00:00My whole life, people had been asking me if I was going to be a racing driver like my dad.
00:04And there I was, within a point of winning the world championship.
00:13He said, I'm going to race in Formula One and I'm going to become a world champion.
00:17It started the day my dad died, Frost, Senna, Schumacher.
00:22I had a steep hill to climb, but I want to win.
00:26You would never get anyone getting to Formula One the way I did anymore.
00:32I didn't get into Formula One until I was in my thirties. It just won't happen.
00:36You go a particular route for some inexplicable motivation.
00:42You know, you people at a whim, you know,
00:46some people would argue they actually don't even consciously decide to do something.
00:50It's an unconscious decision every time. And then you think you thought it,
00:54well, actually, there's an unconscious urge to do things.
00:59So, you know, I started with motorbikes. I love bikes. I just went that way.
01:04And then, and then another thing came along and it was kind of like, well,
01:07it was sort of like bikes, but it was,
01:11it had a better chance of not breaking all your bones.
01:14So I thought maybe there's more longevity to this one.
01:19So I didn't really set out. I wasn't, I wasn't like Kimmy, you know,
01:24Antonelli who sort of dreamt and Lewis Hamilton,
01:26who dreamt of being an F1 driver since they were babies.
01:29You know, I, I, I was around Formula One as I grew up.
01:33For me, it was ordinary. It was normal. It wasn't something special at all.
01:37And my dad was a racing driver and all his mates were racing drivers.
01:40So I was actually looking for something different, but I ended up being world champion anyway.
01:47And David Hill exits the chicane and wins the Japanese Grand Prix.
01:53And I've got to stop because I've got a lump in my throat.
01:59What has been surprising to me, but very enriching in many ways,
02:05is, is enthusiastic people have for not only for Formula One, but they're this, you know,
02:11it's great to meet the fans who haven't had a chance to bump into me at a racetrack and stuff.
02:16And they, you know, they've all got stories about, you know,
02:19either they met my dad or they remember they, they came to a race or they, you know,
02:23they've got, they've got something to say, which is always, um, you know, very, very touching.
02:27So I, I quite like that at this, at this time, I, you know, when I was younger, you know,
02:32I would run away from fans, but, um, now I'm very, very delighted to meet them and, uh, and hear
02:38their story.
02:39Damon Hill is here.
02:56Damon Hill is here.
02:58That's a fantastic welcome.
02:59Thank you very much.
03:00And, uh, obviously I've got to start with a big question.
03:03Are you the Stig?
03:04Um, well, I'm glad you asked me that, Jeremy, because, um, I get asked that all the time and
03:08I keep saying, no, I'm not the Stig, but they won't, um, believe me.
03:11It's a big job, you know, they are, the jet lag alone is just horrendous.
03:16I mean, the time zone changes they do all year.
03:18That's, you have to be super fit to be able to cope with that.
03:21It's a challenge.
03:22And some, some of them fly back from races when they're in the time zone to go back to
03:27do some sim work in the, in the factory and then fly back again.
03:32So, yeah, it, it, you have to watch it.
03:35They have to plan to be able to give themselves enough time to compensate.
03:40I mean, the last leg was horrific.
03:43They had to go from Vegas to Qatar, which is a 12 hour time difference in a week, which is
03:51gruesome.
03:52Yeah.
03:53I crashed in Japan as I had a wave of jet lag just before I got in the car.
03:58Um, literally just standing in the garage and suddenly it went all woozy and started sweating
04:03and then we had to get in the car and drive and then it crashed.
04:08So, um, it's, it's, you're never going to get over it.
04:13I mean, jet lag is, it hits you at the wrong time every time.
04:20Thanks, if you-
04:20When you were reached, if you just get a piece of space, you got a handle on there.
04:20So, um, let's run because you, like, all this we gonna create with you and go outchy lines so
04:21as you, like, uh, you know, um, close to him and where you're from saying
