00:01A test of skill and patience.
00:03This is a watermelon balancing event in Pindong, southern Taiwan,
00:07held during the Dragon Bird Festival,
00:10celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar.
00:15Traditionally, people try to balance eggs at noon,
00:18as it is believed to bring luck in the year ahead.
00:21But here, organisers have supersized the challenge.
00:30The event drew huge crowds from across Taiwan.
00:33Watermelon balancing was first held in 2018 with 168 watermelons.
00:39It's now grown to over 1,000.
00:41And this year, the event also added another creative twist,
00:45with people dressing up 65 watermelons in a styling contest.
00:49But beyond the fun and creativity,
00:52organisers say the event serves a bigger purpose,
00:55promoting Pindong's locally grown watermelons
00:57and supporting local farmers.
