00:00Hold me in your arms, don't let me go, I want you to stay forever, nicer each day, home and
00:13away.
00:17I fly out tomorrow afternoon and I promise I'll call you the moment I land in Cyprus.
00:22But you can't walk out like this.
00:26Hi Dad.
00:26I'm not surprised you've had some trying times with your mother.
00:30But things between us seem a bit better now, which is good.
00:33She's had a stroke, she's in hospital.
00:35She's going to feel alright, isn't she?
00:37Well, she's unconscious. Her doctors say the next 24 hours are critical.
00:41Oh God.
00:42Oh, Mel.
01:00Tony?
01:03Are you sure you're going to be alright to drive back to the hospital?
01:05I'll take you, Christine.
01:07Oh, thanks for the offer. No, we'll be fine. Thanks.
01:10All right, I'm all set. Let's go.
01:12Hello?
01:13Yes, it is.
01:15No, what's happened?
01:17Oh.
01:19I see.
01:20And what's happened?
01:21No, no.
01:22No, well, um, look, I understand.
01:24We'll be there as soon as we can.
01:27Yes, thank you.
01:29Has Grandma got worse?
01:33Yes, she's had another stroke.
01:34Well, come on, let's go. Let's get there now.
01:36No, it's too late.
01:39She's passed away.
01:43I'm so sorry.
01:45Oh, Mel.
01:49No, Mel.
01:51All I was after was some time alone.
01:54Time to think.
01:55What? You can't think here.
01:57Well, everything is just so up in the air.
01:59I need a break away from here.
02:00My life isn't exactly panning out the way I want it to,
02:03but you don't see me jumping on a plane for Europe, do you?
02:08Look, I think we should talk about this in the morning.
02:11Oh, avoidance tactics.
02:12You're really big on those, aren't you?
02:14I think Bubba's right.
02:16Let's just get some sleep.
02:18Why don't you at least postpone your flight, Dad?
02:20That way we don't have to have that hanging over our heads when we talk.
02:23Sounds like a very good idea to me.
02:25All right?
02:25Yeah, okay.
02:32Tony, there you are.
02:34I feel worried sick.
02:35Why didn't you answer your phone?
02:38Sorry, Raj.
02:40Where did you get to at this time of night, eh?
02:43I just needed a bit of air.
02:46Have you been drinking?
02:49Yeah, a couple of beers.
02:52What's wrong?
02:53What's the matter?
02:59Lucas called.
03:00I had to tell him about Jack.
03:03Oh, my God.
03:04I'm so sorry.
03:06I didn't even hear the phone ring.
03:08That's all right, Raj.
03:08You're asleep.
03:14Well, how did he take it?
03:15It must have been in shock, the poor kid.
03:18You can hardly speak, Raj.
03:21Jack's his big brother.
03:22This sort of thing's not supposed to happen.
03:25So he's coming home, I take it?
03:29No.
03:29Not yet, anyway.
03:32He's still over there with his girlfriend.
03:34In a way, it's probably good he's not going to rush back.
03:37You know, he's just going to get flooded with sad memories.
03:40I suppose so.
03:42At least he's not over there by himself.
03:47Tony.
03:49Raj.
03:51I think I've kept you up long enough.
03:52Maybe we should just go to bed, eh?
04:04A little heavy on the aftershave today, Trey.
04:07Trying to make a good impression, are we?
04:08That's obviously working if you're taking this much notice.
04:11Well, I hate to break it to you, but it's not about how good you smell.
04:14It's about the ideas that you're meant to be bringing to this meeting.
04:17Which is why I'll be walking out for you today the winner.
04:19Sounding pretty confident.
04:20Just wait and see why.
04:22Yeah.
04:23Yeah.
04:23I mean, apparently you're wasting your time with the presentation.
04:26Trey's already declared himself the winner.
04:28He was totally flirting with you there.
04:30So?
04:30He's just being an idiot, Geoff.
04:32That's what he's like.
04:34Yeah.
04:35I'm going to read over my notes now.
04:38Melody, that's terrible news.
04:40Yes, it is.
04:41So Miles probably won't be in today.
04:43He said to say sorry.
04:45He knows how important this is.
04:46Oh, no, I totally understand.
04:47He should be at home with Melody.
04:50Oh, hey, excuse me for a minute.
04:52Sure.
04:52Hey, I know you guys are coming today.
04:54Oh, darling, we all love Dan.
04:56This is a very important day.
04:58I just want to be here for you.
05:00And don't worry.
05:01I've told them both that they have to stay in their respective corners.
05:03Okay, well, thank you.
05:07Hey, Geoff, what's the chill-out room?
