00:00It's over. They're all gone. Frank, it's time. It's time you say what happened.
00:09After The Irishman received five Golden Globes nominations, Netflix content
00:13chief Ted Sarandos is revealing just how many people have viewed the movie
00:16directed by Martin Scorsese. According to Sarandos, 26.4 million households have
00:21viewed the film starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino in its first
00:25week on Netflix. The executive, speaking at the UBS Global TMT conference on
00:30Tuesday, also predicted that the mob drama will reach an audience of 40 million
00:34households within its first 28 days.
00:37A friend of ours is having a little trouble. A friend at the top.
00:40Based on that number, it means about 16% of all Netflix global account holders
00:45watch the film in the week following its November 27th release. While that is a
00:49significant portion of the company's user base, especially for a three-and-a-half
00:53hour movie, it's still not as large of an audience as for Bird Box, starring
00:57Sandra Bullock, which drew 45 million viewers in its first seven days last
01:01December. Netflix's audience metric, which is not verified by a third party,
01:05counts a viewer as someone who watches at least 70% of a film. It also doesn't
01:09count multiple viewers using the same account. Netflix's disclosure comes after
01:13Nielsen previously reported that the three-and-a-half hour film drew an average
01:17U.S. audience of nearly 13.2 million viewers during its first five days, and had a total
01:23of 17.1 million unique viewers.
