00:00:00Oh, what a goal!
00:00:01Oh, look at that! Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rooney O'Connor!
00:00:07Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:49Hello, three games on tonight's Match of the Day.
00:00:52Big matches in the race for Europe
00:00:54and a huge one at the bottom of the table.
00:00:56You can also vote for April's Goal of the Month.
00:00:58And big games means the big hitters are in.
00:01:01Good evening, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
00:01:04And good evening to the rest of our regular pundits.
00:01:06West Ham's defeat against Brentford yesterday
00:01:08meant that a win would lift Spurs out of the bottom three.
00:01:12They faced Aston Villa this evening
00:01:13and your commentator is Mark Scott.
00:01:17While West Ham's loss would have given Spurs a lift,
00:01:20Roberto Deserbi's been trying to rev his men up too,
00:01:24telling them they have to silence the negative voices inside of them.
00:01:29Tottenham haven't had any positives against Villa this season,
00:01:32losing in both league and cup to them already.
00:01:34But it is a much-changed side they face tonight
00:01:37with Martinez, Cash, Tielemans and Rodgers,
00:01:40the only ones who also started the Europa League loss at Forest on Thursday.
00:01:45Spurs' long-awaited and much-needed league win last weekend
00:01:49came at a cost with Simmons and Solanke,
00:01:52the latest names added to the injury list.
00:01:55Tell and Richarlison replaced them with Udoggi and Paulinia
00:01:59in for the bench, Spence and Bersuma.
00:02:04Important for Villa, vital for Spurs.
00:02:08Can they take advantage of West Ham's wobble yesterday
00:02:11and climb above the Hammers into safety?
00:02:17Barkley didn't get there, Benteke onto it.
00:02:19Richarlison, early chance which he snatched at.
00:02:23Richarlison on the swivel, saw his strike actually taken off his toes
00:02:28behind the backtracking, Uri Tielemans.
00:02:32One down, four to go for Roberto Deservi.
00:02:34He reckons Spurs can win all of their final matches,
00:02:37which is pretty punchy given they've only managed eight wins all season.
00:02:43Pedro Poro, releasing Colomoani.
00:02:46Wings is across, Martinez had come out as well.
00:02:50Wings off for safety first.
00:02:54No John McKinn in the Villa squad today.
00:02:56Unai Emery says that he's not 100%,
00:02:58so they decided not to risk him
00:03:00with the second leg of that Europa League semi coming up
00:03:03against Forrest here on Thursday.
00:03:07So it's going to be a long delivery from Danso here.
00:03:11Penteke couldn't get to it.
00:03:13Gallagher will.
00:03:14He might have a pop here!
00:03:16Oh!
00:03:17Connor Gallagher!
00:03:18His first goal for Tottenham!
00:03:21And it could be seismic for Spurs!
00:03:26What a way and what a time to get your first goal for the club!
00:03:32Oh, they believe now that the escape is on.
00:03:35Tottenham in front early, thanks to Connor Gallagher!
00:03:40Looked like the danger had been dealt with from the initial throw,
00:03:44but Connor Gallagher had other ideas.
00:03:47One touch to bring it down, the next to hook it beyond Martinez and in.
00:03:52And Spurs find themselves in front and on course to escape the relegation zone.
00:03:59Villa nil, Spurs one.
00:04:02Tottenham have decent value for their lead.
00:04:07Here's Kohler Mouane, three to aim for in the area.
00:04:11Kohler Mouane nearly finds Richarlison.
00:04:14Paulinho urges to have a hit, obliges, and hits the post!
00:04:20Flag's up now.
00:04:22A close shave for Aston Villa there.
00:04:26As João Paulinho, the hero in the Midlands last weekend,
00:04:30nearly gave Spurs daylight at Villa.
00:04:34Well, Unai Emery wants energy from the fans.
00:04:37They're doing their best to try and get the Villa team going.
00:04:42Gallagher.
00:04:45Tell.
00:04:46Dangerous, Richarlison's up there!
00:04:48And Martinez makes a save from Kohler Mouane.
00:04:52Another chance for Tottenham to go two up.
00:04:55And again, Martinez is able to save the day for Villa.
00:04:590-1 picking up Randall Kohler Mouane,
00:05:02and patted over the top by Martinez.
00:05:11He's gone all the way across, and Danso!
00:05:14That was travelling.
00:05:16Biglogie.
00:05:19Villa look ragged right now.
00:05:21Spurs sets bluff, and it's two!
00:05:23It's Richarlison!
00:05:25Tottenham Hotspur in Dreamland!
00:05:28Who would have seen this coming?
00:05:31Spurs 2-0 up inside of 25 minutes!
00:05:39They can barely believe it.
00:05:41And the Tottenham fans are probably struggling to take it in two.
00:05:46Just look at the amount of time and space
00:05:48that Spurs had on the ball here.
00:05:51And boy, did they make it pay.
00:05:53Richarlison not picked up properly.
00:05:56And as soon as he got on the end of that gorgeous ball in from Matisse Tell,
00:06:00there was only going to be one end result.
00:06:04Villa nil, Spurs 2.
00:06:06This is no smash and grab.
00:06:08Tottenham fully deserving of their two-goal lead.
00:06:14Aston Villa look like the side in the relegation zone right now.
00:06:17I've not seen many Aston Villa games this season,
00:06:20but I would wager a fair amount that this is probably one of the worst halves
00:06:23that they have had this season.
00:06:25He might agree with me.
00:06:27He certainly does.
00:06:31Villa's recent league form has been a bit patchy,
00:06:33but they do still have one of the best home records this season.
00:06:3635 points from 17 games, so this is very out of character for them.
00:06:44Gamica, side down by Barkley, who will become the first pillar player in the book.
00:06:51Spurs on their way out of the drop zone and on course for back-to-back league wins
00:06:56for the first time since the first week of the season.
00:07:02Rodgers passes on here for Abraham.
00:07:05Tammy Abraham, while the speed and execution of the tackle from Van de Ven
00:07:11gets Spurs out of jail.
