The impressive drama narrates the story of Heidar who loses a bet which means he had to steal some items from a mansion belonging to a princess of the previous Qajar dynasty that has been overthrown by the new ruler, Reza Pahlavi. When Heidar meets the princess, he falls for her and pops the question. To avoid marrying him, the princess sets a condition she is sure he will meet. She tells Heidar that he has to organize and perform in a 10-night passion play banned by the Pahlavi regime. It's called Ta'zieh, and it's the story of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions which is played during the month of Muharram. Heidar decides to play Russian roulette by accepting the challenge which landed him in more trouble than he may be able to handle. He launches the passion play and everything goes well until the ninth night, while on the 10th night something unexpected happens.

00:13This has gone cold, dear.
00:17Hello to you, my dear sister.
00:19Has something bad happened?
00:21What can I say?
00:23How can you be so calm?
00:26I thought you were a man of God.
00:28I thought you were a teacher, a mentor.
00:31A man who has guided so many to follow the right path.
00:36I came and asked for your help.
00:38I came for you to guide him,
00:39so he'd stop listening to the devil and give up his foolish plans.
00:42But then I heard that you actually held a gathering for him.
00:47Didn't you think what would happen to me?
00:50That's fine.
00:51You don't have to care.
00:53But at least you could have at least honored your friendship with his father.
00:57His father's rolling over in his grave because of that kid.
01:00Thank you, Mr. Godrat.
01:02Thanks a lot.
01:04Mrs. Marzier, drink this tea.
01:07You must be thirsty.
01:08Come on, drink it.
01:09Don't worry so much.
01:11God is with them.
01:12Listen, sister.
01:13I swear that the only reason that I even got mixed up in this whole business
01:18is because your late husband,
01:21Moinol Bacca, may God rest his soul,
01:23was very kind to me all the time I knew him.
01:27Sister, I don't know who the girl is or what she's made of,
01:30but irregardless of who she is,
01:33your son loves her,
01:35and that hasn't been a bad thing.
01:37Yes, I can see that.
01:39He has suddenly become very wise,
01:42and now he wants to start the Tazier.
01:47It's no mean feat what her love has done for him.
01:51Sister, believe me when I tell you he's become a different person.
01:55He's made a very bold decision
01:57to preserve the Tazier of Imam Hussein.
02:00He's changed a lot.
02:02Well, yes, of course he has changed,
02:05but the changes that have happened to him
02:07might burn all those around him.
02:09I'm already near my death now.
02:11It doesn't matter.
02:13But tell me,
02:14what about that poor young motherless girl, Rafat?
02:18Tell me, what wrong has she done?
02:20After all these years,
02:22God willing,
02:23she was finally going to get married to Mr. Yavar
02:25after more ramen so far.
02:27What if something happens to Mr. Yavar?
02:32Or the Tazier reciters?
02:34Or even you?
02:36This woman?
02:38Those children?
02:40What have they done to deserve this?
02:55The people that you have referred to
02:58are all in their own way
03:01loyal subjects of love.
03:03But love has consequences,
03:06and they are not always to our liking, sister.
03:09And the blood of your son
03:10is no different than the blood
03:13of all the other youths of this country, sister.
03:17For example,
03:19the poor brother of Mr. Yavar.
03:21The mothers of those youth
03:22whose sons have died,
03:24at least they know that their children
03:26have martyred themselves,
03:28that they've died for a good and worthy cause.
03:30But what about my crazy half-wit son?
03:32What about him?
03:34What is he going to die for?
03:37He is going to die
03:38for the love of some Kajar girl,
03:41who God knows what's driving her
03:43to get my son,
03:44and to get all those people
03:46who are helping him
03:47into very big trouble.
03:49May it be the love of one's country,
03:53or the love of a Kajar girl.
03:56What's the difference?
03:58The important thing
03:59is the purity of that love,
04:01which can only be measured
04:02by how it changes the person
04:04in love with the other.
