00:00oh my god mr t and rowdy roddy piper nose to nose in the center of the ring mr t
00:11serious point of contention describing roddy piper how about wild card
00:18renegade main eventer all day long
00:22and then there's the definition of pop culture icon
00:30mr t was huge at that time
00:37now who cares i'm gonna bring it roddy piper wasn't a guy that anything was given to him
00:43he hated the act of someone coming into the business and getting it handed to them you're
00:47looking at someone that will take your life everything he had worked so hard from a young
00:54teen it just couldn't be taken down by some actor walking in the ring if you bring me somebody
01:00outside our business i'm gonna eat his lunch they didn't know that i knew my stuff this is for real
01:06i could hold my own i wasn't a powder puff there was so much animosity there was no love in
01:12that ring
01:13oh what is going on pandemonium i won't pipe i won't pipe
01:34when two legends collide the rivalry stays pinned in our minds forever this is where we break down the
01:42legendary stories behind the greatest rivalries of all time i'm gabriel iglesias and this is
01:50wwe rivals
02:00roddy roddy piper versus mr t having celebrities coming in to uh be part of this world wasn't always so
02:09welcoming and piper i felt was one of those guys who was just old school and it just needed to
02:15be the
02:15people that needed to be there not someone else coming in to maybe take the blind light away from
02:22those that worked so hard to be there i think the biggest thing with roddy piper is he felt that
02:26he
02:26wasn't really respected or appreciated by by mr t in some sort of way because i can't see roddy piper
02:32just hating mr d i can't i know right what i think this guy's doing to wrestling is damn right
02:42there is that thing of him wanting to protect the business and as far as a celebrity being in the
02:49ring right i think that's what bothered roddy because he felt it wasn't earned the fact that you
02:54passed it to me what just eats me inside i didn't know roddy piper very well but i met him
03:00a few times
03:01it seemed to me like he had a chip on his shoulder absolutely about how good he was how he
03:07thought
03:07people should give him more credit for how good he was and you know and then you know mr t's
03:11kind of
03:11a tough guy not tougher than me piper just didn't like him just plain and flat out did not like
03:20just never liked him from day one
03:26rottie was born in saskatoon saskatchewan it was a hard upbringing he always kind of felt like he was
03:34an afterthought in his family is what he would tell me not a lot of hugs not a lot of
03:40verbal i love you's
03:42i left home when i was 13 i lived on the street for two years so i had a lot
03:47of
03:52i love abandonment issues
03:57i was angry and i was lost about this time was also when he was visiting youth hostels and
04:05going to gyms to work out and a owner of the gym and promoters there saw that he had something
04:12and
04:13he fell into wrestling and the right people saw him and said hey son you want to do this and
04:19and he did
04:21and it just rolled and rolled and rolled because he put everything into it like he does with everything
04:27i'm so fortunate to have wrestling and the way it evolved if it hadn't i would have been dead there
04:34no doubt about it
04:38here's who i am in a nutshell i got seven brothers and four sisters living on south side chicago
04:43welfare food stamps my mother had to knock on the neighbor's door to borrow a quarter 50 cent so i
04:50can
04:50have something to eat when i go to school she would knock on miss johnson dope said miss johnson i
04:55hate
04:55to bother you but could you loan me a quarter of 50 cents i'll give it back to you with
04:59my welfare
05:00check come i want to give it to my kids like roddy piper mr t had to find his own
05:07way in the tough
05:08part of chicago he had to fight to avoid falling into all of the traps wrestling that's what kept me
05:17away
05:17from the crime and drugs and all of the stuff i was a couple years in high school wrestling champ
05:22the one time muhammad ali visit the school he got on the public address system he said i want the
05:27baddest kid in school to meet me in the gym room and the baddest kid out here his name is
05:32t the
05:33wrestling champ muhammad ali my childhood hero so that's my first wrestling experience
05:39after high school i was a bodyguard and a boxer and a bouncer at the disco i had a reputation
05:46you know
05:46being the tough bodyguard the bouncer and that's who i am at the same time nbc had this contest games
05:55people play they want to find out who was the toughest bouncer in america so i entered the