00:07:13Could have been the first serious sight of Kinski's goal for Villa,
00:07:16but Van de Ven judged it perfectly.
00:07:22He'd have been furious with the first half.
00:07:24He'll be equally disappointed with the second, I think,
00:07:27because there's been no sign of any kind of response.
00:07:30Almost as if they're resigned to their fate this evening.
00:07:36Telemans.
00:07:38Bings.
00:07:44Bailey.
00:07:53Corner kick.
00:08:02with 90 seconds of the 90 minutes to play.
00:08:09And headed over the top, and that's as good as it's got for Villa this evening.
00:08:14Tyrone Mings was up, I think it might have just come off his shoulder.
00:08:17This is the best that Aston Villa have conjured up in front of goal all night.
00:08:22It wasn't exactly great, was it?
00:08:26Have had many enjoyable experiences this season,
00:08:29but those Spurs fans are drinking in every minute of this.
00:08:33to know Daylight because the Kailly has a very nice point on stage.
00:08:55lymph minus hortons and then,
00:08:56And then on the bottom
00:08:58there are boats,
00:09:01and then it's necessarily a bit more settled in head
00:09:01for the straight line.
00:09:04it's their first effort on target and it's ended up in the back of the Spurs net
00:09:10beautiful ball in from Matty Cash and guided in ever so well by Emi Buendia
00:09:15little chance for Kinski with that but little chance of it meaning anything in terms of the result tonight
00:09:27Spurs storm out of the relegation zone
00:09:30they have been brilliant tonight and suddenly look like a team brimming with belief
00:09:36and their crews against an abject Aston Villa tonight spells trouble for another side in Clariton Blue
00:09:44as West Ham now dropped below the dotted line Aston Villa 1 Tottenham Hotspur 2
00:09:52what did you get so right today that meant that you dominated the game as you did
00:09:57by the high pressure for sure and the ball possession for me is not a surprise
00:10:01it's not my credit because I'm lucky to work with a lot of very important players
00:10:08some people will say you made seven changes and did that have an impact on how you played
00:10:13what's your take on that
00:10:16last week we we lost against Fulham and which player played against Fulham and which player
00:10:24played against nothing and and we lost two two matches and we lost as well with another players
00:10:30okay we can lose loss and we can win with every players pressure becomes important at this stage
00:10:36of the season you're now out of the relegation zone West Ham in it we have to feel the same
00:10:41pressure
00:10:43football is different can change in week by week we can't forget what we
00:10:50we felt before the Wolverhampton game and before the Palina goal in Wolverhampton we were
00:10:58uh died and and so we have to push again and I can't permit anyone to think in different way
00:11:05than
00:11:06me I actually pretty much forgot I scored towards the end of the game because I was so focused on
00:11:11just us getting the win that I forgot about my goal early on but yeah looking back now on on
00:11:17um in the
00:11:18change room it was a nice goal um I took it well and hopefully there's a few more to come
00:11:23you can look
00:11:23back at it on match of the day tonight as well if I can talk you into watching it yeah
00:11:26I will do don't
00:11:27worry about that sure he was very convinced about that which is unflattering to say the least don't
00:11:34be nervous but he is watching so look it was it was good as spurs as well as spurs have
00:11:40played in
00:11:40a in a long time and it was right from the off that they set their intentions at micah yeah
00:11:45they pressed
00:11:46high from the front from the start of the game I thought there was exceptional in terms of how they
00:11:50set up
00:11:51and I just want to look at because spurs have been playing a bit lower but against villa today
00:11:58they were brave and richarlison really did his work for his team but the good thing is about this
00:12:05when you press high like this obviously you've got to block the lines exactly what they did and then
00:12:09they're going man to man but the key part is barkley in the center of the pitch your defender has
00:12:15to be
00:12:15brave and jump and that's exactly what danzo did and then richarlison gets an opportunity which he
00:12:21should have passed again colomani color gallagher bento kermit charlison blocking the middle of the
00:12:27pitch because you know villa liked up occupy that in the middle of the pitch and they didn't allow them
00:12:34to play in that middle and then get the ball wide and that's because there was aggressive on the press
00:12:40and they was brave in doing that and the defenders have to buy into it richarlison i mentioned again
00:12:46colomani really good in occupying the defenders force it in one way and then everyone can jump on
00:12:54this time it's van der ben on barkley and it made it so difficult for villa to play and didn't
00:12:59know what
00:13:00what to do and then when they got the ball there was composed on the ball but this was was
00:13:05the best
00:13:06clip for me although nothing came for it in terms of what they did here and scoring but what it
00:13:11did
00:13:11do it forced a throwing and from the resulting throwing danzo with his long throw and this is
00:13:18conor gallagher we've talked about he talked about his finish look at that for a touch and look at that
00:13:23for a finish absolutely brilliant and that was all in the first 12 minutes they started bright
00:13:30there was confident they had a game plan they stuck to the tactics and i just thought they was
00:13:35outstanding today i really did so they started with that intensity and their intent was obvious
00:13:40as well in the number of second balls they won alan they won every single tackle they won every single
00:13:45second ball and what they also did is is um they took the risk out of their game in terms
00:13:51of not playing
00:13:51from the back in unnecessary circumstances and they did that and when i said they won every second ball
00:13:57that's what i mean they might not have won that first header but what they did really well is is
00:14:01engage and make sure they won the tackle after that and then look at that look at that commitment
00:14:07that is what you need when you're in desperate trouble you need every single player at it and spurs
00:14:14were today that's what i mean about taking the villa press out so they go along and then they commit
00:14:19men
00:14:19forward and that's what they did and now they outnumber aston villa in forward positions because of that long
00:14:24ball because villa wanted to press them and at times they couldn't because they they missed the press out
00:14:29really unlucky but they get into that position because the same thing again he's got options
00:14:35options kinski can pass it left or right but the same thing again ball in behind they don't win the
00:14:40first one but look where the ball falls to because they're that brave and they're committing that many
