Many CFA candidates believe that passing the CFA exam is enough to secure a job at a top multinational company.

The truth?

CFA opens doors—but it doesn't automatically get you hired.

While the CFA designation demonstrates strong financial knowledge, recruiters and hiring managers evaluate much more during interviews. Many candidates confidently discuss their CFA journey but struggle when asked to apply concepts, communicate ideas clearly, or demonstrate real-world problem-solving skills.

In this video, you'll learn exactly what interviewers look for beyond the CFA credential and how to position yourself as a hireable finance professional.

00:00This job is mine.
00:01Which level?
00:03As in?
00:04CFA level.
00:05Oh, level 3.
00:06Mine is level 1.
00:08Reject.
00:09Yes.
00:17How can they reject me?
00:19Reject.
00:19Yes.
00:24Rejected, right?
00:25No, running next week.
00:27How? You are at just level 1.
00:29If you are watching this and thinking,
00:31you have cleared the CFA exam
00:33and you'll easily clear the interview in a big MNC.
00:39Think again.
00:40It's not that easy.
00:41I'm going to be very direct here.
00:43CFA alone will not get you hired.
00:45And yeah, that might sound uncomfortable,
00:47but it's the truth.
00:49In this video, I'm going to break down
00:51what interviewers actually look for
00:53and how you can crack CFA interviews step by step.
00:56whether you're at level 1, level 2 or level 3.
01:00So when you walk into an interview,
01:02interviewers aren't impressed by the fact that you went through thousands of pages of curriculum
01:07or past three rigorous levels.
01:09What they actually care about is whether you can apply that knowledge in real-world work scenarios or not.
01:16Having the CFA charter on your resume gets you noticed for sure.
01:20It opens doors and puts you in the room.
01:23But once you're in that room, you need to prove you can execute.
01:28You need to show that you understand how to use what you've learned in actual job functions.
01:34And that's exactly where most candidates fall short.
01:37They rely too much on the credential itself
01:40and not enough on demonstrating practical competence.
01:44So here's what most people don't realize in almost every CFA-related interview.
01:49Interviewers are silently testing four key things about you.
01:54Number one, can you explain finance simply?
01:57Because if you can't break down something like valuation into plain language,
02:02it shows you don't truly understand it.
02:04Technical knowledge is important, but communication matters just as much.
02:10Number two, can you actually apply these concepts?
02:13They're looking for practical application, not memorized definitions.
02:17Demonstrate how you'd use CFA concepts in actual work scenarios.
02:22Number three, do you understand risk and ethics?
02:25This isn't just a checkbox.
02:27One wrong decision or ethical lapse in finance can cost millions.
02:32They need to know you think critically about consequences.
02:36And number four, are you actually employable?
02:38Your communication style, your confidence, your clarity,
02:42all of that matters way more than memorizing formulas.
02:46These are the things they're watching for, even if they don't say it out loud.
02:50Now, let's talk about how to actually prepare for these interviews
02:54because this is where most people completely mess up.
02:57The first thing you need to do is focus on three core areas.
03:01Valuation, financial statement analysis, and risk and ethics.
03:06Don't try to revise the entire CFA curriculum again.
03:09Interviews don't work like exams.
03:12They're testing depth in key areas, not coverage across everything.
03:16Next, prepare real examples that you can talk through.
03:20Have one valuation you've worked on, for example.
03:23One financial statement analysis.
03:25One ethical situation you've navigated or thought through.
03:28And listen, even if it's a dummy project or a case study you created yourself,
03:33that's completely fine.
03:34It just needs to be structured, it needs to be logical, and it needs to be believable.
03:39Now listen carefully here, because this matters a lot.
03:43If you've passed CFA Level 1, focus on your foundation.
03:47Say something like, I have strong basics in finance.
03:50Keep it simple and keep it honest.
03:52If you've passed CFA Level 2, highlight your analysis and valuation skills.
03:57Say, I can analyze companies, I can interpret financials, and I can build models.
04:02This is where you show you can actually do the work.
04:05And if you've passed CFA Level 3, emphasize your decision-making ability.
04:10Say, I understand portfolio risk, I understand asset allocation, and client objectives at the same time.
04:16At this level, you're talking strategy, not just execution.
04:20The same CFA, different positioning, and that's the key.
04:24So yeah, remember this one line.
04:26CFA helps you enter the room, but your clarity gets you the offer.
04:30Whether you're passed CFA Level 1, 2, or 3, Amarticus Learnings counselors offer free guidance on interviews,
04:37finding roles that match your level, and mapping out your career path.
04:41They'll show you what recruiters are really looking for, and help you connect your CFA progress
04:46to actual finance opportunities without the guesswork.
04:50Just fill out the form in the description and speak to them.
