00:05Last year, Netflix tied HBO and Emmy wins after earning more noms than any other TV outlet.
00:10But with so many high-caliber and popular shows, The Hollywood Reporter's awards columnist Scott Feinberg
00:15says the streaming giant has had to get creative to keep its projects out of each other's way
00:20when it comes to the Emmys.
00:21So let's take a look at what Netflix is bringing to the table this Emmy season.
00:25The crazy thing is, the streaming giant boasts one serious contender in nearly every category.
00:30And in some categories, so many that they could end up boxing one another out.
00:35Now, Netflix is still seeking its first drama, comedy or limited series Emmy victory.
00:40And this year, it will have a lot of shots. Among comedies, it has past nominees GLOW,
00:45Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Arrested Development, as well as Formidable Rookie's Russian Doll,
00:50Dead to Me, Afterlife and The Kaminsky Method, which won a Golden Globe.
00:55My job doesn't fulfill me anymore, and I just put my 45-year-old daughter in rehab.
01:00Dad! I don't want to be here!
01:03On the drama side, Netflix has former nominees Ozark and Orange is the New Black,
01:08as well as freshman shows Bodyguard and Sex Education.
01:11Among limited series, it has When They See Us, The Haunting of Hill House and Maniac.
01:15How many of your subjects have ended up catatonic?
01:18Zero. Roughly.
01:23My head doesn't work right.
01:25But that's not all. Then there's the Variety Special Pre-Recorded category,
01:29in which Netflix could snag four or even all five slots,
01:33having fielded standouts in filmed stand-up with the likes of Hannah Gadsby,
01:37Ellen DeGeneres and Adam Sandler, just to name a few.
01:40Plus concerts like Homecoming, a film by Beyoncé, Springsteen on Broadway,
01:44and Taylor Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour.
01:52Last year, Netflix had a similar plethora of awards-friendly content and a specific goal,
01:57to become the first network in 18 years to score more noms than HBO.
02:01And it did.
02:02But that's not to say that Netflix knocked HBO out of the game.
02:06At the end of the day, each took home 23 wins.
02:08However, Netflix learned how to run up the numbers by getting creative with category wiggle room,
02:13and as much as possible, it kept its own shows out of one another's way.
02:17And it is doing so again this year.
02:19For example, Comedians in Cars getting coffee, previously nominated in the Variety Talk category,
02:24is being pushed as an informational special.
02:27So it won't bump up against rookie Variety Talk series Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.
02:32And that's also for an easier path to a nom.
02:34Probably alongside the David Letterman interview show, My Guest Needs No Introduction,
02:39which is also evading the Variety Talk category.
02:42Meanwhile, Netflix has spread its mini-documentary contenders among the Doc Special, Doc Series,
02:46and exceptional merit in Doc filmmaking categories.
02:49For more ways Netflix is avoiding self-defeat this Emmy season,
