00:00Fallout New Vegas 2 was but a sparkle in the eyes of top leadership at Obsidian before
00:04plans for a sequel fell apart, reveals the studio's former senior designer Chris Avalon.
00:09In a recent talk with TK's Mantis, Avalon was asked about Fallout 2 developer Black
00:13Isle Studios cancelled Fallout 3, which was codenamed Van Buren. Specifically,
00:18TK's Mantis asked whether his theory that New Vegas acts as if the events of Van Buren happen
00:22is correct. It turns out TK's Mantis is partly right, and that there are certain things that
00:27were going to take place in Van Buren that do happen during the time of New Vegas, Avalon said.
00:31And so that was the reason for some of the precursor decisions, for some of the DLC stuff,
00:35and some of the stuff in Core New Vegas. When we still thought we'd be able to do a New
00:39Vegas 2,
00:40or whatever the title would be, but that quickly evaporated. Of course, this means very little
00:44for a potential New Vegas sequel. And in fact, Avalon himself says that will not happen in the
00:49next six years at least, if ever. But just hearing those words from the original Fallout New Vegas
00:53designer is sure to ring alarm bells for a bunch of people. Avalon is probably right to temper
00:58expectations for a potential New Vegas 2. Although there was a credible report from 2022 that very
01:03early talks were happening at Microsoft, we haven't heard anything since.
