00:38But we have just come up the little ladder escalator
00:42Because Cape Verde have just beaten Spain nil-nil
00:47It's easily the biggest upset of the tournament
00:49It might even be one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history
00:52So I think we're probably just going to sit here
00:56And piss ourselves over that for about 30 minutes

01:07How it all sort of went along
01:09And what this means for Spain and what not
01:10But I said downstairs
01:11This World Cup's been really good so far
01:13I think in terms of the games
01:15The crowds around it
01:16The vibe, everything
01:16But the two things it's missed
01:18Is an absolutely stunning
01:20Take your breath away goal
01:22But also a really big upset
01:24I think especially after Germany winning 7-1 yesterday
01:27We did need something resembling a result that kind of shocked you a little bit
01:33How shocking is this in the context of the tournament?
01:37This is absolutely stunning
01:39I think, I mean Spain
01:41Everybody had them as one of the two big favourites with France
01:45And even though Lamine Yamal was injured
01:48I think you look at their team
01:50And they're ready
01:51I think the length of the tournament
01:53Yamal obviously developed into it
01:55And I think Que Verde were there to just enjoy the occasion
01:59But I mean the confidence they have now
02:02I mean you saw the tears afterwards from Vozini
02:05The goalkeeper
02:06They won this game by drawing
02:09And I think Thiago Alcantara
02:11Who's just on the Fox coverage that we've just seen
02:14He didn't know what to do with himself
02:16He looked like he saw a ghost
02:20And his reaction was
02:21It feels like we've lost this game
02:23They have
02:24They're used to sort of a few stinkers to open up tournaments
02:28Obviously it didn't matter when they lost to Switzerland
02:32But this feels a little bit different
02:34I mean as you said to me Adam
02:36This is a trend now for European teams
02:38And this is possibly one of the biggest upsets
02:42If you want to call a draw an upset
02:44That we've ever seen in the World Cup

02:51Just looking at sort of the numbers behind this

02:54I didn't check this before I came up
02:56So if I've got this fractionally wrong

02:58European teams have now played 10 games in this World Cup

03:03And they've won three of them
03:05One of those is Germany-Currasse
03:06Which is I think statistically the biggest mismatch in the whole group stage
03:10Another one was Scotland versus Haiti
03:12Which obviously that was very close
03:14Haiti are very good
03:14But Haiti are still way down the FIFA rankings
03:17And the other was Sweden-Tunesia
03:19Which the scoreline was quite dramatic
03:21But I watched that game
03:22I didn't think Sweden were miles, miles better than Tunesia
03:25Every other European team has failed to win in this tournament
03:29Switzerland chucked it away against Qatar when they were winning
03:33The Czechs were beating South Korea and then lost
03:36Bosnia were beating Canada
03:37And then lost obviously Netherlands as well
03:41They threw, they were in the lead twice
03:44It's just, is it the heat?
03:46Is it just because we're coming off the back of really long seasons in Europe?
03:49And obviously it's a world game now
03:51But predominantly these European sides take their players from European leagues
03:54Do we just suck?
03:55What is it?

03:56I think it's a combination of all of those
03:58Also those hydration breaks allow for momentum to be capped at a certain level

04:08Those hydration breaks will allow teams to sort of transmit tactical advice to them
04:14If they're sort of really under the cosh
04:16I think they can reset
04:17And it certainly doesn't help some of the teams who have more quality
04:21To be able to, I mean as we saw at the end there
04:24I mean Spain were really ratcheting up the pressure
04:27And it was wave after wave
04:28Particularly when you've got a player like Laminia Mal
04:30And you just keep feeding him the ball
04:32He was drifting from side to side
04:34And I mean he wasn't even that special
04:36I think as we mentioned during the game
04:38Yeah he absolutely looked like a player who could only have given you 15 or 20 minutes
04:41He was just able to sort of get a little bit of space
04:45And just lift that ball into the mixer if you will
04:48But I mean yeah Pico and Deneva
04:50Just absolute rocks at the back and front of Laminia
04:54And they would not be denied
04:56So I think you're right
04:57I think there's more
04:59It's easier to protect obviously
05:00Than it is to open teams up and break teams down
05:04But I think certainly that the heat is becoming a factor
05:08I mean obviously in Atlanta
05:10Less of an issue there
05:12But I think overall the heat has been a factor
05:15I think it's mad
05:17Because obviously we watched the full end of that game
05:20And Spain were as you say
05:21They brought Jamal on
05:22They put the pressure up
05:23But it was very difficult for everybody to get out
05:25But on the one hand
05:27I wouldn't actually say Spain created a raft of chances
05:31In the last stage of that game
05:32Everything was sort of half chances flicked into the box
05:34They had that Cucurea header at the back post
05:37Which if your best chance of the final 30 minutes of a game
05:41Against Cape Verde is falling to your left back
05:44Clearly you're not really creating too much in the process
05:47And also Cape Verde had two breakaways up the under
05:51Or under the pitch
05:51Where you think they're a little bit more experienced at this level
05:53Or they've just got a little higher quality of player
05:55They maybe go and actually properly punish Spain for that
06:00Certainly I would say the header they get from the corner they get
06:03Is probably the best chance in the last 30 minutes
06:06Yeah he'll want that back wouldn't he
06:07I mean it would have been one of the all-time great performances
06:11Individually if he had done what he did at the back
06:14And then gone up the other end and scored the winner
