00:00Hello, sir.
00:02Well, hello.
00:02How are you today?
00:04Great.
00:05We're here with 100 or so people in Hull.
00:11Hey, good morning, everybody.
00:13Up right and early.
00:15Where were you?
00:16What state were you born in?
00:19Maine.
00:21Maine.
00:22Oh, Dale.
00:23That's not Dale Arnold.
00:24No.
00:24That's not Dale Arnold.
00:26Are you a professional athlete?
00:33Yes and no.
00:35Yes and no?
00:37So, okay, would Wiggy qualify your sport as being an athlete?
00:41That's a great question.
00:44Well, are you more well-known for being, I can ask it this way,
00:49more well-known for being an athlete or for something else?
00:54Something else.
00:55Okay, something else.
00:57Wow.
00:57Something else.
00:58Wow.
00:59What?
01:00Hold on.
01:00What?
01:00Patrick Dempsey.
01:02What did you say?
01:05You nailed it.
01:06How did you get that?
01:08Really?
01:09Ladies and gentlemen, Patrick Dempsey, McDreamy.
01:12Hey, good morning, everybody.
01:13Holy smoke!
01:13Is on the show.
01:14Is on the show.
01:15No way.
01:15No way.
01:16Yes.
01:17That's good.
01:17That's right now.
01:18Nice job.
01:18We have a prize for you.
01:20We have a prize for you.
01:23We have a prize for you.
01:23Patrick, thanks for being on with us.
01:25Well, thank you for having me.
01:26I appreciate it.
01:28I would say you are probably, like, when people meet you, do they, is that what they bring
01:34up most?
01:35Is McDreamy, or is it Can't Buy Me Love, or what do people bring up first?
01:40It depends on the generation, but sometimes the older generation is a little bit more
01:44Can't Buy Me Love, and then, of course, there's always, you know, Grey's Anatomy.
01:50Yeah.
01:51And that show is, people still binge that show.
01:54It's still on.
01:55Yeah, it's still on.
01:56It's still going strong.
01:59Wow.
01:59Yeah.
02:00It's Can't Buy Me Love.
02:01Yes.
02:02Wow.
02:02Yes.
02:02Are you serious?
02:03Yes.
02:04Wow.
02:04Wow.
02:04Are you all right?
02:05Well, that's right.
02:06My wheelhouse childhood.
02:09But wait, from an athlete, when you say athlete perspective, you race cars.
02:14Am I right about that?
02:15That's correct.
02:16That's correct.
02:16Yeah.
02:17And you own a bunch of cars, too, right?
02:19Yes, I do.
02:20I own a bunch of cars, and I've raced for a number of years, and, yeah, there's a certain
02:26professionalism to that in the approach to amateur driving, certainly at that level, in
02:29the WEC and Cup Series and things like that.
02:32How long did you work before you got into a career?
02:36Like, how long did it take you to get your big break in acting?
02:40I got my big break very quickly.
02:42I flew into New York to audition for a play called Torch Song Trilogy at 17 years old, and
02:49I got that, and that was my first big break very, very early.
02:53I was very fortunate.
02:54And then I left Maine and went to San Francisco to do that, and then back to New York, and
02:59then went on the road with Brighton Beach Memoirs for a number of years.
03:02And then my first big role in a film was, really, the breakthrough was Can't Buy Me Love.
03:09Wow, this is pretty cool, right?
03:12We can get it for the first time ever.
03:15So I'm assuming, with your ties to Maine, that you've always been a Patriots fan.
03:22Absolutely.
03:23Okay.
03:23Patriots, Red Sox, everything.
03:25You know, and I think growing up in Maine and then finally seeing the Boston Red Sox win
03:31and beating the curse of the babe was a beautiful moment.
03:34It was, like, such a cathartic moment.
03:37I think we saw it in New York this year, unfortunately, with what happened with their basketball team.
03:42So I think it's one of those things that just changes your whole way of looking at your town,
03:47your city, and your sports team.
03:49It brings everybody, lifts everybody up.
03:50That was a major turning point to see the Red Sox win.
03:52And then certainly with the Patriots becoming, you know, world champions in, you know, Super Bowl,
03:59you know, consistently with Brady was a magical thing as well.
04:02It brings a lot of pride back to that area.
04:03And it's really good.
04:04So the psyche of our New England area.
04:08Patrick, my son and I are massive horror movie fans.
04:13We obviously saw Thanksgiving.
04:15Right.
04:16We know Thanksgiving 2 is coming out.
04:18When is the date for that?
04:19And, you know, is there any kind of information that you can kind of give us on that movie?
04:25Well, I haven't talked.
04:26Eli is actually from the Boston area, right?
04:29So he grew up there.
04:30And I think we're trying to get something done, but I don't have a start date or a script for
04:34that yet.
04:35Okay.
04:35There's still a process of working on that.
04:37If you need an extra, Jermaine Wiggins is a Super Bowl champion, and he would love to be a part.
04:41I know Eli's new movie, The Ice Cream Man, I believe is coming out this summer or something like that.