05:09Oh, it's a room where kids can go and hang out.
05:11You know, get away from things.
05:13Well, like the den.
05:16Well, no.
05:18It kind of sounds like it.
05:19Well, yeah, but this is here.
05:21It's at school.
05:22Don't worry.
05:23I think it sounds really cool.
05:25Okay, everyone, if you could take your seats, please.
05:27Let's make a start.
05:32I think we all know why we're here today.
05:34Dan Baker was a much-loved and respected school counsellor.
05:38He was popular and dedicated to his students.
05:41This is about honouring his memory.
05:44I'd like to welcome Leah Patterson-Baker
05:46and members of her family who are with us today.
05:49And thank you, everyone.
05:51We can't wait to hear all your ideas.
05:53Yes, and I'd like to thank students who've prepared presentations.
05:57The best project will be funded by the Dan Baker Memorial Trust.
06:01So, without further ado, let's begin.
06:08Hey, I was thinking we could both do a bit of cheering up at the moment.
06:11How about we do a bit of shopping for the baby?
06:13There's a place in Yabby Creek that's actually having a sale.
06:15We could start road testing some prams.
06:17I think I've been fairly restrained thus far.
06:19Maybe it's time we let loose.
06:22Uh, Rach, I'm not really in the mood for crowds today.
06:34I know, it must have been hard telling Lucas about Jack.
06:40Yeah, we're not really supposed to outlive our kids, are we?
06:47Are you disappointed that Lucas isn't coming home?
06:52Oh, no, that's really his call.
06:54If he needs to stay in India, then...
07:00You're just such a mess, Rach, you know?
07:04And how are you?
07:05Hey?
07:07I know that might sound like a silly question, Tony.
07:10I just wish you'd talk to me.
07:12Let me in.
07:14I don't want to put any extra pressure on you.
07:18But I just feel like there's so much distance between us at the moment.
07:21You know what?
07:22No amount of talking is going to bring Jack back, isn't it?
07:25Or fix things.
07:26Tony, it would help me to understand what you're feeling.
07:29Well, you want to know how I feel?
07:30I feel dead, Rachel.
07:32I feel completely dead inside.
07:33That's how it is.
07:34You know, and I know you want to help me,
07:36but there's actually nothing you can do.
07:38I'm sorry.
07:50Mr. Baker respected our students as people.
07:52He respected our ideas and our space.
07:55The chill-out room encompasses all that
07:56and I think would make a fitting tribute
07:58to everything that Mr. Baker did for us.
08:06That was great.
08:09Thank you, Geoff.
08:10You've obviously put a lot of thought into that idea.
08:12One more presentation to go.
08:14Trey Palmer, you're up.
08:21Being new here, I never got to meet Mr. Baker.
08:24But from everything I've heard, I really wish I had.
08:28Because if there's one thing everyone here seems to agree on,
08:30it's that Mr. Baker rocked.
08:32Now, seriously, how often do you hear students say about a teacher?
08:35No offence, sir.
08:38I'm taking a train.
08:39So I figure whatever we do, it needs to be seriously off the hook.
08:43Otherwise, it'd just be an insult.
08:45My idea is for an annual weekend-long trek,
08:48sort of like the Concordia Trail, but here in Australia.
08:52We'd go away and do it together.
08:53It'd be really hard and there'd be heaps of teamwork involved.
08:57I'm told that if you ever had a problem, Mr. Baker would tell you to break it all down and
09:01take it one step at a time.
09:03Accept that part of the solution's going to be hard, expect a few things to go wrong along the way,
09:08but to always remember that the harder the challenge, the bigger the triumph.
09:12And that's what it'd be like with this trek.
09:14I mean, we'd go away and by the end of the weekend realise that if you apply yourself and never
09:19give up,
09:20you can achieve anything.
09:22That's why I believe that this idea isn't just a great way to remember Mr. Baker.
09:26I think it'd be true to the spirit you live by.
09:29That's it.
09:37And that was the last of the presentations, so now it's time to consider them.
09:41If you'd like to rejoin us after lunch, hopefully we'll have a decision for you.
09:46So what'd you think?
09:47I guess you didn't suck as badly as I thought you would.
09:55It must be so much worse for Mum.
09:58Maybe I should go with it at the funeral.
10:01You know, if you want my opinion, I don't think that's such a bad idea.
10:04Your mum could certainly use the support.
10:07You'd only miss a few days of school.
10:10I'll talk to the principal.
10:11It'll be fine.
10:13Are you sure?
10:13Of course.
10:15I'll be back.
10:19You would come back, though, wouldn't you?
