00:05Three of our favorite Game of Thrones actors were celebrating Emmy nominations Tuesday
00:09morning and managed to do it without the support of the team behind the show's awards campaign.
00:14Game of Thrones performers Alfie Allen, who played the beleaguered Theon Greyjoy, Gwendolyn
00:19Christie, who played the honorable Brienne of Tarth, and Candace Van Houten, who played
00:23the red woman herself, Melisandre, all got a nod from the Academy of Television Arts
00:28and Sciences, despite HBO confirming that it did not enter the trio for Emmy consideration.
00:33Instead, each of the performers, via their reps, went ahead and submitted themselves, picking
00:38up the $225 entry fee.
00:40Allen was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Christie was nominated for
00:44Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Van Houten was nominated for Best Guest Actress
00:49in a Drama Series.
00:50Now, it's true that it's not at all uncommon for long shot performers to be entered for
00:55Emmy consideration by their reps or themselves, but it is uncommon for those entries to result
00:59in nominations.
01:00HBO did enter Kit Harington in the Lead Actor race, Amelia Clarke in the Lead Actress race,
01:06Nicolaj Koster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage in the Supporting Actor race, and Lena Headey,
01:10Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams in the Supporting Actress race.
01:13All of them also wound up with nominations, helping HBO score a single-season record of 137 total
01:20noms, including a Drama Series record 32 for Thrones' final season.
01:24Game of Thrones has dozens of series regulars, so it wouldn't be feasible for HBO to enter
01:29all of them, so a cut-off had to be made somewhere.
01:31It's also likely that the pay cabler was concerned that pushing Allen and Christie in particular
01:36could potentially undercut the chances of the show's strongest contenders in their categories.
01:41It seems clear, though, that there are no hard feelings and that the nominated performers
01:44will receive the full HBO push moving forward.
