01:56Another earthquake just struck Venezuela.
01:59A magnitude 5.4 aftershock hit early Saturday, and for a country that's already been shattered
02:06this week, the ground simply will not stop moving.
02:10On June 24, Venezuela was hit by one of the most destructive earthquake events in over
02:16a century, a rare doublet quake, two massive strikes just 39 seconds apart, a 7.2 foreshock,
02:26then a 7.5 main shock, both centered near Yaraqui State, west of Caracas.
02:32The shallow depth made the destruction catastrophic.
02:36Buildings collapsed across Caracas, Laguara, and coastal communities.
02:41The death toll has climbed to at least 900 confirmed fatalities.
02:46Thousands are injured.
02:47And right now, over 50,000 people are still feared missing.
02:52And then, Saturday morning, the ground shook again.
02:56A 5.4 magnitude aftershock rattled the nation, the latest in a sequence of over 100 aftershocks
03:03recorded since Tuesday.
03:05On its own, a 5.4 is a moderate quake.
03:09But here's the thing.
03:11Context is everything.
03:12When your buildings are already cracked, already leaning, already compromised, even moderate
03:19shaking can bring them down.
03:20On rescuers.
03:22On survivors still trapped inside.
03:24Every tremor right now is a race against time.
03:28Rescue crews have been working around the clock, pulling people from rubble with their hands,
03:33with limited equipment, in areas that are barely accessible.
03:37And every aftershock forces them to stop, to run, to reassess whether it's even safe to go back in.
03:45Residents in Caracas Saturday described panic in the streets.
03:49People choosing to sleep outside, rather than return to buildings that may not survive the next shake.
03:56And seismologists are warning, this is not over.
03:59Aftershocks of this scale are expected for weeks, possibly months, as the fault system along the Caribbean-South American plate
04:07boundary continues to adjust.
04:10International aid is mobilizing.
04:12The U.S. has pledged around $150 million in assistance, with Pentagon assets already moving to support rescue operations.
04:21Starlink terminals are helping restore communications in the hardest-hit areas.
04:26Venezuela's government has declared a nationwide state of emergency.
04:31Schools are closed.
04:32Non-essential activities suspended.
04:34But logistics remain a massive challenge.
04:38Venezuela's infrastructure was already strained before this disaster.
04:42Getting aid to where it's needed most is a crisis within the crisis.
04:46A 5.4 aftershock may not make global headlines the way a 7.5 does, but for the people of
04:54Venezuela right now, every tremor is a reminder that the nightmare isn't over.
04:59The focus right now, save lives.
05:02Pull people from rubble.
