A major NHS trust has nearly doubled its breast screening programme, bringing more women into regular checks. Clinicians say earlier detection improves outcomes and saves lives, while patients are set to benefit from greater choice and appointment flexibility.

00:06largest provider in England. The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust will now offer
00:11screening to women aged 50 to 71 across London and surrounding areas. The expansion brings
00:17an extra 310,000 women into the program, taking the total to 750,000. The trust says it will
00:25give patients more choice and flexibility in booking appointments. Around 80 new staff
00:31have joined, taking the team to more than 220. Clinicians say early screening saves lives,
00:38with most cancers detected at an earlier stage and treated more successfully.