10:21Yeah.
10:23Well, I don't want Mum to be on her own when she's just lost her mother,
10:27but the thought of living with her again...
10:32I don't know, Annie.
10:35I just feel like so much has changed over the past few weeks.
10:39Me, her, and now Grandma dying.
10:43Part of me really does just want to go and live with her,
10:46but the other part of me is still so scared.
10:55And then I think about Miles and everything he's done for me.
10:59I can't just walk away from that.
11:02All you said last week was right.
11:04It would be a big risk, and I don't think that I...
11:07Maybe it's one that you should take.
11:10Yes, I'm really worried about you,
11:12but everything you say is true.
11:15What if this is the big chance for you to patch things up with your mum
11:19if you don't stay with her and give her a chance than how we ever know?
11:29Oh, that's so adorable.
11:31I like it.
11:34Tony, look at this.
11:35Isn't it gorgeous?
11:37Yeah, it's nice.
11:40Um, do you want some lunch?
11:42I'm just about to make some for Martha and I.
11:44Uh, no, I'm right, thanks.
11:49Uh, listen, I might be a little bit late tonight, too.
11:52That's okay.
11:53I'm gonna be working.
11:54So, um, what, are you staying late at the gym?
11:57Uh, no, that was Alfie.
11:59He wants to catch up for a drink.
12:00Don't tell me my grandfather's finally entered the 21st century.
12:03I've been trying to teach him how to text for ages.
12:07Well, what can I say, eh?
12:08Maybe it's finally sunk in.
12:13So you like it?
12:14Good.
12:16I think it's the fairest way.
12:18I think it's the only choice.
12:19Hmm?
12:20Yep.
12:20Okay.
12:23Okay, everyone.
12:25I know you're all eager to hear the decision, but first I'd like to thank all of you for participating.
12:29Mrs. Patterson-Baker and I were just saying, this has been a very difficult decision to make.
12:34Mm, all your presentations were truly wonderful.
12:37Dan would be so proud of all of you.
12:38However, we can only choose one.
12:40And the problem is that there are two ideas which really stand out.
12:43The chill-out room idea from Jeff Campbell, and Trey Palmer's idea for an annual trek.
12:48In fact, because the choice was so hard, we have decided there should be a vote.
12:52And it's gonna be your choice, not ours.
12:54That's what Dan would have done.
12:55He would have handed over to you to make a decision for the students, by the students, rather than forcing
13:00something upon you.
13:02So, let's have a show of hands.
13:04All those in favour of the chill-out room.
13:10Okay?
13:11And who's for the annual trek?
13:17You wouldn't believe it, it's a tie.
13:19Oh, hang on, that's not possible.
13:20We don't have even numbers.
13:21Who hasn't voted?
13:22Me, sir.
13:24I guess I really like both ideas.
13:26Oh, you can't sit on the fence, Nicole.
13:28You have to make your mind up.
13:31Well, what's it going to be?
13:33The trek, sir.
13:35Congratulations, Trey.
13:36We have a winner.
13:43Dan will be so proud.
13:45And so am I, just knowing that he's gonna be remembered this way.
13:48So thank you, everyone, for being part of it.
13:57I'm so glad you've decided to come, sweetheart.
14:00It means everything to me.
14:01It's okay.
14:02And I promise, I'll have you right back on the very first plane.
14:06I've changed my flight to the morning so that Mum can be transported with me.
14:11Do you know how long he'll be gone for?
14:14No.
14:16In fact, I'm half thinking of staying there indefinitely.
14:21Mum's house is so old and beautiful.
14:24And really, there's just so much to sort out.
14:28It could take forever.
14:30Miles, I may not have a chance to say this again, and I really want to.
14:37I just want to say thank you for everything you've done for Mel.
14:42There aren't many people who would take someone else's child in,
14:47give them a home,
14:48and treat them with so much love and devotion.
14:52I realise now how badly I misjudged you.
14:57I'm really sorry for that.
14:59You know, Christine, your daughter's a very special person.
15:03And taking her in was not a hard decision to make.
15:06You must be very proud of her.
15:08Always was.
15:11Actually, I have got your ticket print out.
15:20I won't be needing a return ticket.
15:26Unless you're coming back too.
15:31What are you saying?
15:32I want to come and live with you.
15:35Over there, back here, wherever.
15:52I wasn't choosing him over you.
15:54I was voting for the idea that I thought was best.
15:56Right, an idea from a guy who didn't even know Dan over someone who did.
15:59I'm not saying that your idea is bad.
16:01You voted against it.
16:02Yeah, because I had to put my personal feelings aside and vote for the idea that I thought was best.