06:00contest on nbc and all of a sudden here's this colorful character and he comes across like a genuine
06:06badass and then you never know who's watching right sylvester stallone
06:13he goes to one of the biggest movie franchises in the history of america and being a toe-to-toe
06:20legitimate rival to rocky balboa you know you've got a big mouth you know
06:27mr t was unlike anything anyone had really seen when he burst on the pop culture scene in the 80s
06:36at the time mr t is probably one of the most recognizable celebrities
06:44it just keep getting bigger i was invited to the white house kid from the ghetto get invited
06:50to the white house to meet the president ronald reagan his wife nancy reagan me wow
06:57roddy piper in the mid 80s has gone to wwe and you now have the top bad guy in the
07:11entire business
07:12the boss is back everything roddy got in this business he earned it and i don't think anyone
07:20did it like roddy but just when they think they got the answers i changed the questions mike skills
07:28top one percent because i was rowdy before rowdy was cool at that time
07:37couldn't touch me
07:40during the 80s the wrestling business was changing you have just tuned in
07:45to the rock and wrestling connection right here on mtv it was a crazy time frame to see suddenly
07:53the biggest celebrities in the world and you're seeing them with wrestlers i have a golden platinum
07:59record to give to the world wrestling federation and the fans wwe starts to become this pop culture
08:08thing you gotta remember too without us they're neither oh my god either way this became mainstream
08:18popular this was different like there was something really big going on like bigger than i ever imagined
08:24like this was huge and so for mr t wwe would be a natural venue for that kind of personality
08:33without
08:36doubt wwe was trying to figure out who the key players were in pop culture who were willing to
08:44play ball and also who made sense as a brand fit we were watching the a-team we sure as
08:52heck we're
08:52watching rocky 3 and there were big brains and big voices that said these are the eyeballs we need on
08:59our
08:59product i was in the rocky movie and mr t had been a friend of mine from the movie we
09:07had a conversation
09:08one thing led to another we got this whole new plan in motion you know we said well we could
09:14do business
09:15with it it was strictly business wwe was establishing what it was going to become it was saying this
09:23wrestling thing is great but if we add a more clear layer of just outright entertainment then we have a
09:31spectacle
09:34and welcome to madison square garden tonight ladies and gentlemen the war to settle the score
09:41the hottest ticket in town at the time i had a rivalry with piper and the war to settle the
09:48score
09:49was a big blow off between me and him and tonight heavyweight champion hulk hogan with the final
09:56offense against tillinger roddy roddy piper in a corner of roddy roddy his bodyguard his arm in a sling
10:04ace cowboy ball borton he had orton i had cindy lopper i mean it was just crazy cindy lopper she
10:13was a
10:13female vocalist of the year that year that has nothing to do with business and it's stupid i mean
10:19one-on-one stupid madison square garden will be ruthless minutes from now they'll blow the top off
10:26this joint
10:31eventually unforeseen circumstances work their way into the match call mr wonderful
10:37orndorff roddy pipers flunky gets involved
10:40orndorff oh come on please look out oh you gotta be kidding me cindy lopper up on the apron
10:47come to the hulk's assistance wait a minute what in the world is going on here
10:52guess who's sitting in the front row
10:58cindy lopper jumps in so then i think orndorff or whatever they slapped her head off
11:02oh no you know then i say you can't do that to no lady this is so good because t
11:15was a massive
11:16star then i mean you're as big as you can at the time about as big as you could possibly
11:21get and a
11:21legit tough guy and everybody knew it mr t on his feet everyone's on their feet so then i came
11:28up and
11:28i just i wasn't supposed to i just came off the tee and slapped him hard all of a sudden
11:39a new york
11:40city policeman with a uniform and a gun is in the ring and there comes another one like everybody
11:47that's not supposed to be in there is in there what's going on we have to come back now security
11:55holding everyone back it was a little bit now because it's so old i think about it you know
12:01it was nine of the keystone cops what is going on ladies and gentlemen it's pandemonium
12:06what happened to our backs it was just wild ladies and gentlemen
12:12the winner of this fight as a result of a disqualification hulk hogan
