00:00Are you bent out of shape?
00:01No! No! No Mitch McConnell! I am not bent out of shape. I'm in fine shape.
00:06Jon Stewart made it very clear that he is not bent out of shape while criticizing
00:10Mitch McConnell over the delay of the 9-11 Victim Compensation Fund extension
00:14during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night.
00:18Stewart has been very outspoken in recent weeks criticizing the senator for
00:21delaying the extension of an act that provides health care and services for 9-11
00:25first responders, a fund which expires next year. The former Daily Show host
00:29has repeatedly called out lawmakers for delaying the extension and the host even
00:33went so far as to appear on Fox News Sunday describing McConnell as the white whale
00:38of the issue since 2010. McConnell initially responded to the criticism saying he
00:42wasn't sure why Stewart was so bent out of shape. The senator denied that he was
00:46slow walking the issue and that the extension would pass when it came up for renewal.
00:50While on The Late Show, Stewart fired back at his response saying he was bent out of
00:54shape not for himself but for the first responders.
00:57These are the first heroes and veterans and victims of the great trillions of
01:03dollars war on terror and they're currently still suffering and dying and in
01:08terrible need. You know you would think that that would be enough to get
01:11Congress's attention but apparently it's not.
01:14Colbert then played a clip of McConnell suggesting that Congress was busy and
01:18Stewart was seeking attention.
01:19You know what Stephen, now I feel stupid. This is a huge misunderstanding. I didn't know that they were busy.
01:26Stewart went on to say that McConnell was essentially missing the point.
01:30Basically, we're saying you love the 9-11 community when they serve your political
01:33purposes but when they're in urgent need you slow walk. You use it as a political
01:37pawn to get other things you want. The host continued his plea that McConnell
01:41understand where they're coming from and to pass the bill as a standalone. But should
01:45McConnell still refuse to address the issue in a timely matter, Stewart shared some words
01:49of wisdom to the senator explaining that should a time of war or robbery or fire
01:53come and he ever needs to make that desperate call for help.
01:56Don't get bent out of shape if they show up at the last minute with fewer people than you
02:02thought were going to pay attention and don't actually put it out.
