00:04it's fantastic that the work Michael and the team have done in India look one of the things that we
00:09know is air quality is a problem air pollution is a problem but the public doesn't realize this and
00:15I hope there's no prime ministers or presidents in the room today but I think national governments
00:19are delayers whereas mayors and cities are doers we take action and so what we discovered Francine
00:27was actually air pollution you can't see it but each year across the globe more people die
00:34prematurely from air pollution than tobacco eight million people across the globe prematurely die
00:40from air pollution in London that figures between six thousand five hundred and eight thousand die
00:45prematurely because of air pollution children have stunted lungs forever adults have a whole host of
00:51health issues from dementia to cancer heart disease so we did France when I became mayor 2016 we spoke
00:58to our friends at Bloomberg Philanthropies and said look we think we need to educate Londoners about
01:05this thing people like Michael know about but the public doesn't so we installed air quality filters
01:10across London supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies to educate Londoners about how good about the air was
01:20on particular days we all know when there's a high pollen count nobody knows when there's a high air
01:26pollution count and that gave us permission Francine to take action and the action we took was to based
01:34upon the evidence first start the world's first clean air zone in London the ultra emission zone and then we
01:41rolled it out to the rest of London the world's largest clean air zone and just because I'm competitive
01:47I want to compete with Michael when I first became mayor we experts said it would take 200 years to
01:54bring the air in London within legal limits we did it in nine the prince of Wales is feeling more
02:01optimistic than ever about the planet's environmental future after evidence his earth shot prize finalists
