Un gigantesque incendie s'est produit vendredi dans un hôtel de la station balnéaire dominicaine de Bayahibe. Près de 1.700 touristes ont dû être évacués vers d'autres hôtels aux alentours, selon l'agence Associated Press.

Une Italienne de 46 ans a péri dans l'incendie de l'hôtel Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach, ont indiqué les services d'urgence du DAEH dans un communiqué.

Trois personnes ont été transportées à l'hôpital et six autres ont été soignées sur place, ont précisé les services d'urgence. Parmi les victimes figuraient des clients, des visiteurs et des secouristes.

Pour le moment, les causes sont inconnues. Le centre d'opérations d'urgence de la République dominicaine a indiqué que le feu s'est propagé très rapidement à cause du vent, mais aussi du fait que les toits d'une partie de l'hôtel balnéaire étaient en chaume.

00:59who confirmed a fire on the property broke out around 11 a.m. today.

01:26that it does seem that the worst of it is over.
01:28She's not seeing much of the smoke, obviously.
01:31Still some questions remain.
01:32And also lingering questions tonight about any fatalities or injuries.