12:32i love you man i love you you know i like it ever since we did rocky three man then
12:38when i saw
12:39sitting around i just like to see a good match i like to go to wrestling but i don't like
12:42to see
12:42no stuff going on unfair when the guy hits sydney i don't like that i think that's a chump and
12:45a
12:45sister's gotta hit a lady you know for mr t it was wwe's way to interject him you know in
12:51a
12:51really high profile main event way the only way this guy holds this title is he has this he has
12:56this stupid guy with some ridiculous haircut if you want this geek mr t to come in i'll be glad
13:01to
13:01put an x where the t is i don't really give a damn man but shortly after that it was
13:05like crazy
13:13it's now official it will be hulk hogan mr t against rowdy rowdy piper mr wonderful paul orndorff
13:19wrestlemania we're gonna be ready for these guys the piper and orndorff and whoever else he got the
13:25broken arm mr t came in and it was just like are you kidding me it's hollywood it's wwe that's
13:30happening
13:30together this is like wow oh man that was he just so much he piper was so entertaining in this
13:37the heat was supposed to be i feel like between hogan and piper but it really was more with piper
13:43and mr t you're looking at someone that will take you and make nothing of you will take your life
13:50and not even think twice about it i have been brought up old old school one of the rules is
13:58this
13:59if you bring me somebody outside our business i'm gonna eat his lunch i don't care who he is
14:06if i don't he's gonna come in laugh go haha and go back out and tell him what a bunch
14:12of baloney we all
14:12are here you have roddy piper who has devoted time energy sacrifice to this craft and then there's the
14:23definition of the gate crasher mr t who is he this hollywood guy's coming in to our business and
14:33you feel this human nature need to to try to protect it or insulate it from the outside this
14:39is this thing i love i don't want people to ruin it or disrespect it you see this sport saved
14:52my life
14:54life literally and it gave me a family that i didn't have i was protecting every one of those
15:04people i was protecting the entire business for everybody t mr t we're supposed to call him mr are
15:11you rubbing me you knew that that heat was real i remember this interview where roddy piper approached
15:19mr t who was on the set well here i am on the a team of course i'm creeping up
15:24on the back of mr t i
15:26can tell you that because it's got it written right here on the back of your chair mr he's telling
15:31mr t what is it like to portray someone like me a legitimate badass how does it feel to be
15:39portraying
15:39someone like myself well you ain't nothing man oh you can see the two of them getting in each other's
15:46face cindy lava she happened to be my friend you call yourself tough because you you can punch on a
15:51lady here you are you shave your head on both sides she dies her orange what you're doing is you're
15:56supporting all these wonderful children now how can they look up to you when you're looking like
16:01that we're with long hair the children of american today must be sick now look i have felt the tension
16:10of piper that wasn't scripted you know you mess with me t i'll put an x on your name brother
16:16as a wrestling fan back then i couldn't wait for mr t to get in the ring to do something
16:30the barbaric mindset of piper and orndorff he's an actor he's not a wrestler we're just gonna break
16:35his legs this is exactly what you could end up booking like here and there would be no more a
16:41team
16:41no more nothing i've given you one more chance give it up guys please you guys cannot hurt him break
16:51his
16:51leg knock his teeth out i'm a street guy i'm a guy from the other side of the tracks i
16:58can hold my
16:59own i wasn't a powerful you really made me mad and they didn't get it at first you know just
17:04say
17:04he come in and make a mockery of our living so we're gonna try to brutalize him i guess they
17:08thought
17:09i was just some guy come in and not keep wrestling in a good light they didn't know that i
17:13used to
17:14really rouse on the high school they didn't know that i knew my stuff
17:24mean cheat on the scene paul cogan mr t mr wonderful paul orndorff roddy roddy piper
17:29wrestlemania coming up here for a training session that i cannot believe come on t for piper man
17:34that was the first rouse mania i said i got to get ready this ain't no joke i said my
17:39reputation is on the
17:40line come on you got a sick move man they have to find out that i wasn't just passing through
17:45wrestling that was legit i'm honored to be a part i'm honored to be with you guys i want to
