00:10This fungus actually showed up in Brazil back in the 90s and it lives in a cat's claws, in their
00:15saliva, and in any open wounds that they may get.
00:18They're saying that you don't even need a scratch from the cat to get it because they're saying that a
00:22sick cat can also sneeze the fungus straight onto you as well.
00:25So obviously that's great.
00:27Once it gets into your body, it starts as a small bump and then it opens into sores that can
00:32travel up your arm or across your face
00:34and in rare cases, it can get into your lungs, your joints, and even the brain.
00:38And by the way, they're saying that this version has been more aggressive than the normal one.
00:42So that's cool.
00:43The only way to get rid of the infection if you get it is to be put on antifungal pills
00:47for up to nine months at a time
00:49and doctors are currently saying that that treatment is starting to fail.
00:52This fungus has already spread to Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay, and it just turned up into the UK
00:58and the CDC is saying right now that it's only a matter of time before it's in the US too.
