Jerry?
37:57Jolyon.
37:58Jolyon Forsyte.
38:01All on his own, missing his other half.
38:06I listen to me going on.
38:09So, they're in Paris?
38:11Yes.
38:13They've been gone a month.
38:16When are they back?
38:18Another month.
38:19Maybe longer.
38:23Take my advice.
38:24When you find someone you love, never let them go.
38:30You should drink, huh?
38:31You're going to miss your train.
38:33There'll be another one.
38:35You're just like my son.
38:36Hang the consequences.
38:40It's charming.
38:42Come on.
38:43I'll walk you.
38:46All right.
38:47All right.
38:48Thank you for the laminator.
38:49All right, Claire.
39:03All right, Claire.
39:16You're not going to be on your old records.
39:17All right.
39:31All right.
39:33All right.
39:37All right.
39:39All right.
39:39All right.
39:40All right.
39:40All right.
39:46What did you buy?
39:47Nothing in the end.
39:50Is my moor back?
39:52She wasn't on the train?
39:53No.
39:59Well, we'll have dinner at the usual time, whether or not.
40:06That'll be her now.
40:10Annette!
40:24You promised me heights
40:25too
40:25If you've already been up, you've already got the star...
40:31What do you got?
41:04John?
41:11Did you get to the gallery?
41:13Mm-hmm.
41:15Dozens of Impressionists.
41:17I've got some postcards.
41:19Ah.
41:25Degas.
41:26Mm-hmm.
41:28She's got impish eyes.
41:32It's quite beautiful.
41:40Your boyfriend was asking after you?
41:42Oh, I don't know who you mean.
41:44I think you do, mamazella.
41:46And I think you enjoy dancing with her.
41:48Oh, is that so terrible?
41:49What would Dad say?
41:50He would laugh.
41:52Mm-hmm.
42:01Do you want to go home?
42:04Yes.
42:06Mm-hmm.
42:07Mm-hmm.
42:07So do I.
42:22What a surprise!
42:23Yes.
42:24Hi.
42:25Mm-hmm.
42:28Did you get our telegram?
42:29That's about an hour ago.
42:31Hello, Dad.
42:31Hi.
42:33Hi, Dad.
42:34Hi, Dad.
42:34Hi, Dad.
42:37Hi, Dad.
42:37Wait till you see what I've got you.
42:38Hi, Dad.
42:44Hello.
42:45Hi, Dad.
42:46Hi, Dad.
42:46I missed you.
42:48I missed you so much.
42:50Oh.
42:54So what changed your mind?
42:56It was making things worse.
43:00The longer we were there, the more he was missing her.
43:04Hmm.
43:05I'm afraid it failed.
43:09There should be a table for us now.
43:11Oh, no, there's my father.
43:13Val!
43:15Val, come and join us.
43:17Who's my son?
43:24Do you remember John?
43:25Yes.
43:26Julian's boy.
43:27Hello.
43:27Yeah.
43:29Thanks, ma'am.
43:30We'll start with the dover saw.
43:32Yes.
43:33And the duck to follow.
43:35And two more places, please.
43:37Please, sit down.
43:38Sit down, sit down.
43:39Ah!
43:42Sillended.
43:44It's good to see you, my boy.
43:48I thought George was joining us.
43:50Good meeting, meeting.
43:52Probably pushing up the cost of the grub.
43:54Or the wine.
43:58How's your father?
43:59He's fine.
44:01I think he missed my mother while we were away.
44:04He's pleased we're back.
44:05And how is the lovely Irene?
44:07She's well, thank you.
44:09So, you will not know Somme's foresight then?
44:13He and my father don't seem to get on.
44:16That's one way of putting it.
44:19Do you...
44:19Do you know what happened?
44:21Best not inquire, John.
44:22Stable secret.
44:23Hmm.
44:24It's a bed of nettles.
44:30How is the filly?
44:31How is the filly?
44:32Fine.
44:32I won't breed from her yet, though.
44:34I intend to repent.
44:35Rum lot the foresight.
44:36When you breed a Darby winner, not before.
44:40A bit of advice, John.
44:43Don't let Somes call the shots.
44:46You tried to put Winifred off me, but I married her all the same.
44:52You're sweet on his daughter, that's the word.
44:57Hmm.
44:58Well.
44:59You stand up to the buggers.
45:01Never say die.
45:02Oh.
45:03And another thing.
45:06Fleur.
45:08Don't dilly-dally.
45:09You understand me?
45:10Some other chap might sprint past on the inside.
45:21That's difficult, this.