00:14:45men forward into forward positions then getting the ball into the box when they do win it and they've also
00:14:51got three in the box as well they create another opportunity but for a good save from from martinez
00:14:56second half same thing look miss the press out again they go along they don't win the first header
00:15:01but they win that second ball that was a constant right throughout the game and that gave them the
00:15:07platform to go and play and to create chances and again look how many men they've got in in forward
00:15:12positions they were brave they were aggressive and they were absolutely outstanding and deserve to win
00:15:18that game but the difference is sorry on that is when you go forward like that if there's any any
00:15:25ball that you you wouldn't high up the pitch when when spurs are winning the ball a little bit further
00:15:30back they couldn't really get out so if you look at the clips that alan showed there even if they
00:15:35lose
00:15:35it they can get the second if not the second and get the third and that's because the defense in
00:15:39midfield and the forwards were all being brave with their press and they were helped in their performance
00:15:44by the fact that villa looked like they were lacking energy and they looked like a team that had made
00:15:49seven changes which is what una emery did they also looked like a team who have a europa league
00:15:55semi-final that they're one nil down in to come on thursday and they look like a team who are
00:15:59fairly
00:16:00comfortably in fifth place and a champions league qualification spot yeah although some people might
00:16:06criticize i think the villa fans there was was with a few boos at half time in terms of the
00:16:11effort
00:16:11the players that he put out today were more than capable of performing better than they did today
00:16:16but if you look at the bigger picture in terms of the champions league position and then the
00:16:21semi-final europa league they're doing a great job you're going to get those sort of performances
00:16:26sometimes and it was just one of those today they're in the semi-final they've got it all to
00:16:29do in the return leg they're in fifth as you said they've got six points gap uh if una emery
00:16:35gets that
00:16:35team into the champions league for next season they've got two chances of doing that in the league
00:16:39yeah and by winning the europa he's entitled to change that team around and do whatever he wants
00:16:44to do he's not worried about whatever the opposition or whoever thinks that's sport and integrity or
00:16:49whatever it is it's his team he can do what he wants he's earned the right to do that what
00:16:53about the
00:16:53relegation battle what does this do to that because we thought it might be a straight shootout between
00:16:58tottenham and west ham the thing is now tottenham are only two points behind nottingham forest they play
00:17:05chelsea tomorrow at chelsea so who knows what the gap could be come the end of the day and now
00:17:11maybe
00:17:11three teams in the running to get relegated at the end of the season it's been a terrible weekend for
00:17:17west ham hasn't it with the uh the result for them yesterday and the result that went against them to
00:17:21do with uh with spurs so they have got it all to do and looking at their fixtures as well
00:17:27i think that
00:17:27game against leeds united possibly their best chance of getting three points okay you can't predict
00:17:32through every time we make a prediction we get it wrong don't we but from those fixtures i think
00:17:38west ham i've got it all to do i think spurs now have got that little bit of momentum even
00:17:43though
00:17:43the players they found a different way to be playing mainly spurs fought with the technical
00:17:48players they could go a different way but with the intensity they showed today they can that's their
00:17:53standard now they've set the line there they cannot fall below that line now in terms of energy
00:18:00and if they keep that level up could be safe they could keep that up yeah but i think deserve
00:18:06it
00:18:06needs a lot of credit for the way he set his team it's it's one of those situations where you're
00:18:12in
00:18:12a relegation battle and you've got players who hide none of those players hide hid out there tonight and i
00:18:18think the fact that he's giving them the confidence i think that is the difference is there an element of
00:18:23frustration around spurs though that they haven't done this so far this season i know they've had some of
00:18:27those players missing at different points but that they are capable of this well it's actually it's
00:18:33actually trying to draw it out of them and and at the minute he's the win last week they win
00:18:37again
00:18:38today so it looks as if the players are responding to what he's doing in training and what he's giving
00:18:42them the feedback might yet be a good end to the season for tottenham now it's time for april's goal
00:18:47of
00:18:47the month here are the contenders
00:19:05this is
00:19:10oh brilliant that is fabulous from the 17 year olds what composure
00:19:29brooks come through the stop big chance to win it what a lovely goal by borman
00:19:35they've been the better side and it was a lovely move
00:19:48gross
00:19:50oh what a finish that is it's caro mitoma with a fantastic goal a blistering volley
00:20:09solanke wants it simon starts inside and scores
00:20:15what a magnificent goal by xavi simon for tandem hot spot
00:20:20that may very well be their most important goal of this season so far
00:20:31first touch for the substitute yates
00:20:34his cross gives white
00:20:36teddy
00:20:43first courier nottingham forest
00:20:45hat-trick
00:20:53jerky
00:20:54there was a gap to go for and he's gone through
00:21:02a superb goal from a sublime footballer
00:21:14something different from arsenal
00:21:16hovers
00:21:21what a strike that is
00:21:24an awful lot to do
00:21:27but that's how to do it
00:21:39jensen who's going for it
00:21:45curled in quite beautifully by matthew jensen

00:22:07three points separated manchester united and liverpool ahead of their game at old trafford
00:22:11both teams look likely to be playing champions league football next season
00:22:15but this fixture always matters commentary comes from steve wilson
00:22:21the 218th meeting of these two northern powerhouses
00:22:25and familiarity has generally bred contempt
00:22:29football music and a canal
00:22:32it's all fed into more than a century's worth of antagonism
00:22:36and maybe they'll say it quietly

00:25:26off seshko's left hand
00:25:30well darren england is getting instructions from stuart atwell
00:25:35and he's telling the two captains
00:25:37and he's telling the two captains what he's being told
00:25:39and it's a goal
00:25:46no conclusive proof that it hit his fingertip
00:25:50was the var decision
00:25:54halfway through the first half it's been fast and furious
00:25:58and full of fun for manchester united
00:26:04and gapo well hit
00:26:07well he struck it really well
00:26:10that bent
00:26:11it bent a lot but not quite
00:26:13enough