16:07Isn't that what good leaders do?
16:09Look, Geoff, the annual trek, it's a good idea.
16:11And let's get real, it's something you'd want to do.
16:14It didn't really look like you were making much of a leadership decision.
16:17Seem more concerned about impressing Trey.
16:18What, you think I voted for him as a way of cracking on to it?
16:22I was wondering where you guys were.
16:23Come on.
16:24Melody has to get to the airport.
16:27Is she going to see her mum off?
16:28No, she's going with her to New Zealand.
16:35Hopefully I won't be too late, but I guess it's not really going to matter.
16:38You'll be hitting the turps with Alf.
16:40Oh, we won't be overdoing it, I promise you.
16:44You know what, I've got to go.
16:45See you.
16:58Tony?
17:00Tony, your phone!
17:03Tony!
17:12Hey!
17:15It's a nice sign of injuries, it's encouraging!
17:18Kids, there's something we want to tell you.
17:20Before you do, I just want you to know that whatever you guys decide to do,
17:24if you're going to go your separate ways,
17:26I want you to know that I'm here to support you both.
17:28You're a family and I love you, but you're your own people.
17:31And I realise that not everything works out the way you expect it to.
17:35Leah, we're not going our separate ways.
17:38But we're not making any promises either, we've got a lot of work to do.
17:42So you're getting back together?
17:43Well, we're not going to throw it all away, if that's one way of putting it.
17:46Oh, Mum, that is fantastic.
17:48No promises, honey.
17:49Yeah, but just the fact that you're willing to give it a go.
17:51No!
17:51Well, the students and the way Dan was taken from us so young,
17:56it was a bit of a wake-up call for us to...
17:58Which is why we got this.
18:00Oh!
18:02Thought a toast was in order.
18:06Sweetheart, Dan would have been so proud of you today.
18:09Oh, thanks, Mum.
18:10Love you, too.
18:13Miles, I hope you understand.
18:14This is just something I feel I have to do.
18:16I understand.
18:18You know what?
18:19I totally agree.
18:21I don't know how I'm going to thank everyone for all that you've done for me.
18:25I've loved having you here.
18:28I'm going to miss you.
18:29I'm going to miss you, too.
18:31If you ever need us, we'll be right here for you.
18:34Yeah, I know.
18:35I know.
18:36But, um, this is a new start for Mum and I.
18:40We've come full circle.
18:45I'll always remember you.
18:57You'll look after him, won't you?
19:00Well, we really have to go.
19:02Yeah.
19:03Okay.
19:08Okay.
19:13Go, go, go, go, go.
19:15You okay?
19:16You don't approve of me, do you?
19:18You don't like who I am or how I act.
19:21And you've been trying to change me.
19:23Into Melody.
19:24No.
19:26Nicole, I just don't want to see you throwing yourself at every other guy that comes along.
19:30So this whole thing with Trey, it was all about jealousy.
19:33No, it's...
19:36Yes, partly it is, but look, can we please just go see Melody off, please?
19:40No, you go.
19:42I'm going to head home and I'll try not to flirt with too many randoms on my way.
19:59Alf, have you seen Tony?
20:00The gym's closed.
20:01Uh, yeah, love.
20:02He said he had a few things to do.
20:04Oh, I saw him this morning.
20:05He didn't mention anything about that.
20:06Yeah, well, he has been a bit funny like that lately, hasn't he?
20:09Not that you can blame him.
20:11Yeah.
20:12Um, so can you give him this when you see him?
20:14He left it at home.
20:15Yeah, well, look, I will if I see him, but I've got to duck off to the bait shop in
20:18a minute.
20:18Oh, but you'll be seeing him later tonight for a drink, though, right?
20:21Well, not that I know of.
20:22You sent him a text about it this afternoon.
20:24Text?
20:25Me?
20:26Love, if I want to get in touch with someone, I just pick up the phone and ring him.
20:29I must have got that wrong.
20:54Next time on Home and Away.
20:56Pretty little thing like you.
20:57I'm sure there's something else you're real good at.
20:59Oh, hands up!
21:03No, no, no, no, no.
21:04I can't remember the way that I had it and I can't focus and I don't know what I'm going
21:07to do.
21:08I don't want to end up all alone having to raise this baby by myself.
21:11Yeah.
21:11Oh, you look sexy.
21:13It's working.
21:14Who's Belinda?
21:15Brought so I'm boring now.
21:16Yeah, you are.
21:17I don't want to do this anymore.
21:18Joey thinks that we're always just going to get sick of it and back down.
21:21You don't think that's very likely?
21:22No, I don't.
