Lego builds full-size Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear car

The Lego Group has unveiled a full-size version of the Sadair’s Spear car produced by Swedish car maker Koenigsegg, built to mark the announcement of a 1:8 scale LEGO Technic model of the same vehicle. The full-size version of the Sadair’s Spear was made from 327,906 LEGO elements as well as real components, with a weight of around 1,800 kilograms, of which 400 kilograms is made up of Lego parts. Lego’s life-size Koenigsegg drove the hill climb circuit at Goodwood downhill, reaching 111 kilometers per hour, Lego said in a statement. Both the full-size version and the 1:8 scale model by Lego, which will go on sale in July, were designed to incorporate features from the original, such as the car’s opening rear hatch, doors and bonnet.

00:13As you might know, we don't glue our Technic models, but still, this is pretty solid.
00:19So Casper, this is why we're here today.
00:44It's been through team effort and through team collaboration, figuring out something that we have never done before.
01:07This is a dream come true to have a wonderful Technic Lego car of the Cytosphere, but also, of course,
01:16this full-scale amazing creation that just broke a speed record down the Goodwill Hill Climb.
01:25I mean, when I was a kid, I used to play with Lego. My children have been playing with it.
01:31So to have this collaboration and creating one of the most extreme Lego models in history is really a great
01:38honor for us and such an exciting project we've been working on for several years.
02:00The vision we had was that if we remove the logo, there is no question it's a Koenigsegg.
02:05So we spent a lot of time on figuring out the exact right bits and pieces to make the right
02:11shapes.
02:12And I would say given the size of the Lego blocks and so on, I'm really amazed on the precision
02:19of that.
02:40I think this was the most complicated project I was ever part of. I was part of yet, maybe.
02:47It was just the amount of features that we had to put in, starting with the high top speed, all
02:55the way to all the details and the ghost mode, of course.
03:08It was really an amazing project. We had a really strong collaboration together with the Koenigsegg team.
03:15One and a half year where the first half year was mainly focusing on the 9 speed gearbox and the
03:21triplex suspension.
03:23And then from there we start to look into the exterior, the bodywork and the opening doors and the ghost
03:28mode function on top of that.
03:30So that all the details and everything that gave in was brought into it.
04:06All the details and the girls too.
04:28We have to follow the video for you next week.
04:38Okay, let's start slowing down a bit in this one.
05:27I'll see you next time.