00:26:16feels like a long way back already
00:26:25good vision casemiro
00:26:28dalo for manchester united
00:26:30four up here
00:26:31brian and boomer
00:26:33oh and bruno fernandez just wide
00:26:37this is a let off for liverpool
00:26:39and bruno fernandez is really annoyed with himself
00:26:43just wide off the shin of bruno fernandez
00:26:48he'll be delighted they've played with a real energy
00:26:51and momentum today
00:26:55so manchester united are making a change at half time
00:26:58and amadialo is coming on for benjamin seshko
00:27:02which you would imagine has to be an injury
00:27:09menu
00:27:13picked off amadialo's pass
00:27:16by dominic soboslai
00:27:17gapo to his left
00:27:19frimpong to his right
00:27:21soboslai goes alone and puts it in the net
00:27:24manchester united two
00:27:26liverpool one
00:27:29amadialo gave the ball
00:27:31to dominic soboslai
00:27:33and he ran half the length of the field
00:27:36before planting it into the back of the manchester united goal
00:27:40more than half the length of the field really
00:27:44it's a really good finish that
00:27:46he's just passed it into the corner
00:27:492-1
00:27:52certainly put some wind in liverpool's sails
00:27:55more confident side now
00:27:59florian vets coming into a good position
00:28:01finding soboslai back into vets
00:28:05well
00:28:06seven alarmants let it go confident that it wasn't on target
00:28:09but a tidy progression up the pitch from liverpool nonetheless
00:28:13and this is very often about placement rather than power
00:28:18just curled away
00:28:23what a mistake by lamans
00:28:26and cody gapo scores for liverpool
00:28:30it's 2-2
00:28:33well the lead never quite looked unassailable
00:28:36but it looked extremely comfortable at half time
00:28:39it's lasted barely more than 10 minutes of the second half
00:28:44and manchester united have gifted liverpool two goals really
00:28:50no hiding place for a goalkeeper
00:28:52not when you do this
00:28:55senna lamans
00:28:56straight to alexis mccallister
00:28:59and gapo will never score an easier goal
00:29:03it's all square
00:29:07manchester united
00:29:09have won only one of their last seven premier league games against liverpool at old trafford
00:29:17ryan gravenberg
00:29:22it is a free kick
00:29:24and that is kunya
00:29:25is horrified by that decision
00:29:29well he's got a point kunya he pulled out of the challenge
00:29:34soboslai
00:29:35oh headed back across goal
00:29:36well
00:29:37that could easily have fallen
00:29:39more kindly for liverpool
00:29:42well this was very uncomfortable for
00:29:45united
00:29:47senna lamans having to kind of hack it
00:29:49off the line
00:29:58it's a foul by van dijk
00:30:07it's a foul by van dijk
00:30:18not a liverpool defender anywhere near him really
00:30:25dougu
00:30:29mainu
00:30:33that is kunya good ball that luke shaw here for united
00:30:36luke shaw's cross toward amadialo and mccallister kept it away from casemiro
00:30:42but mainu scores
00:30:46great finish by kobe mainu
00:30:49manchester united 3 liverpool 2
00:30:53in the week he signed a new long term deal with manchester united
00:30:58kobe mainu
00:31:00steers them back in front
00:31:05great ball into luke shaw really was
00:31:12mccallister's little flick didn't really do enough
00:31:14and mainu gets such a good precise contact on this
00:31:22perfectly placed
00:31:23manchester united lead
00:31:28here's curtis jones
00:31:30and he's found alexis mccallister who feeds
00:31:35kirkhez who moves it quickly into ungamoa
00:31:39gatpo in the middle
00:31:39vertz in the middle ungamoa loves a step over
00:31:42hits the shot wide of the post
00:31:45and sorbus lay on the edge of the penalty area
00:31:47wanted a pass
00:31:50couple of step overs
00:31:51step inside
00:31:53but wide
00:31:56from ungamoa
00:31:58and manchester united
00:32:00will be playing champions league football next season
00:32:03that mission has been accomplished
00:32:06and they've beaten liverpool in the process
00:32:09manchester united 3
00:32:12liverpool 2
00:32:14mistakes are part of football and i think
00:32:15shows the group and the character to to come back from that and bounce back
00:32:19and if anything to win with with a late winner is
00:32:22uh
00:32:22gives you a great feeling and to see the stadium light up like it did is uh is very special
00:32:27i think we controlled uh the game uh maybe the whole game but mainly the second half
00:32:32and in the first half when we controlled it we were not a threat at all offensively
00:32:36uh but in the second half we combined controlling the game also with being a threat but um
00:32:41one moment of switching off is uh usually for us conceding a goal
00:32:47champions leagues yeah of course it's important let's not over celebrate it
00:32:50we want we want more than that but um nevertheless to do it with so many games to spare from
00:32:55the
00:32:55position that we're in i think uh there's a lot of people and a lot of players need a lot
00:32:59of
00:32:59credit for that it's never an easy game against them you know there's always lots of ups and downs and
00:33:03um just glad to come out with the win it's nice to be back among the girls i haven't scored
00:33:06in a while and um
00:33:08amazing fixture to do it i think cobbies taken another step forward in the last couple of weeks
00:33:13especially i think his performance and his level of performance has been top and um
00:33:17there's still a bit to come from him but at the moment with the level that he's playing at is
00:33:21he
00:33:21can be really pleased with himself now before we talk about the game there was news this afternoon
00:33:26that alex ferguson was taken to hospital after falling unwell shortly before the game at old
00:33:31trafford we have been told it was a precautionary move and not an emergency situation and of course
00:33:37everyone here at match of the day sends our very best wishes and he would have enjoyed manchester united's
00:33:43first league double over liverpool in a decade they've qualified for champions league football
00:33:48next season which is michael carrick says it's not something they want to over celebrate but it's
00:33:52crucial to the the club moving forward financially as much as anything else and also it was kobi mainu
00:33:59who did it and that what a journey he's been on micah he's been uh as a player he's been
00:34:06outstanding
00:34:06um but today i thought it was exceptional not just because of the stuff that i'm going to
00:34:14talk about here the defensive it's it's football intelligence game intelligence football iq all those
00:34:22things understanding the positions you need to be in when you're in this position here obviously helped
00:34:28by casemiro and kobe mainu has always been a player that we've liked and we've talked about for
00:34:35so long but we didn't know what was he eight was he was he a six was he a ten
00:34:40i think he's found his
00:34:41position now and he feels at home and when i talk about the football intelligence this is what i'm talking
00:34:47about he keeps his game very safe when he needs to and then arrives late when he needs to also
