Transcript
00:00Congratulations, director Bong Joon-ho.
00:02Hello, congratulations.
00:05I love your speech.
00:08You showed respect to the subtitle,
00:11foreign language film.
00:14When you start making movies,
00:17have you ever imagined the foreign language film award winner?
00:22And the second question is,
00:24last year, Korean cinema had a centennial celebration,
00:29and you made a big history,
00:31and this year, you added one.
00:33So, do you have any thought about
00:37Korean cinema new era?
00:53So, last year, it was the centennial of Korean cinema,
00:56and we had the great achievement at the Cannes Film Festival,
00:59and now, to mark the 101 year of Korean cinema,
01:04we received the Golden Globe Award,
01:06and I'm very happy to see these achievements year after year.
01:10And, when I came to the interviewer,
01:12I obviously had a lot of knowledge before,
01:16so I was
01:17specifically to mail the subtitle.
01:20I wanted to tell more about you about the amazing actors in this production,
01:26but the amazing actors in the studio,
01:30and the good actors in the studio,
01:39So earlier when I was giving this speech, things were so hectic, so I kept it short and mentioned the
01:44subtitle part.
01:45But it was a great joy working with such an amazing ensemble with actors Song and Lee who are here
01:50today.
01:51And I didn't get the chance to thank Barun Son CJ and Neon and all the companies that worked on
01:55this film.
01:56So I'm very glad to receive the opportunity to properly thank them here.
02:01One last question.
02:02Congratulations.
02:03Can certainly was an indication that this film would be internationally accepted and understood and loved.
02:10But I'm sure you couldn't have expected the kind of acceptance you've had in America from film critics from very
02:20knowledgeable people and lovers of a film.
02:24How has it affected you that America has fallen in love with your film?
02:40The film was released in the U.S. in October and had great box office results. I was very surprised
02:46but at the same time I thought it was very inevitable.
03:02This film is about the rich and poor and essentially about capitalism and the U.S. is the heart of
03:09capitalism. So I thought it was natural to gain such an explosive response.
03:34And while Parasite has these political social messages and themes, the reason why the story felt so familiar to the
03:41U.S. audience is, I think, thanks to the incredible
03:44charm that these actors have.
03:47Closed Captions determined.
03:47So, thank you.
03:53Now welcome.
