Local resident 'not surprised' after Ligue 2 football player drowns near Lyon

Local residents react on the banks of the Rhône River after a young Ligue 2 footballer became brain-dead after drowning in the waterway late yesterday afternoon, 22 June, in a no-swimming zone near Lyon. At the scene, Simbad, a Lyon resident who is a regular at the beach isn't surprised by the news. "I swim here quite often, and there are currents, there are whirlpools, so it doesn’t surprise me. It’s pretty rough. Someone who doesn’t know the spot can quite quickly be swept away by the currents."