04:47I know he's a big, big, he's a local guy.
04:49There's a lot of really good horror movies.
04:51Yeah.
04:52That's wild.
04:52Yeah, he's great to work with and really a great guy.
04:54And you would never know he was into the horror business.
04:57He's just so calm and so mellow.
04:59He's got such a dark nature, which is great.
05:02And he's fun to work with.
05:03Well, I thought I read the plot of Thanksgiving, too, was the horror of there's a fan who's forced to
05:11watch every Red Sox game this season.
05:13Is that what it is?
05:16No.
05:19No.
05:20Listen, Patrick, not only are you a great actor, not only are you a great race car driver, but you
05:27do a lot for the community up there in Maine.
05:30And there's a big celebrity golf event that is happening this weekend.
05:37Yes, we're going to be at the Thelmuth Country Club.
05:39We've got a little bit of a scramble happening today.
05:42It's raining now, but it's going to clear.
05:43So that'll be good.
05:44And then we're going to have a beautiful weekend.
05:46And it's a cause called Drive for the Kids.
05:48It benefits the Dempsey Center, which is a foundation I started, and the Maine House Barbara Bush Children's, which is
05:56really good.
05:56And we've got a lot of athletes coming up and playing.
05:58And it's a very serious tournament.
06:00It's a little intimidating when you're out there playing with all these retired pros who play every day.
06:05And they're very serious, very competitive.
06:07And it's fun.
06:08It's a great cause.
06:09It's good people.
06:10And the camaraderie is a lot of fun.
06:12And I love it.
06:14Well, get out there this weekend.
06:16We're on in Maine.
06:18We were just up there doing a road show a couple weeks ago.
06:20So get out there and support the event this weekend.
06:23And I know Sean Thornton's playing and Tuka Rask.
06:27And so a whole bunch of guys and ladies that are celebrities in that event this weekend.
06:33Yeah, it's a great lineup.
06:34And everybody's really good with their time.
06:36So please come out.
06:36Support us.
06:37Two great causes.
06:38And I just love being part of this community.
06:40Everybody steps up when there's a need to help other people.
06:44And I'm very proud to be a part of that.
06:46Continue to be a part of that.
06:47And I want to thank all of you this morning for the time to talk about it.
06:50And Patrick, Greg's favorite cinema moment ever is in Sweet Home, Alabama, when you propose inside Tiffany's.
06:57That really was just iconic.
06:59That was cool.
07:00That was fun.
07:01We actually shut down Tiffany's to do that scene.
07:03And it was really quite magical when we were shooting it.
07:06It was cool.
07:06Well, you know what Patrick and I have in common?
07:09I believe neither one of us graduated from high school.
07:13Am I right about that?
07:14That's correct.
07:14That is correct.
07:15I lied about my age to go off to do the play.
07:17And I never went back.
07:19I did get sort of – they eventually gave me a graduate – you know, my certificate of graduation.
07:27But no.
07:27Not so lucky, man.
07:30But you've done pretty well, though.
07:32You've done pretty well.
07:34I don't recommend it, but I'm glad I made it this far.
07:38It must be like – the best day of the month must be when the Grey's Anatomy residual check arrives.
07:44It's always an exciting day.
07:46It's not a bad day.
07:48I mean, that thing has been on – how long – like, they literally can keep that on.
07:52You could be like, you know, 90 years old and keep going back to Grey's Anatomy.
07:58You could actually be the patient.
07:59I think they're 22 years in.
08:01I think it's 22 years or 23.
08:02I did 11.
08:03I did 11, and that was 11 years ago.
08:06Yeah.
08:06It's that and law and order.
08:07They should do it – no, it's – well, yeah, law and order.
08:09But they should do it like the last one should be in a nursing home.
08:12Right.
08:12And it's like grey-haired – grey-haired anatomy.
08:16Thank you, Charles.
08:17It's brilliant.
08:18That sounds awful.
08:19Greg, all right.
08:20Can I ask Patrick one thing before he goes on?
08:21I always love to ask – I don't talk to a lot of movie stars, but I'm – you know,
08:26I'm always – I've been fascinated with movies my whole life.
08:28What's the one role that you turn down that you regret?
08:33And it's always interesting to see, like, what movies – you know, what actors' roles they turn down and go,
08:38damn, I should have took that one.
08:40Oh, there was – you know, there was a TV show called Nip and Tuck that I was offered, and
08:44I turned that down.
08:49Isn't that like – isn't that a reality show, though?
08:51No, it was like a six-season show.
08:54Oh, okay.
08:56I thought it was going to say, like, Spider-Man or something like that.
08:58Oh, no, no, no.
08:59No, no, no.
09:00I wish.
09:01I wouldn't have turned that down.
09:02No.
09:03All right.
09:03No.
09:03All right.
09:03All right, ladies and gentlemen, Patrick Dempsey.
09:07I can't believe she got that.
09:09Thanks so much.
09:09Have a great weekend.
09:10Have fun this morning.
09:12All right, Patrick, thank you very much.
