00:14featuring a show-stopping performance from one of Hollywood's best.
00:17Janelle Monae kicked off the night in a Mr. Rogers-inspired cardigan for a rendition
00:22of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood paying tribute to the late TV icon.
00:26At one point the musician even sang directly to Tom Hanks,
00:29appropriately seen as the actor is nominated for best actor for his portrayal of Mr.

00:35And what's a show-stopping performance without a little outfit change?
00:39Monae, who also turned heads on the red carpet earlier in the night wearing a sparkling
00:42hooded gown by Ralph Lauren, switched out her cardigan number for a floral ensemble

00:52with an epic cameo from who else but Emmy-winning post-star Billy Porter.
00:56Monae had previously kept the details of her Oscars performance under wraps,
00:59however, she did tease to the New York Times that she was ready to light the stage on fire
01:04in honor of her hometown of Kansas City, Kansas, and light it up she sure did.