17:50get a
17:51guy as they respect and they do are you ready let's do it do it slow with me come on
17:54of course
17:55roddy piper he's not looking at that only thing piper sees is a guy coming in trying to perhaps
18:02taking your spot they're out training you think in three miserable weeks you can get in good enough
18:08shape to take off all right baby all right we did it man we did it all right all right
18:13bro
18:16you saw that they were taking this very seriously like he needed to be in
18:19peak condition because especially if somebody's not a trained professional wrestler
18:25that's where things can really go awry but you also understand the historical significance of this
18:30first wrestlemania this thing doesn't work there's not wrestlemania 2. maybe not even wwe anymore
18:36that's right because we went into wrestlemania 1 i remember it was a fear that the whole company
18:42was going to go bust like wrestlemania 1 would be the one big show and it's a big flop turn
18:47it kind
18:48of kills the whole business our whole lives were on one this is what's either going to make us or
18:54break
18:54us the whole world knows about this man hulk hogan and mr t that's why we were on every single
19:01show
19:01every single program the schedule was relentless march 31st wrestlemania mr t hulk hogan running wild
19:07daddy hulkamania hypomania we are the dream team the best thing to ever happen to wrestle
19:14to host saturday night live was being anointed very few celebrities reached that level about 12 hours from
19:21now madison square garden wrestlemania that is you see mr t getting a lot of benefits and you're
19:29working just as hard and you're not getting as many benefits i think that there is some resentment
19:35it was personal
19:42when the very first wrestlemania came along hype was so high
19:48new york madison square garden it was electric tickets for sunday's sold out brawl at the garden
19:54have been going for as much as a hundred dollars a pop we were all excited about putting our best
19:59foot forward this is our opportunity to gain some more momentum everything was on the line that night at
20:05wrestlemania but then i get this crazy call screaming hogan hogan i was ready to have a nervous breakdown
20:19wrestlemania one hulk hogan and mr t versus roddy piper and mr wonderful paul orndar
20:25i was gonna get it it's such a big platform and of course it's really setting the tone for for
20:31so
20:32many wrestlemanias to come because at the time like you said it was the first one and fans typically
20:37will it's hard to accept someone from the outside and it's a big challenge for whoever the person is
20:43whatever however biggest celebrity you might be
20:47the day of wrestlemania i get this crazy call screaming hogan hogan mr t is downstairs and he's leaving
20:59there's like a spiral drive up to the garden i went running down the spiral and right when i got
21:05there
21:05it was this extra long white stretch limo mr t's got like 15 people he's hurting in the car we're
21:10out
21:10here i'm done i ain't wrestling mr t was so hard to do business with even the day of the
21:16garden mr t won
21:17two limousine for people frank sinatra does it but he doesn't he won't then i'll just leave you know
21:24doing that old baloney he was looking for a reason not to get in the ring basically he was getting
21:31cold
21:31feet i wasn't surprised eat my shorts i stopped the limo driver you're not going anywhere
21:47i said he's not getting out of my sight so i sat in a room with him for like three
21:53three and a half
21:53hours and man he was just soul searching there's a lot of distractions you know i'm trying to think
21:59about what i got to do everybody trying to calm me down it's all right just remember stuff we practice
22:03on don't forget your mood that you're supposed to do concentrate on that once we got out to the ring
22:09and that red light came on he was there welcome everyone the wrestling extravaganza of all-time
22:18wrestlemania the first wrestlemania it was electric first of all because there was no game
22:23plan there was no book nobody knew how we were going to get anywhere this was just a mega event
22:30it was all brand new so it all seemed like a spectacle
22:35one of the greatest baseball managers in history you got billy martin now you got the
22:40liberaji in the rock head man you got muhammad ali the greatest looking for mingness
22:48hulk hogan and roddy pipe this is the genesis of the first wrestlemania but the real life heat
22:55between piper and t look at the look on piper's face one of disdain and disgust this felt even more
23:03dangerous mr t and rowdy roddy piper nose to nose in the center of the ring hogan said man watch
23:10that