00:34:54he sees
00:34:55space in front of him and then taking the risk and then can you finish and the finish was brilliant
00:35:01and i've been in that situation when you're a young a young boy and everyone's talking about you and
00:35:08it's very difficult to keep that level of consistency but his consistency we just got some stats here to
00:35:13show you how good he was in that game in terms of his passes possession one uh distance covered but
00:35:20the goal he scored and it was a big goal against liverpool but just a psychological sort of place
00:35:25that is in when everyone's telling how good you are at 21 or 20 before he's played for england and
00:35:31he's played in big games and you're left out by the manager how do you deal with that and he's
00:35:36he's
00:35:37dealt with it spot on his attitude's been brilliant he could have lost his confidence but he didn't
00:35:41lose confidence and he puts in a performance like that so it wasn't more about analyzing his game and
00:35:47what he did it's more about how he was taking on information and could he perform in his head
00:35:52because he's had a manager who didn't fancy him and characters put his arm around him and these are
00:35:57the performances that you're getting from him week in week out and i just love to see it and tied
00:36:02him
00:36:02into that long-term contract at manchester united as well i could do with one of those
00:36:08had the uh the decisive moment in the game there was one moment of controversy with benjamin
00:36:13seshko's goal and when anna slot was asked about it in his post-match press conference he was
00:36:20animated i don't think it's a surprise to anyone this season that if there are is a vr intervention
00:36:25or if there's something that you could look at or could be left could be right that then that decision
00:36:31goes against us that has been the whole season every single time the same this is a complete pattern
00:36:37over the whole season but there's also a pattern that we concede ridiculous goals when we are the better
00:36:42team that one or two switching off and then we can see the goal and that is more that we
00:36:47have more
00:36:47influence on so i should focus much more on that than on these referees decisions that go against us
00:36:52but it's clear that they that is the whole season the same and we will have a look at the
00:36:57way that
00:36:58liverpool played in this game in in just a moment but we just want to clear up the seshko goal
00:37:02and
00:37:02was it handball was it not humble well what did you think alan well i thought it was handball yeah
00:37:07and
00:37:08i think and i mean i i don't want to see these goals disallowed right i mean i think that
00:37:12the
00:37:12the handball laws are complete nonsense anyway and this laws as well but in terms of consistency and
00:37:19applying the law correctly i i think me and micah agreed straight away that we both said that's hit
00:37:24his hand you can see the motion of the ball move correct because it hits his left hand there it's
00:37:29only
00:37:29a slight touch i get that and as i said i don't want to see them disallow but when they're
00:37:34applying the
00:37:34law and that's what they say if it hits any part of your hand and either goal score it should
00:37:38be
00:37:38disallowed and that should have been disallowed they say that that was inconclusive the footage
00:37:43but it's there for us for all see the the motion of the ball changed didn't it and that's what
00:37:51you
00:37:51need to look at like alan said we don't want to see goals given away for this when we're talking
00:37:55about
00:37:55fingernails or whatever but the law is if it comes off your hand which it clearly did in our view
00:38:02the goal shouldn't have been given it's as simple it's as simple as that but isn't it i mean we're
00:38:07at this stage and this is where we we're at now this is where they've got us we're actually debating
00:38:14whether it's flicked onto his finger uh we'd have talked about this before as well we always find
00:38:21this we always find this stuff to talk about but but look in in terms of of the way that
00:38:26liverpool
00:38:27played on a slot said very honestly that decision is not what cost liverpool the game the bits that
00:38:33they can control they didn't get right particularly in the first half yeah well they're defending i
00:38:38thought was was all over the place again and for large parts of this season that's why they're in the
00:38:42position they are and having the season they are i mean i think that's a quite a simple header from
00:38:48andy robertson should be doing a lot better that's the the goal the uh the goal to concede but they're
00:38:53actually all over the place even when they give the ball away here van dyke gets caught in no man's
00:38:58land he's not sure where into going tight then all of a sudden he doesn't want to run in behind
00:39:02and stay
00:39:02with fernandez lets him run there and and and again i mean that that's a a very very good ball
00:39:09in but
00:39:10they have so much space then canardy has a look behind him then robertson has a look behind himself
00:39:16and he can see bruno fernandez and eventually when the ball goes in now bruno fernandez is a fantastic
00:39:21player but i don't think he should be winning that ball at the far post against andy robertson
00:39:26against the quality of the defender that he is again the look at the space he's got to uh to
00:39:32run into
00:39:32there the ball eventually comes out on the on the right hand side but fernandez in the middle should
00:39:38do better this he's got incredible amounts of of space and also the concern is here couldn't you
00:39:45how on earth can he have so much time to take a touch and turn take another touch and then
00:39:51i mean
00:39:52canardy just gets it so wrong i mean goodness me that that just sort of summed liverpool up and and
00:39:58the
00:39:58season that they're that they're having and van dyke decides to go in and close down on his own
00:40:03nowhere near him no one near him at all but have a look at the back line here when the
00:40:08ball eventually
00:40:08comes in how far kirk has his behind i mean look at that line there yeah it's it really is
00:40:15remarkable
00:40:16i mean to be fair to him he does get across and he does he does get the ball eventually
00:40:20but again
00:40:21it's um it's comical defending kirk has comes on for robertson he again has a look at ahmed he can
00:40:27see
00:40:28him smallest man on the pitch chips it in and he heads it this time at the far post then
00:40:33mccallister
00:40:34gets his clearance all wrong it's a very very clever finish but liverpool defensively goodness me so many
00:40:41errors and they've been punished for it all season as they were today what about manchester united in
00:40:47their immediate future is michael carrick the man to to take them forward we've asked this question
00:40:52so many times since he took over what we can see and what the the facts behind this are that
00:40:57if the
00:40:58table started when michael carrick took over manchester united would be top and clear top
