00:00Hi, I'm Blake Jenner, and I'm Jane Levy, and we are in studio with the Hollywood
00:11What if just
00:22I can't wait
00:30For quite some time so it's like our secrets like let out into the world when you guys first got
00:35the script
00:35What were some wow moments for you?
00:38when I first
00:39Read the script I was fascinated by the character of Anne Montgomery and I wanted to know why she
00:46chose this couple to screw with and
00:50Then and I wanted to know more much more
00:53But we only had one episode and then I had a meeting with Mike Kelly our creator
00:56And he gave me the arc of the whole season and there was a moment in our
01:02Meeting where I was like
01:05No
01:06And I was like no
01:08He's like yeah, I don't know if the viewers have gotten there yet, but
01:13Meeting with him he
01:16Was a very interesting intriguing person and I was really excited to tell this story because there's a wow moment
01:24And in every
01:26Storyline and I think in like every episode
01:29Okay, yeah, how about you yeah me?
01:32Well, I was just crazy about the whole thing when I when I first got the pilot episode
01:37I felt ready to binge every script like people are gonna feel watching this show
01:41But I took the same route I talked to Mike Kelly after we were done and he told me everything
01:47and I had the same
01:48Moment when I was talking to him, but what I what I latched on to was a lot of the
01:53dark cloud you know
01:54The dark cloud that follows Sean and a lot of a lot of the
01:58Demons from his past that kind of come back and visit him
02:00I don't want to spoil anything but there's like there's a few moments where he's like kind of crumbling at
02:04the seams when when
02:05He feels like the walls to his life are closing in and that's something I really was excited about playing
02:10now
02:11I was really curious now watching the series. I wanted to ask you at what point did you know the
02:16full story?
02:17You know did you know the full story going into filming or
02:20You know did that did you get bits and pieces as you were getting the script?
02:24I knew basically the whole story before we started shooting
02:27But we were getting the scripts as we were going along and I would text Blake if I stole hair
02:32and makeup script
02:33I never stole a hair and makeup and I would be like
02:36Did you read it? I snuck a peek and I know that this happens and this happens
02:39But for the most the broader story, I knew that I knew when we started you had us all fooled.
02:46I thought you didn't
02:47I
02:49Didn't keep
02:50She's that good. You're that good. Now you guys have great chemistry
02:54Tell me about meeting each other for the first time testing together. How'd that all go down? Well, uh
03:00I think we we both we were in
03:03You know, we got the roles after after clicking with Mike and waiting a week for everybody to sign off
03:08So thankfully it was a pretty it was a pretty clean way of getting to the job
03:11But I'd never met Jane before she'd never you know, obviously she'd never met me
03:16But we met up for for dinner one night and
03:20Had had a couple bottles of wine. We were joking. We're talking about
03:23one bottle of wine
03:26I forget but it was an amazing time
03:28We're talking about the show we're talking about each other getting to know each other and just how much
03:33How important this relationship between her and I you know our Lisa and Shawn was to the show we're like
03:38well these are you know?
03:39You want to care about this marriage you want to you want to see it all the way through and
03:43you want to hope the best for them
03:44So the most important thing we can do is kind of just be there to back each other and look
03:48out for each other and really make this
03:50The most real it can be yeah now like you play like this doting husband
03:56You know who's trying to be like the best man for his wife now
04:00How did you go about like getting into character? How did you you know?
04:05You're all sort of grappling with like a dark past. So how did you get in that headspace?
04:10Well, I would dance to the Backstreet Boys every morning to prepare
04:16Which did happen in an episode for the record
04:19No, I mean, I think it's a lot with you know, we all have have things in our past we're
04:23not proud of
04:24We all have doors, you know relationships that we kind of slam the door on
04:27So it's kind of just going from that that angle of my heart thinking that you've moved on from certain
04:33things
04:33And then the rude awakening to the fact that somebody knows your secrets and somebody knows
04:38Something that could that can tear everything you love, you know, from from your your your grip and and you
04:45know make you have to fight to survive
04:46So I was just trying to trying to trying to play from his heart, you know, obviously I feel like
04:51I feel like Lisa is his second chance at life in a lot of ways. So obviously he's gonna try
04:55to be
04:56Her rock just as much as she is that for him. Right, right now you bring up the Backstreet Boys
05:02I'm not gonna lie. That was one of my questions. Oh, yeah, what's the question? Stinking lootly
05:07Um, they played a part in the premiere
05:10Yeah, we're either of you into boy bands. Oh, yeah, I'll be honest
05:14In sync or Backstreet Boys declare it right now. Oh, I don't know. I like a lot of them. I
05:20mean you guys did you
05:20I was in the like more like weirder like just bare naked ladies count. There we go. Okay, then my
05:26first two
05:27CDs I bought at what was it called starts with a B that doesn't exist anymore
05:33Well, the what where you buy CDs with a B and books
05:38Borders books and music
05:40I went to Borders books and music
05:42In fourth grade and I bought a Beastie Boys CD and a bare naked lady CD CD and those were
05:49my first two
05:50Nice. Um, okay. Yeah, it's not in sync verb
05:53Yeah, okay. Well, I remember I guess by default the the first ones I heard was uh were in sync
05:58because my one of my aunts had the Christmas album
06:01Okay, yeah. So yeah, we were jamming out to that
06:03Can you sing us some of the in sync Christmas album? Bring it on
06:05I don't remember. What's one of the thing? I would totally
06:07Merry Christmas Happy Holidays. Oh, is it Merry Christmas
06:11Merry Christmas and happy holiday
06:15Yeah, there you go. There you go. Damn, you know, it's almost summer, but we're gonna sing Christmas songs. I
06:21love it
06:22uh, Renee Zellweger
06:24Uh, she plays, you know, this venture capitalist very dark dark character. What was it like working opposite an Oscar
06:33winner?
