Warner Bros.' R-rated horror pic 'Doctor Sleep' — a sequel to Stephen King's 'The Shining' — should win the weekend box office race with a debut of $25 million or more.

00:00With the box office race coming up this weekend with multiple openings, it looks like
00:04Warner Bros.' R-rated horror pick, Dr. Sleep, is expected to come out on top.
00:09A sequel to Stephen King's The Shining and opening 39 years after that film hit theaters,
00:14Dr. Sleep, an adaptation of King's 2013 novel of the same name, is set decades after the
00:19events of The Shining and follows a grown-up Danny, played by Ewan McGregor, as he grapples
00:24with his psychic abilities and the trauma of the past. But the R-rated horror thriller isn't
00:28the only fresh offering to hit theaters over Veterans Day weekend. The holiday-themed
00:33romantic comedy Last Christmas is also coming out and tracking shows the film opening in
00:37the mid-teens, but the pic could overperform. From Universal and inspired by the George
00:43Michael song of the same name, Last Christmas stars Emilia Clarke as a troubled artist whose
00:47misfortunes start to change when a young man, played by Henry Golding, begins appearing
00:52in her life. The movie also stars Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh. Another weekend offering
00:56timed for Veterans Day is Roland Emmerich's big-budget World War II epic Midway. The film
01:02is currently tracking the launch in the low to mid-teens. The $100 million indie
01:06stars Patrick Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Nick Jonas, among others. The fourth new
01:10release of The Weeknd, which is Paramount and Molded Media's PG Family Friendly
01:14Playing With Fire, starring John Cena and Keegan-Michael Key, among others, is about a
01:18group of firefighters facing their most challenging job yet, babysitting. And finally at the
01:23specialty box office, Amazon Studios opens a critically acclaimed Honey Boy, an
01:27awards season contender written by and starring Shia LaBeouf in select theaters.