23:10guy man he's really mad oh slap across the face and a return slot by mr t slap me and
23:20i slap him back
23:20and he said don't hold back on me and i want to hold back on you
23:29i demanded that with t the only thing i'd do is amateur wrestling because i heard he was an amateur
23:35wrestler piper pushes their animosity and he told mr t pick me up in a fireman's carry
23:44piper's a total professional he wanted the match to be memorable
23:52and that was the photo that went all over the world look out pino in the wrong corner here comes
23:58the hook and all four of them are going out of the corner ace bob orton is getting into the
24:02ring
24:03cowboy bob order who's supposed to be piper's bodyguard scampers up the ropes
24:10his intended target is uh hulk hogan and uh in the lines of hitting mr wonderful and it ends in
24:17the most chaotic fashion the ending was for a lot of fans a bit unsatisfying there were a lot of
24:38different scenarios that were discussed for that match but there's no payoff for this whole rivalry
24:46between roddy piper and mr t we're left hungry we want to see what will ultimately happen when we do
24:54get roddy against t and so we set on a path where that happens just not exactly in the way
25:03people
25:04thought it would just when the wwf believes it knows all the answers the rowdy one changes the questions
25:11his latest bombshell is boxer bob orton bob orton of course was like the ne'er-do-well bad guy
25:18friend
25:18of roddy pipe we thought that we would put an open contract out for anybody who has ever had the
25:25wrestling trunks on it's a funny thing the boxing match at a wrestling show if you want to put the
25:31gloves on this is all you gotta do but again this was going to become something bigger you just gotta
25:38step up and say boo roddy piper he starts uh issuing you know open challenges who wants to get some
25:45of
25:45this yeah bozo visits the zoo my goodness are you kidding are you trying to tell me that you have
25:54come out here because you want to don the boxing gun are you Hulk Hogan shows up Hulk's not a
26:00boxer
26:00but guess who is i don't give a damn who's name you put on there you sign it he'll fight
26:06him
26:10mr t mr t mr t mr t if i could have your opinion t what you want fool don't
26:21just say i'm trying to
26:21work out trying to get ready you don't come interview anybody when they're working out now get that
26:24back and forth out of my face wait a minute now i was just trying to explain to our audience
26:27that
26:28you're going to be putting on the glove tonight against bob horton Hulk Hogan signs mr t up and
26:33everybody goes crazy now we have this match between cowboy bob horton and mr t what made more sense
26:40because he was a legit boxer come on you were going into a boxing match there's an element of danger
26:49there too that's still a performance but also this two physical worlds colliding
26:59of course mr t we all saw you in rocky three in rocky three with just a movie but this
27:03is for real
27:07what are you hiding your face for huh i went high in my face and all of that as they
27:12come to center
27:13ring now a nice spin round match up oh look what's that look what look what roddy just did
27:18now okay i'm going to bring it look at this amp might be very impressive mr t hammering away
27:24roddy pepper on the apron obviously he intentionally distracted the referee and look what happened
27:27behind the referee's back roddy with a round oh he hit orc mr t connects
27:45out cowboy bubbler here comes piper wait a minute that leads to an altercation
28:14and that leads into wrestlemania 2. standing by on the set of the a-team
28:21in los angeles california right now mr t that's right all you wrestling fans out there you've seen
28:26what happened to me on mars the first that's right so that means it's gonna be mr t and piper
28:30in wrestlemania 2. mr t and piper so you better wrestlemania 2 in 1986 they pitted myself against
28:39mr t in a boxing match i think the boxing thing plays for a couple of reasons we'd be remiss
28:48to not point out how big mr t's role was in rocky three you're tapping into this part of people's
28:54sort
28:55of collective subconscious that's like i've seen mr t be a badass boxer before at the same time
29:03piper is more of a fighter than a technical wrestler himself boxing is the perfect thing
29:19what's the response from mr t i'm gonna get my help from joe frazier who at the time is as
29:28iconic
29:28a figure in all of sports as anyone in the world don't stop me i got a rule going smoking
29:34you're
29:35gonna be smoking right bro right right smoking both of those guys had that intensity that fighting them
29:40to go out there and neither one of them was gonna back down he's got this vendetta because he could
