00:01We're getting some velocity and we're still cooking a little bit.
00:05I'm really liking the radar trends right now. I see that rotation on there. The storm may do it.
00:25That's cranky dude. Yeah it is.
00:28That's down. It's down now dude. I'll be really strong.
00:33Strong tornado already.
00:36Guys I'm gonna head north.
00:40I'm heading north.
00:44Oh no oh no it's hitting structures.
00:57There we go.
01:02Oh my gosh dude.
01:04And there we go.

01:28Oh yeah.
01:55Oh, it's hitting structures.
02:13Uh, please protect those people.
02:35Okay, we're going to have a close encounter.
02:48We've got debris starting to rain in.
02:58I'm just slowly trekking with it.
03:05Big pieces of debris in the air.
03:27Uh, it's about a quarter mile away right now.
03:33We've got debris inbound.
03:41Oh my gosh.
03:52This is going to pass right in front of us.
03:57Violent tornado directly near us.
04:19We're crossing the road.
04:37Oh, it's going through the solar farm.
04:38Oh my gosh.
05:06Oh my gosh.
05:10There's a barn right there.
05:11Can I roll this up?
05:12Down?
05:13Yeah.
05:14I've got to get an east option.
05:15Up ahead.
05:16We'll see if it's even open.
05:17Sorry.
05:39This tornado isn't incredibly powerful.
05:48Okay.
05:49Okay, thank you.
05:52All right, maybe starting to rope out.
05:54I see it's still on the ground.
05:59Nope, it's still on the ground, it might be uh, still extremely strong rotation above
06:07me.
06:09There it is, right in the field.
06:15Tornado number two, huge!
06:26Gotta watch to the south too.
06:37Watch out for this guy.
06:52Got a stop sign coming up, we're gonna slam on brakes.
06:54Let's go.
06:56Let's go.
07:26Oh, no, there's a house right there.
07:28Oh, no.
07:32Oh, it looks like an abandoned structure.
07:46Watch out for power lines coming down.
07:57Hold on, this is just RFD, don't worry.
07:59Oh, no, the bar.
08:09Oh, shit.
08:19Oh, my gosh.
08:31We're going to get RFD, which is very strong.
08:38Wow, just missed this house.
08:40Reneos in the fuel.
08:42Right freaking here.
08:47Watch out.
08:51Listen to it.
09:00It's becoming rain wrapped a little bit.
09:11Oh, a tree just snapping right next to us.
09:18I'm giving it some space.
09:20I'm giving it space.
09:23Circulation's going directly over the road right now.
09:25It's not fully condensed, but it is definitely a tornado on the ground.
09:32Wow, this is big.
09:33This is a half-mile-wide tornado, at least.
09:38All right, I'm stopping.
09:41Circulation may actually be expanding a little bit.
10:08We're clear, cleared.
10:10Clear.
10:12Clear, clear.
10:25Nothing grew right where we were.
10:37Oh, oh, tornado.
10:38Tornado to the south.
10:41I am in between tornadoes right now.
10:46Legitimate tornado outbreak.
10:50Wow.
10:51Holy smokes.
10:52I've got to utilize both cameras.
10:56You've got a wedge to the left and a cone to the right.
11:03Bonafide tornado outbreak happening right here.
11:06Violent half mile wide to a mile wide tornado.
11:09Almost grew on top of the car.
11:11I had to back up quickly.
11:13And now a cone tornado to the right.
11:18Got to keep it down.
11:19Focus.
11:21Huge tornado to the right.
11:23Another violent tornado underway in Illinois.
11:37Tornado to the left has dissipated.
11:40Tornado to the right is increasing in size and strength.
11:56This is an unbelievable outbreak occurring right now.
12:02Guys, this is that historic day that's unfolding in Illinois.

13:06Watch the power lines, alright we got the ghost train ripping through here.
13:10Just missed that house.
13:50Oh, I hope that's not a house up there, we're going to get across on the road again.
14:16Oh no, a whole house, oh no, that's, that's, oh shit, I'm going to watch the barrels.
14:20The grain salad just got knocked over.
14:28Power lines coming down.
14:43Oh my gosh, somehow that house is still standing.
14:50Ooh, power lines.
14:54Back it up, back it up.
14:55Oh my gosh.
14:57Oh my gosh.
15:09Oh my gosh.
15:12Oh my gosh, that's amazing.
15:28Oh my gosh, this is tornado number 3.
15:56These cars go first, let's see if they can get through.
16:24That might be David Yeomans actually.
16:27What?
16:27That might be David Yeomans.
16:34Oh, we just got you live on the air?
16:36Yeah.
16:37Oh my god, we're going to want it. Hold on for a second. Are you good right now?