04:08Haydar isn't only important to you,
04:10Miss Marziere.
04:13He's also very dear
04:14and important to me.
04:19Over the course
04:20of the last several weeks,
04:22whether you've noticed it or not,
04:24your son has changed a lot.
04:25This is very important to me.
04:27But what's even more important
04:29is that we don't even know
04:30if the girl has asked him to do this.
04:33You mean,
04:34my son hasn't told you
04:36why he wants to hold
04:37a Tazier this year?
04:40No.
04:46But I don't understand why, Major.
04:48If I recall,
04:49it was just a few weeks ago
04:50that I presented to you
04:51a full report about him.
04:53Yes, yes.
04:54And it was quite a good report.
04:56You are too kind, sir.
04:57Way too kind.
04:58And if I recall
04:59the contents of that report
05:01referred to someone
05:01called Haydar Ghoshmaran.
05:04By monitoring his activities,
05:06we might be able to finally
05:08unravel this complicated case
05:10and bring the culprit to justice.
05:12And that will be
05:13our next objective.
05:15Very well then, sir.
05:17If you see fit,
05:17I will personally observe
05:19his activities.
05:20No, no, Captain.
05:21You and I are very well known
05:23as policemen.
05:25Most of the criminals
05:26who have set foot in this place
05:28know us by sight.
05:29Many of them surround Haydar himself.
05:33I think the employment
05:35of a private detective
05:36will serve better here,
05:37and you should follow
05:38the suspect morning till night.
05:40And also,
05:41don't forget to take care of
05:43today's reports.
05:43That's very important.
05:45Whatever you order,
05:46Major, sir.
06:23Please, sir, please.
06:25Please.
06:28Please.
06:56Good day, madam.
06:58You can go,
06:59Eterom.
07:05They told me that you had
07:07an important matter
07:08to discuss with me.
07:10Don't tell me you finally
07:12come to your senses
07:13and changed your mind.
07:15No.
07:16In some matters,
07:17a person doesn't rely
07:18on using their senses.
07:20However much I keep
07:21trying to tell myself,
07:23don't let your heart be a fool.
07:25it will only lead you
07:26to getting yourself
07:26in trouble.
07:28There's no way
07:28my heart will let me
07:30pay any attention at all.
07:33Now, where the root
07:34of the problem is,
07:35I'll have to go see
07:36my mentor
07:36and ask him about it.
07:39The reason I've come today
07:40is to tell you that
07:42tomorrow is the first night
07:43of Mohara, men,
07:44and your wishes
07:45will be carried out.
07:48As the lady princess
07:49told you,
07:50we will send a servant
07:51to make sure
07:52of the proper holding
07:53of Tazia,
07:54because you see,
07:55it's very important,
07:56so the servants
07:57who are watching
07:58the Tazia,
07:59they will come
08:00each and every night.
08:01That's right.
08:03And that is exactly
08:05why I gave the address
08:07of tomorrow's Tazia
08:09directly to Miss Eterom.
08:12And you can...
08:14And you can rest assured
08:15that Hadar,
08:16he always keeps
08:18his promises.
08:21I've come today
08:22to make sure
08:26that you will keep
08:27your promises as well.
08:28A person who has
08:29Kajar blood
08:30in their veins, sir,
08:33always keeps
08:34their given word.
08:36Good day to you,
08:36ma'am.
08:41Even though
08:42you are just a peasant
08:44and you have
08:45no education whatsoever,
08:47I would have thought
08:47that you at least
08:48knew this about
08:49a family
08:49who has ruled
08:50the Empire of Iran
08:52for more than
08:53200 years.
08:56Pardon me,
08:56but you who seem
08:58to know history
08:59so well
09:00must know
09:01that so much wrong
09:02has been done
09:02to us peasants.
09:04And that's why
09:05we don't trust
09:06those who rule us
09:07so easily.
09:08It's hard for us
09:09to trust any such promise
09:10so easily.
09:13You mean to say
09:14you don't trust me
09:15as well?
