Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride has questioned Andy Burnham’s suitability to become Prime Minister, accusing the Greater Manchester Mayor of changing positions on key policy issues and arguing he has not demonstrated the economic understanding needed for the country's top job.

00:03flip-flopped all over the place. One minute he was going to be big tax breaks
00:07for people and then he stepped back from that and he was going to be paying out
00:10up to 10 billion to the WASP women and changed his mind on that. He's also
00:14somebody who when interviewed and asked what the fiscal rules were was unable to
00:18actually answer that question. So I'm afraid I think the reality is that you've
00:23just not got somebody there who if he was to take over is showing any signs
00:27of being able to come in with the understanding or the grip to do that
00:31really really big job of being the Prime Minister.
