00:00I'm going to be reading out a statement on behalf of Huda Amourin, who is the
00:05claimant and the co-founder of Palestine Action, and this is her statement.
00:12We are surprised by today's judgment after a panel of senior judges on the
00:19High Court, including the president of the King's Bench Division, decisively
00:26ruled that the government acted unlawfully in prescribing Palestine Action, because of
00:33the significant interference with the rights of freedom of expression and peaceful
00:40assembly.
00:41We will fight this all the way.
00:49We will seek permission to appeal to the Supreme Court, and if need be, take this to the European
00:57Court of Human Rights.
01:04And we are confident that we will ultimately succeed because criminalizing peaceful political
01:12protest in this way is a flagrant violation of our fundamental rights and freedoms in Britain,
01:22protected in the Human Rights Act, which enshrines the European Convention of Human Rights.
01:30We will not stop fighting.
01:33In a ruling which likely paves the way for hundreds of criminal cases against people accused of
01:39supporting the group to go ahead, five Court of Appeal judges said the ban was a justified
01:46and proportionate interference on freedom of expression rights.
01:50Monday's decision overturns the judgment of three judges at the High Court, who ruled in February
01:57that the then Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's decision to ban Palestine Action was unlawful,
02:02following a legal challenge from the group's co-founder, Huda Amore.
02:07I have been overwhelmed by the extraordinary outpouring of support for Palestine Action since
02:14this ban was imposed.
02:16More than 3,400 people have been arrested for defying it, risking up to 14 years imprisonment.
02:26I have been in awe of the courage shown by thousands of people, from priests and pastors, to retired
02:35doctors and former magistrates, including many elderly and frail or disabled people, and many
02:42who had never protested before, but nevertheless chose to stand up for our rights and for justice
02:51for the Palestinian people at immense personal cost.