09:16No, uh,
09:17no, your word is like,
09:18uh, it's like the
09:19word of God for me.
09:21I have to believe it.
09:24Don't be a hypocrite.
09:29Say what you want
09:30to say.
09:32Hadar might be polite,
09:34but he isn't a hypocrite.
09:35Well then,
09:36if you have something
09:37in your heart
09:37you want to say,
09:38go ahead and say it.
09:41Well, the truth is
09:42that sometimes
09:42I wish that
09:44that your niece
09:45was but a peasant
09:46just like me,
09:47you know.
09:48I mean,
09:48I think that way.
09:50I can't help
09:51thinking that maybe
09:52we had a better chance
09:53of being happy.
09:56There's no denying it
09:57that it would be
09:57much easier for me
09:59to reach what
10:00my heart desires.
10:03That is strange.
10:05In all the romantic stories
10:06I have heard and read,
10:07it has always been
10:08the opposite.
10:10A true lover
10:11always wishes only
10:12the very best
10:13for his beloved
10:14paramour,
10:15and you know that.
10:18however you,
10:19my dear young man,
10:20wish your bride
10:21to lower herself
10:23to your level.
10:25Look here,
10:26my dear.
10:27No man can stand
10:29to see his wife
10:30be on a higher level
10:31than he himself.
10:37If you have nothing
10:39else to say,
10:40you can leave now.
10:42I just,
10:42I just have one question.
10:44Yes.
10:46Pardon me, madam.
10:47The question is not for you.
11:00Ask your question.
11:03I don't mean to pry,
11:05but the truth is that
11:07I just wanted to know
11:08that out of all
11:09the possible conditions
11:10you could have given me,
11:12I mean,
11:13why did you choose
11:14one that no one
11:14could have possibly imagined?
11:18As I explained to you
11:19before,
11:21it's part of a vow.
11:23Yes.
11:25But you never said
11:26what vow.
11:32What difference does it make
11:34to you?
11:36Well,
11:39well,
11:39whatever you wish.
11:43Goodbye.
11:44Bye-bye.
11:52Bye-bye.
12:07Bye-bye.
12:19Come here. Come on. Come here. Go.
12:21You take this. Come on. Come here. Take this.
12:24There you go. Come on. This is for you.
12:27Yeah. You take this. Come on. Hurry. Hurry. Next.
12:30You take this. This is for you. Come on. Hurry.
12:33Let's go. Let's go. Let's move. Come on. Come here.
12:36Hey, be careful. Look out for the police. Keep a lookout.
12:38Go on. Be careful.
12:39Be careful.
12:41Hey, Yavar.
12:42Yeah, Ali. Godspeed. Don't make a lot of noise.
12:46What is it? What's going on?
12:48Come on. Hurry it up. Hurry it up.
12:54What is it?
12:55I know this might not be a good time to say this, Yavar.
12:59But, uh...
13:00But it's still not too late for you, you know?
13:02What's not too late?
13:04Look here, Yavar.
13:05You promised Mizrafat a wedding after Moharam and Safar.
13:10And I don't want to, you know, God forbid, make you have to break your own promise.
13:15That's kind of you, you know.
13:17Why didn't you just stab me in the heart with this knife and get it over with then?
13:22Please, for the love of your deceased brother, don't be shy, huh?
13:25If it's not right for you to do this, just say no.
13:28Don't go too fast.
13:30If I am shy with anyone else, at least it's not with you.
13:34As far as Yavar knows, you have proved your friendship in times when a friend needs help.
13:39Come on, we gotta hurry here.
13:40We will either both see this through to the end, my friend, or neither of us will.
13:45It's for you.
13:46You take this.
13:47Also, you know, that even if it wasn't my sentence, I still wouldn't...
13:52I would never say no to you.
13:55I also want to strike a blow at the government for taking my brother away from me forever.
14:00Hurry up, come on.
14:02Faster, faster, faster.
14:04Yes, yes.
14:05Moving as fast as I can, too.