06:34Very cool
06:36Was it intimidating at all? Yes, definitely. Yeah, um, but she's really a kind welcoming person
06:42But I mean the scenes that we have together are basically intimidation scenes anyway, so she's
06:49So much fun to work with
06:52She's so great in this role playing a character. That's like the diametric opposite of herself or maybe this is
06:58the true Renee
06:59I'm kidding. Um
07:01I was thinking about that
07:02She's such like a sweet she is lady and then to see her in this role. Yeah, she's amazing. She's
07:08I she's
07:11She's the whole show. Yeah, I mean and Montgomery is it and um
07:15to
07:16Go back to what you were saying about like this couple's bond like Renee. I mean and
07:23Knows that that is the ultimate weakness and Lisa and she's there to like exploit that yeah and expose that
07:30to her
07:31That has nothing to do with Renee. Oh
07:33No, it's interesting because I was thinking is Renee's character a master manipulator
07:39Or were you two just getting more and more kind of desperate and kept falling into
07:45The scheme that's a good question. I think maybe a little bit of both
07:49But I think that she is a master manipulator money power and greed are you know big themes in this
07:55Um, what did you guys do with your first page big paycheck?
08:00I bought like a like a like a nice martha stewart
08:02Something x some other brand mattress. Do you still have it? I do absolutely
08:07It's still my I mean mattresses last like seven years, right?
08:11How long have I been acting eight years? I think I need a new mattress
08:15I uh, yeah, I bought like a popcorn machine
08:18And I bought I swear I bought a popcorn machine and I bought a projector to like project the dvds
08:22on the wall and stuff
08:24Yeah, I'm with you. I brought a dresser
08:27Oh, so you know practical trying to be an adult. Yeah, yeah
08:31Um, so kind of along those lines. How did you guys celebrate landing your first big roles?
08:36Other than buying mattresses
08:39And popcorn machines
08:40And popcorn machines
08:42I don't remember
08:42I don't remember
08:43Uh, well I was on the glee project
08:46So I remember I went home after that was all done
08:48I mean that was like my first like big window into like steady work being on glee
08:53So I went home and I remember dancing on the subject with my parents and then the second I told
08:58them how it all wrapped up
08:59My dad was like yes, and then we all kind of went out for dinner
09:03Sweet
09:04Yeah, that's a nice memory. Yeah, yeah looking uh throughout the series. Do you guys have a favorite episode?
09:10I think episode eight is my favorite episode
09:13Um, I loved doing seven seven for sean
09:16It was like a cool episode you get to really dive into his past in a really interesting way and
09:22you really you really see you know
09:24Everything hit the fan at that moment and you you're really
09:28Seeing his wheels turning on like hyperdrive so that was that was a really fun fun episode for me
09:33Um with this being an anthology
09:35Your showrunner Mike Kelly has said he'd like to bring back actors um to play different characters
09:40Do you guys kind of do you guys have a character in mind that you would like to play?
09:43Yeah, I'd like to play someone very very very bad
09:48You have it in you, huh?
09:52Yeah
09:54I do too. I want to play somebody completely different. I'd love to play like uh
09:59I don't know like something. Yes, I'd love to play a woman. I'd love to play um
10:03Like something some way different from sean like a like a drug addict or you know someone like on the
10:08on the
10:09Like just who's completely down in the gutter. That'd be cool. Yeah
10:12Uh, what's next on the horizon for you two
10:15Well, I have a couple things, but but they're like boiling and it's like whenever they actually come out. I'll
10:20be like
10:21Tweeting it and putting it out there, but right now and calling us calling and calling you guys coming back
10:25hanging out with you and saying it
10:26Please do I will please do
10:28I will
10:29um
10:29I'm
10:30Making a musical for NBC that will come out and next year called so he's extraordinary playlist
10:37Yeah, what point are you guys in the process right now?
10:40We shot a pilot a couple months ago and it got picked up the series like last week
10:44Which I'm very excited about and we are shooting the rest of the series in the fall
10:47Does that take place in san francisco and you guys did you guys shoot this show in san francisco?