16:40Yeah, it's going to be a little noisy.
16:56Okay.
16:57I'm going to transfer him from my cell phone to... you tell me what line.
17:05All right, stand by. Gabe, I've never done this before.
17:08Okay.
17:08I'm going to... I'm going to do this right now.
17:12We're good.
17:14Okay.
17:14All right.
17:18Insane rope out. Look at how tall that is.
17:43I'm going to see what's going on in my...
17:48Yeah.
18:04Oh, it's pretty cool.
18:08Do these people understand what they're driving into right now?
18:33Okay.
18:41Wait, stay on the phone. Hi, it's Rebecca.
18:48I gave this to CVS control. Just confirm it. You can hear me.
18:50Yes, Gabe.
18:51A little bit of a concerning sign.
18:52Copy that. Thank you.
18:53The Pia Stone in Northern Kentucky County. We'll keep an eye on that.
18:57One more time.
18:59Okay, back to our chaser, Dave Cox. Let's get back in on this storm.
19:04Dave, I assume you're on the storm we're looking at on radar east of Dwight.
19:07Are you on 17 or where are you? What are you seeing?
19:10David, I'm on a county road north of the circulation. I can confirm tornadoes on the ground.
19:15Came out of the rain gardens and there was a stout stovepipe tornado.
19:19We've got a bit of a cone tornado now. It's narrowed just a bit, but it is still very much
19:24on the ground.
19:25So this is it. This is the one we're zooming in on. And, Gabe, I've got a debris ball on
19:31radar.
19:31Just if Scully Road sounds familiar to you, Scully and Campus Road, north side of east, 3200 north, coming down
19:40Route 17.
19:41This is moving into our viewing area and moving into, looks like now the debris ball just south of 17.
19:47This is coming into western Kankakee County now.
19:50I'm about to have a tornado.
19:51These southern storms are stealing the energy. So big storms rolling into Chicago.
19:55Traveled halfway across the country to see this extraordinary severe weather setup and to help keep people safe.
20:00Dave, what do you see right now?
20:02David, I've got a developing tornado directly in front of me. I am on that same cell.
20:07I'm looking due east. We have active tornado genesis occurring right in front of me.
20:14Have you crossed over the interstate yet, Gabe? Over 65?
20:18I have not.
20:20And, Gabe, what exactly are you seeing when you're saying that a tornado is undergoing tornado genesis?
20:25This is spinning very rapidly. This could put down a strong—it's on the ground. Tornado on the ground. I see
20:31the debris on the ground.
20:32Okay, Torn—let's stop. Make sure the water service is aware.
20:36Kylie, just north of De Montt. Tornado on the ground from our storm spotter. Tornado on the ground north of
20:41De Montt.
20:41So this—this is really quite frightening. Some of these pixels showing 81 miles per hour inbound, 63 miles per hour
20:52outbound.
20:52This could be—could be an EF3 or stronger.
20:56David, I can confirm it is a strong tornado. I'm not going to wager to guess which strength.
21:02But what I've seen today, this is on par with the significant tornadoes. This is tornado number seven—or tornado number
21:10eight of the day for me.
21:12Multi-vortex at the base now. So this is a powerful tornado in progress.
21:18We're all good here, but this tornado is still in progress.
21:23Yeah, I have multi-vortex still on the ground. Quarter mile wide tornado. Sorry, eighth mile wide tornado.
21:31It seems to be strengthening. Eight mile wide.
21:33It seems to be strengthening, actually.
21:36So this would be right over U.S. Highway 231, and where it intersects with East 180, East of Hebron
21:44on State Road 8.
21:45This appears to be trucking down State Road 8. We'll put on a little motion here over the last 15
21:50minutes so you can get a better stint.
21:52What we've seen the atmosphere capable of tonight, though, according to the National Weather Service, strong or even silent.
21:58That's EF3, EF4.
22:01You can hear me, Gabe. Are you still near Hebron on this tornado, and is it still underground?
22:05David, David, I gotta go. I just came up on some damage. There's homes hit here southeast of Hebron.
22:12We need emergency personnel here. Homes have been destroyed. I'm gonna run up and check on these people.
22:18Thank you to those people, Gabe. Thank you so much.
22:20You heard it from our storm chaser. I told you storm chasers see some awful things sometimes, but this is
22:25why it's important that they're there.
22:27Not only to tell us what they're seeing and help keep other people safe, but to rescue people.
22:31If there are emergency crews listening to me right now, southeast side of Hebron, homes have been destroyed.
22:36You heard it from our storm chaser in that area. Homes destroyed and people in need of rescue.
22:42I'll do it.
22:45You