45:22Seems I've drawn a short straw.
45:25What's up, old boy?
45:31Excuse me, gents.
45:48The fact is, Darty, we've had a meeting about that money you owe.
45:52And I spoke up for you.
45:55But they voted you out.
45:57What?
45:58I'm afraid so.
46:00And I'll have to ask you to leave.
46:02That's a bit sudden.
46:03They've given you two weeks to settle up.
46:05Then you can reapply, mind.
46:07No guarantee.
46:09But there must be some mistake.
46:12No?
46:24Oh.
46:25Um.
46:26Don't tell the old girl that's a good chap.
46:28Don't want to cause her any more upset than I have already.
46:32Pity you didn't think of that before.
46:58Mr. Soames is here to see Mrs. Darty.
47:01Well?
47:02Mum's gone to the florist.
47:04Well, he'll just have to come back later.
47:07No.
47:08No showman.
47:26Ah.
47:27She won't be long.
47:31Sniffed her?
47:35No, not me.
47:38Please.
47:43Jolly good do at your place.
47:45Appreciate it.
47:46Family and all that.
47:50I'm glad you've turned up.
47:53I have a proposition for you.
47:55May interest you.
47:58Interest being the operative word.
48:00Thing is...
48:00You're short of cash.
48:02No, I wouldn't put it like that.
48:04Gosh, no, no.
48:05It's just that what's coming in is coming in slower than what's going out.
48:11Gone out.
48:12You're in debt.
48:13Giving you the chance to earn a bit of dosh.
48:16Oh.
48:17If it wasn't so pathetic, I'd find it amusing.
48:19Oh, come on, Sam's old chap.
48:21No one's so well-heeled they're not looking for another opportunity.
48:24Go on.
48:26Two.
48:27Two.
48:27You see?
48:34Two percent over the Bank of England.
48:37Two.
48:38And how much do you need?
48:40As much as you can spare.
48:42A hundred.
48:43And...
48:43fifty.
48:45Two hundred.
48:46With what security?
48:50Well...
48:51The house isn't yours.
48:53Yes, I hardly need reminding.
48:56Um...
48:57Winifred.
48:57She's my security, if you like.
48:59You're offering your wife a security for a loan?
49:02Yes, because she's your sister, old boy.
49:04Look, I'm asking you for help to protect the good name of the family.
49:07The only way you could have done that was to have married someone else.
49:13Yes, well, that's one thing I don't regret.
49:16Winifred may have other ideas.
49:18At least I don't bully her and treat her like a dunce.
49:21Pity you don't have some of her qualities.
49:23Forgiveness, for one.
49:24She's had a lot of practice.
49:26It hasn't all been one-sided.
49:27We rub along together.
49:29For better, for worse, and all that.
49:34You've always been jealous of me, haven't you?
49:37Unfortunately, where women are concerned,
49:39it's not just what's in the bank that counts,
49:41it's in other departments.
49:43Careful, Dottie.
49:44Oh, it's common knowledge.
49:46Talk of the town.
49:47Annette and her continental appetite.
49:53How dare you.
50:07John?
50:09John?
50:11Ah!
50:15Ah!
50:16Ah!
50:18Ah!
50:20Ah!
50:24Guess what?
50:24What?
50:25I found a photograph.
50:26In my father's room.
50:27Hidden. A secret.
50:30Well?
50:31It was of your mother.
50:33When she was young.
50:34Are you sure?
50:35Yes.
50:36They must have been in love.
50:37And that's what the feud is about.
50:39She married your father instead of mine.
50:40That's why they don't get on.
50:41Why should that stop us from being together?
50:44It was up to us to make them see sense.
50:46I'm sure your father would be on our side.
50:48In fact, I know he would.
50:51I've met him.
50:53When?
50:53I've been to Robin Hill.
50:57What?
50:58I wanted to see where you lived.
50:59I missed you so terribly.
51:01It was the next best thing.
51:02And you met my father.
51:04He never mentioned it.
51:06Because he didn't know it was me.
51:08It didn't come up.
51:09And then, when it did, it was too late.
51:12This is awful.
51:13No, it isn't.
51:14We got on.
51:15He's a sweetie.
51:22What did you talk about?
51:24Not you.
51:26Your mother, mainly.
51:29He told me I ought to do what my heart tells me.
51:32So, you see, he'll give us his blessing.
51:34I know he will.
51:48Yeah.
52:06He told me I ought to use two friends, just to keep it up.
52:10He told you I ought to do this.
52:12Yay.
52:16That's what we think.
52:16I know, you're on.
