00:27But now the actress is walking back some of those claims.
00:30Serra tells the Sunday Times that she doesn't give interviews about the making of the movie because it was, quote,
00:35not that good of an experience.
00:37She says she doesn't want to disappoint fans, but admits she did not get along well with the film's director,
00:43John Hughes.
00:44Mia Serra says Hughes got frustrated with her on set and called him a strange guy.
00:48The legendary director made some of the most iconic movies of the 1980s, including The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, and
00:55Pretty in Pink, to name a few.
00:57Mia Serra said Hughes also wanted the cast to hang out with each other and watch French New Wave films.
01:02She says she was emotionally immature and couldn't deal with other people's egos.
01:06Mia Serra is also opening up about having a massive crush while filming Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
01:12She said she fell for her on-screen boyfriend, Matthew Broderick, who starred as Ferris.
01:16But she says the feelings were not mutual.
01:19She says Broderick was secretly dating Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey.
01:23She starred in the film as well, playing the role of Ferris Bueller's sister.
01:27Grey shared this famous scene with Charlie Sheen.
01:31Mia Serra says her acting career didn't make her happy.
01:34She left the industry to create poetry and has been published in established literary journals.
01:38Some of her work is inspired by her experiences in Hollywood.
01:42Serra admits that she lacked the resilience to deal with the audition process for actors.
01:47And while she says she's proud of her career, overall, she says it was not happy for her.
01:51A few years ago, Serra ended her overall decade break from acting to star in The Life of Chuck.
01:57She said the role came to be after she met director Mike Flanagan personally.
02:01The film had a star-packed cast that included Star Wars actor Mark Hamill,
02:05along with actors Tom Hiddleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
02:08And while Serra says she no longer keeps in touch with her Ferris Bueller's co-stars,
02:13Alan Ruck and Matthew Broderick are reuniting for an upcoming comedy.
02:17It marks their first on-screen project together since the 1986 classic,
02:21which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