29:45not
29:46get a hold of me last time in wrestlemania now he wants to box me this crazed idiot yeah hope
29:51you can
29:51see this here piper i'm wearing this little funny skirt that you've been wearing it's coming back to
29:55about the rubber chicken this is a chicken because piper is a chicken it was just so funny man after
30:01this fight i'll prove there's two things he can't do is act and fight i suppose we all know he
30:07can't
30:07act that's why there's nothing left to the a-team the a-team was starting to decline the show would
30:13be
30:13cancelled later on in 1986 so he was kind of saying things that seemed to be a little bit true
30:21you know why i'm talking to you because you got more brains than t does i don't think it could
30:26have gotten as heated as it did without having some real friction
30:31it was so much bad blood i didn't know what was going to happen the moment of truth is right
30:44around the corner are you ready yeah i'm ready for piper hope piper's ready for me
30:52right after tonight's rivals i'm counting on the best of the best on a new wwe's greatest moment
31:01hi everybody mean gene oakland here at wrestlemania 2 you can cut the electricity in the air
31:08i say this to you i say if mr t cannot be out in this fight right here i would
31:14not only quit
31:15professional boxing i would quit and retire professional wrestling i would quit dating girls
31:20it's time for the main event a scheduled 10 rounds of boxing in wrestlemania 2 now we box it
31:29first of all let me tell you people out there sir it's not my idea to be talking right before
31:32a big
31:33fight i don't like to do a lot of talking my fist gonna do the talking in the ring you
31:36know we can
31:36talk all day i don't know what i might do to pipe if i know it's gonna be getting hurt
31:39out there
31:43we hit the gloves on all right round one we was punching and whatnot so that's what we're gonna
31:50do roddy we get to throw jabs i remember roddy piper throwing the jab throwing the jab and piper
31:55always he was always good with his hands piper look at this and mr t uh you get hit one
32:00time the first
32:01thing you're gonna do is fire back t with a peekaboo look at this not getting hit the whole notion
32:07that anything can be completely and totally scripted is false
32:15they wanted me to do a particular spot that spot was mr t catches me with the left hook
32:22and i go out of the ring onto the floor i refused again to put him over but um i
32:31said okay just this
32:33spot so it's coming time for that spot i'm doing my job i'm doing what i need to do so
32:42i'm going bomb
32:43bomb bomb here comes the left hook oh right out of the ring right out of the ring
32:53the only thing is he missed
32:59he missed the left hook you idiot
33:06i'd rather you knock my teeth down my throat to hit me with a popcorn punch
33:16you idiot you idiot you idiot he's like real boxers don't know how to pull the punches
33:24but that never was my intention to hurt them or whatever you know
33:28doing everything possible to get piper back into the ring
33:34i know there's no playbook here but it's a lot more serious than everybody's saying i'm the only one
33:39in there i take the heat you know what there's not many guys that can hold the line
33:52never a sailor was made on a calm sea
33:56and i was brought up in such a stormy weather that i you can't make me back up you have
34:04to kill me
34:05both fighters aren't weary in this structure i got this idiot i'm trying to see what's going
34:11on i don't know what he's going to do nobody's telling me nothing nothing
34:17i was giving you my heart
34:21serious point of contention
34:25you can see piper holding on
34:31i have to imagine that they had some semblance of an idea of how it was going to go but
34:37did anybody know what was actually going on here you know it sort of seems like real chaos to some
34:44extent it can get dangerous in there if somebody doesn't really know what they're doing you get
34:49lost you're in the headlights yeah somebody's hurt yeah but there's also that like you never know what
34:53mr t is capable of now look at t over the corner of body piper there's no communication happened so
35:01i'm in the ring going what do you want me to do with this guy
35:06what if i just took him out
35:14we're getting around four
35:16uh-oh uh-oh i told you i told you
35:24okay if i just take this guy out without telling him what am i going to do i got my
35:31business on my
35:32shoulders there's a lot of rules and we'll never get to them all to go in there and snake them
35:37that's
35:38just as bad round four they're going punch for roundhouse punch
35:45oh and a right hand by piper my boy clearly it doesn't look like a real boxing match it actually