00:41:03five points ahead of arsenal they've qualified for champions league football they've signed cobby
00:41:09mayno up to a long-term deal and presumably increased any value that they would get if they were to
00:41:13to sell him on i know there's an emotional pull but is there a a sensible business decision to be
00:41:19made here to do a specific job and he's done that job very very well and in those games he
00:41:24showed he's
00:41:25won in big games as well he's beaten city beaten arsenal beaten liverpool um so for me yes he at
00:41:31least deserves the chance to go again i don't know maybe a one-year contract with different incentives if
00:41:36he hits different targets but he's he was brought in to do a job and he's done that job who
00:41:42else would
00:41:43they bring in if not michael carrick i mean people keep asking that question i think you need to be
00:41:49careful what you wish for they've got a good manager there he knows what he's doing he knows the club
00:41:54and he's getting results what more what more do you want now andoni iraola's bournemouth are unbeaten
00:42:01in 14 premier league games it's the longest run in the division and they're pushing for europe
00:42:06they faced crystal palace at the vitality stadium and jonathan pierce was there
00:42:12seventeen years ago this weekend bournemouth overcame a minus 17 point deficit imposed for
00:42:18financial irregularities to stay in the football league on the last day a win today would take them
00:42:24to the brink of europe a draw for palace on thursday will be enough to take them to the conference
00:42:29league
00:42:29final two bournemouth changes from the draw with leeds ryan replaces brooks having scored from the bench
00:42:35last week and adams starts for the first time since early march with christie dropping to the bench
00:42:41and with thursday's returning at checktar in mind palace rest mateta mitchell richardsar and wharton
00:42:47tadiria plays his first league game since march the fifth and there are starts for
00:42:51divani for the first time since january lerma johnson and thursday scorer strand last
00:43:00crystal palace fans singing they're on the way to leipzig for the conference final
00:43:06bournemouth from near oblivion to europe in a generation that would be some story now jimenez
00:43:15that's out for a corner kick
00:43:20victory today would take them above brentford into sixth down brighton he dropped down to eighth
00:43:26after that defeat at newcastle but it is a very tight tussle for european spots it comes to
00:43:32tavernier corner henderson punches skied up by brennan johnson
00:43:45and over it goes with a deflection brian with a shot he was tumbling as he had the shot
00:43:53the teenager from rio
00:43:56want to get it go it's off the line keepers kept it out he hasn't you know it's a goal
00:44:03form of lead i wonder who will be credited with it
00:44:10evan nielsen wants the goal but did the defender on the post in trying to hook it out actually hook
00:44:17it over his own goal line evan nielsen with the header that has to be an own goal jefferson lerma
00:44:25not too sure what he thought he was doing with the header in that position trying to head it back
00:44:29to
00:44:29his goalkeeper in a tight spot henderson couldn't keep it out early lead for bournemouth and having
00:44:37made the five changes this could get messy for crystal palace today
00:44:44kamara called in two mines scott pushes it through evan nielsen
00:44:51oh bournemouth minds very much set on europe crystal palace minds not really here today
00:45:00evan nielsen slightly leaning off it
00:45:03riola with just the three games left after this fulham away
00:45:07manchester city at home and then forest on the last day
00:45:11tavernier
00:45:14one more playing with their usual intensity
00:45:18scott lovely ball away to jimenez first time crossing would have been glorious
00:45:23and it was over by ryan
00:45:26lovely move swept out to the fullback early cross couldn't get over it
00:45:36here come bournemouth again sweeping into the open space tavernier tavernier
00:45:43henderson beats it out could and should have been two there too fair sees ghosts in the middle
00:45:51they've been such the dominant team that was a chance to make it too they didn't take it and football
00:45:57is
00:45:58such a strange old beast you wonder if the game could spin on that
00:46:03it's been half an hour of mishaps for the conference league semi-finalists
00:46:10long throw by james hill
00:46:14henderson comes good catch always dropped it as he passed into his own player
00:46:18he's crashed into a bournemouth player and the penalty is given
00:46:23he came caught comfortably then bashed into his own player
00:46:28dropped the ball and his momentum took him on sinessi felt the touch and went down
00:46:34and there's there's barely a touch barely a touch but sinessi sensed it
00:46:40and goes down belatedly and theatrically and surely this will be var checked
00:46:48somewhere back in the long distant pass i'm sure the laws of association football said something like
00:46:57it's a contact sport has been var checked and it is a penalty dear oh dear game's gone
00:47:13that's the keeper the wrong way 2-0 bournemouth
00:47:19it's a deserved 2-0 lead
00:47:25from the joy of thursday night to the despair and i would imagine fury of a sunday afternoon
00:47:33good penalty
00:47:37four goals and five for him now
00:47:39i think given that crystal palace were between games against chapter
00:47:47a bournemouth victory today would not have been a surprise
00:47:50but the comparative easiness of it is a surprise
00:47:56true fair across the far post right
00:48:05true fair allowed to get to the bowline couldn't get over it ryan
00:48:15by mitchell
00:48:26and that's game over
00:48:30crystal palace have brought all their big guns on for the second half to no avail
00:48:37lovely finish
00:48:39balls in back-to-back games for the brazilian teenager
00:48:45brooks lovely ball and they've tried that pass so many times today
00:48:49the pass put the choir out of the game but this is a super finish across the goalkeeper
00:48:56tucked it away looking on very satisfied indeed the first team technical director simon francis
00:49:05what a wonderful servant he was to this club
00:49:13oh
00:49:16in comes a chip looking for saw hits the post that sort of day for palace
00:49:20mitchell back to the far post area and it's cleared away i think some might have been offside anyway but
00:49:26it sort of sums up their fortune today i don't think it would have counted maybe it would have been
00:49:32tight slam the ball against the post they're singing about going to leipzig they're on their way they're
00:49:40on their way and he had a european trophy to the two he picked up domestically in 2025
00:49:52to verney when it comes to sar across goal
00:49:59what would the situation have been today had crystal palace named their strongest team from the start
00:50:07crystal palace fans might have been singing about on their way on the way to leipzig in the
00:50:12the conference final are bournemouth on their way to a european place themselves on the pitch it's
00:50:18been all about them today winning by three goals and he'll help out by a dodgy penalty decision
00:50:23but they were really really well worth the win
00:50:26bournemouth super a much changed crystal palace side well below par
00:50:30bournemouth three crystal palace nil i think it wasn't physically it was my psychology the problem today
00:50:37you know it's it's you need to have quick solutions against you you need to move
00:50:41quick you need everything has to be quick and if you're slow in your head the legs are slow so
00:50:45we
00:50:46all know this and that's why it was more like this after this huge evening we just couldn't recover
00:50:54mentally quick enough we don't talk about this game anymore it's not really two days for the players
00:50:59recover don't think about football and on wednesday we will start with the team to prepare
00:51:05for the second leg because you know going to european final would be maybe the biggest game
00:51:10in crystal palace history a lot of the fans today the fans were top um what we needed at most
00:51:15to keep
00:51:15going but also the clean sheet as well it's a good mentality going forward you know they are coming
00:51:20from playing thursday night away another away game and probably it's not the game they wanted no with
00:51:27with intensity since the beginning and and i suppose it has been really difficult for them i think the
00:51:33players have shown that they are determined to fight until the last game i think to be in i think
00:51:3915 games and beat and run is is incredible and i hope we can finish it it's three more games
00:51:43three
00:51:43difficult games but i think everyone is is it's not i don't think we are feeling the pressure you
00:51:49know we are enjoying even if we know the results are important i see my team enjoying against least the
00:51:55other day i think we played really well today the same the two away games like let's keep this this
00:52:00level and
00:52:01we don't know if you're going to arrive and we obviously want to get it but i wouldn't like to
00:52:06change our mentality or our approach because we see it closer so bournemouth much the better team
00:52:12against a crystal palisade who for all the reasons that everybody's mentioned were not at their best
00:52:16today and alan despite the fact that you have a fond regard for premier league referees you might find
00:52:22yourself mildly critical of the of the penalty that allowed them to open the scoring yeah i didn't agree with
00:52:27it as uh at all to be honest i thought it was very very kind i mean he takes two
00:52:34steps after the yeah
00:52:35if there is contact what i have to stress is is not every contact is a foul and i thought
00:52:41i also think
00:52:42if you're going to give it for minimal contact like that then it encourages diving that that's the
00:52:48that's the issue and the referee's got a really good view of it i mean there is tiny tiny but
00:52:55certainly not
00:52:55enough to go down he takes two steps after and then sort of twists his body senesi so no not
00:53:01for me
00:53:01so because the on-field referee has seen the incident has seen the contact and decides that that's
00:53:07enough to award a penalty that's why there was no intervention from var no going over to look at the
00:53:13screen micah there was contact wasn't there but it was his fiat tricks after that he rolled two seconds
00:53:20later if he'd gone down straight away he was like hold up no problem but that's not a penalty it's
00:53:25soft i agree with alan not every contact is a penalty should we talk about something more positive
00:53:31yes that's alex scott oh i love him i i absolutely love him and he's my wild card for the
00:53:36for the world
00:53:36cup i tried to tell uh alan a year ago about anderson and i'm telling him about alex scott now
00:53:41i mean
00:53:42set pieces are so big in today's game he takes a good set piece i don't know what lerma's doing
00:53:47there just
00:53:47this judges it but it's his calmness on the ball when he gets on the ball and then can you
00:53:53see a pass
00:53:54outside of the foot evan ilsen should do a lot better but this is the best one for me can
00:53:58you receive
00:53:59the ball in between the lines a lot of midfielders hide and don't want the ball and yes he might
00:54:05only
00:54:05play it to the side but he's being brave on the ball and then keeping the ball moving i just
00:54:11every time i
00:54:12watch him he's so comfortable on the ball you know he's he's got that little technique and touch
00:54:19and he's got everything that a midfielder should have playing in the premier league and look at that
00:54:25for this delightful little touch there to him out and you know 67 touches and every time i watch him
00:54:32i just love his game i think he's really that good and long may it continue he's having a brilliant
00:54:37brilliant season he's standing out in almost every game he's superb and one thing that these two teams
00:54:43have in common is that their managerial situation is in flux at the moment andoni areola will be
00:54:50leaving oliver glasner will be leaving and what's quite interesting about the two of them is that they
00:54:55have an identical record in charge pretty much they've got the same number of points per game that's
00:55:01in iraola who's played 111 140 of them so it's 1.41 points per game and is ninth in the
00:55:08points
00:55:08ranking since he took charge and oliver glasner finds himself in exactly the same position different
00:55:15number of games obviously but with that that same record of 1.41 points per game and ninth in the
00:55:20in
00:55:21the points ranking and yet and yet we're not going to see them next season and they've both got an
00:55:27incredible chance to go out on a high i mean there is possible bournemouth could qualify for champions
00:55:31league it is very possible if aston villa finish fifth and win the europa league that sixth place
00:55:35will be a champion crystal palace have got a chance of winning uh winning a trophy so and they can
00:55:40go
00:55:40out on incredible highs and and they've both done brilliant jobs and clearly very very talented managers
00:55:45i'm going to see areola going because what he's brought to this bournemouth side in terms of
00:55:50the press the recruitment's been really brilliant and the way they play football so to have that
00:55:56potentially going to the champions league and leaving and not being a manager to take them
00:55:59a potential you don't know he's leaving the premier league oh yeah oh do you know something i don't
00:56:05no just leaving bournemouth i don't know something very specifically said i don't know something
00:56:12now there is a big bank holiday monday coming up the snooker world championship final between sean

00:57:07okay for tanaka sits up nicely good say
00:57:15dominant calvin lewin anthony what a fierce touch that is and he slipped in loom chauna here bloom chauna
00:57:29Out comes Mabrucken, he's lost his footing and he's slipped.