35:53resembles a real fight oh oh what a right hand by roddy piper and not mr t's mouth he's right
36:00out
36:00roddy did not want to be beaten by an actor everything he had worked so hard from
36:07a young team was now worldwide so this huge image he had built it just couldn't be taken down by
36:19some
36:19actor walking in the ring and arrived by piper and he left piper just says you know what i'm done
36:26boxing
36:27and it's a little more physical
36:41everyone jumps in the ring
36:45it turns into complete chaos
36:49ladies and gentlemen the decision as a result of a disqualification mr t
36:57and finally piper disqualified and i thought mr piper was bending and breaking the rules all the way
37:04through the matchup it's probably for me it's one of the matches i'm most ashamed of i think
37:13um i should have taken him out this is not mr t's fault by the way i don't care who
37:19you stick opposite
37:20of piper on this you're not going to have a good working boxing match to give a big payoff it
37:26just
37:26stuff like that just doesn't work yeah but while their match may not have been a five-star match
37:31they still i mean it just shows the drawing power of that rivalry that they had here we are like
37:37how
37:37many years later and we're talking about it so how can you say that it's not oh it wasn't a
37:41good match
37:41we're we're here talking about it brother like it's it's history and favorite memory
37:53here's the irony of the whole thing for two years roddy piper has done nothing but complain
38:00about outsider mr t trespassing on the sacred wrestling business
38:08but wait a second what does roddy piper end up doing he goes hollywood
38:18in uh 87 a director asked me if i would star in this next movie
38:25i got two kids another kid on the way what do i do
38:31i'll do a movie i have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and i'm all out of
38:39bubblegum the stars coming from hollywood coming in in the wrestling we we we're pushing that but
38:45wrestlers going into hollywood that's cool whether he ever actually sat down and wrote a handwritten
38:51thank you note to mr t to say mr t thank you for showing me the way to hollywood somehow
38:58i don't
38:58think that note was ever delivered with everything that transpired between these two guys you fast
39:09forward to wrestlemania 30 where mr t gets inducted into the hall of fame whose speech are you looking
39:17most forward to tonight uh mr t's i'm glad that he's getting inducted in the celebrity war uh that's
39:26good i am so happy to be here and to stand among the very best in wrestling
39:36a bunch of the original superstars that were in wrestlemania one were backstage you know something
39:42guys guys 30 years of wrestlemania's we need to bury this hatchet right now be men about it piper
39:49and then mr t offers his hand to roddy piper
39:57done
40:00i thought i was gonna die here again thank you why did you hit me so damn hard
40:10it showed that maybe there was finally this closure this ending this this piece and i feel like it
40:16just came full circle for this moment for the two of them to finally put their beefs at rest and
40:23have
40:24this moment me and piper we just hugged we shook hands and we talked we came together that day they
40:32bonded it's the first time piper goes man i'm sorry i was like oh mr t goes out i was
40:37pretty
40:38i was too and i i listened to the conversation it was like two guys that actually really made friends
40:44and brothers at that time
40:49roddy piper versus mr t we can easily call that the start of sports entertainment it's the beginning of a
40:57path there's another world to go to and mr t's involvement that was a critical part of all of it
41:08and i think it opened the door for when the rest of the world crosses over with the business we
41:13love
41:16this business owes a lot to that rivalry between hot rod roddy piper and mr t they did some special
41:23stuff together wrestlemania one and two were still huge moments in wrestling and that's something
41:28that even if you don't really get along with whoever you're partnered with wrestlemania it's a big
41:33moment to share with someone right what is going on ladies pandemonium their real life animosity it
41:39helped you know really sell that rivalry and set the tone for for wrestlemania's to come i don't know
41:44what i might do to piper but i know he's gonna be getting hurt out there it was just insane
41:48with nothing
41:49but excitement electricity and it sure worked mr t connects what a ride i can only say what a ride
41:55it was competitive and there was a whole bunch of bad watching i'll be glad to put an x for
42:01the key
42:01in i don't really give a damn man there's another day at the wwe