00:57:33Murphy went down momentarily, but he's cross-fired to Soler!
00:57:37Magnificent!
00:57:41Burns header, 2-0.
00:57:47Belieber, Gross, Hinchewood, Welbeck.
00:57:51Hinchewood again, Welbeck, Hinchewood.
00:57:53What a goal this will be.
00:57:55Hinchewood thumps it home and Brightner right back in this game.
00:58:01Burn for Wisser.
00:58:05Oh, it's short from Van Eker and Wisser with another chance to wrap it up.
00:58:11It'll come for Barnes.
00:58:12Barnes takes his time and rifles it home!
00:58:19Granit Xhaka will deliver this.
00:58:22There's a lot of pace on that, and it's in!
00:58:25Mukiel is header, Sunderland in front.
00:58:29Hugo Bueno is gonna take this corner kick.
00:58:32And it's in!
00:58:36Santiago Bueno with the header at the back post.
00:58:41Lewis Potter's ball in, isn't a bad one, and Coyote's there!
00:58:45And it's in, and Brentford have scored!
00:58:52Challenge by Jurf right on the edge of the box.
00:58:55It's a penalty.
00:58:59And it's 2-0 to Brentford.
00:59:04Tidy turn from Damska!
00:59:06There it is!
00:59:07And it's an excellent three points for Brentford.
00:59:12Saka.
00:59:14He's got the space.
00:59:15Oh, he's now got the position.
00:59:17Brilliant from Saka!
00:59:18And a tap-in for Jokeres!
00:59:23That's a delightful pass for Jokeres.
00:59:25A lot to do, though.
00:59:26He's got to wait for assistance.
00:59:28It comes from Saka.
00:59:29Saka!
00:59:35Saka!
00:59:35And Trossard chips it in for Jokeres!
00:59:40Arsenal have been outstanding in this first half.
00:59:46Micah, not only did Arsenal get the win,
00:59:48they got three goals,
00:59:49which has put them on a four-goal better goal difference
00:59:53than Manchester City.
00:59:53They've scored one more goal than Manchester City,
00:59:56have played two games more,
00:59:58but is momentum now back with Arsenal in the title race?
01:00:01I think beating Fulham was massive.
01:00:05It's very difficult because I always thought
01:00:07Arsenal wasn't creating enough.
01:00:09I think bringing Saka back in,
01:00:10coming back from injury,
01:00:11made a massive difference.
01:00:12I think Jokeres' runs in behind
01:00:15allowed them to get up the field a little bit earlier.
01:00:17I thought Trossard was good as well.
01:00:19So, in terms of momentum, yes,
01:00:21you say Arsenal will go all the way,
01:00:24but Man City, Man City always...
01:00:27They're always there or thereabouts,
01:00:29so it's going to be interesting to see
01:00:30towards the end of the season.
01:00:31Well, what is also very interesting
01:00:33is to see what you guys are going to predict.
01:00:35Having said countless times throughout the show,
01:00:36it's a fool's game to predict what's going to happen.
01:00:39Are you going first or am I going first?
01:00:40I think we're going to let Alan go first in this one
01:00:43because Alan's put a little bit of jeopardy
01:00:47into the whole equation.
01:00:50So, we'll take a look at who everybody's got left
01:00:51and remember also that Manchester City have got games in there.
01:00:56Arsenal have got their semi-final still to come
01:00:59in the Champions League,
01:01:00second leg of their semi-final to come on Tuesday.
01:01:02Look at the amount of games, though,
01:01:04Manchester City have left compared to Arsenal.
01:01:06I just think the belief that that will give Arsenal yesterday
01:01:09and the return of Saka and what he gives to that team
01:01:13in terms of balls into the box,
01:01:15energy, drawing so many players towards him,
01:01:18which then might free up one or two others.
01:01:20I think going forward, that result yesterday
01:01:22was huge for Arsenal and I can see them winning every game.
01:01:26When I look at Manchester City,
01:01:28they've got the experience.
01:01:30Some of the players have obviously been there
01:01:32and know what it's about.
01:01:33Clearly, the manager has,
01:01:34but I just think that that game at Bournemouth
01:01:36with the form there in,
01:01:37they might just get a draw there,
01:01:39so that's why I'm saying Arsenal.
01:01:41Micah?
01:01:43Both teams are going to win everything.
01:01:46OK.
01:01:47So now you've given yourself the more difficult task
01:01:50of trying to predict how many goals they're going to score.
01:01:52Well, I'm thinking of 2012.
01:01:54We did it on goal difference.
01:01:55I think Man City will do it on goal difference again.
01:01:58You've been saying this for a while.
01:01:59I have.
01:02:00Those 2012 comparisons.
01:02:02I have.
01:02:04Maybe, just maybe,
01:02:05I think it'll be the same this season.
01:02:07It's going to be very interesting to see.
01:02:08And, of course, Manchester City have got a couple more games
01:02:10to try and get that goal difference up
01:02:12than Arsenal have between now and the end of the season.
01:02:13But Arsenal have the advantage at the moment.
01:02:16Let's take a closer look, then,
01:02:18at the Premier League table.
01:02:19We've already looked at the very top of it.
01:02:21Manchester United's win means that they will be playing
01:02:23in the Champions League next season.
01:02:25Bournemouth have moved above Brentford and Brighton
01:02:28in the race for European football.
01:02:30Tottenham's second win in a row
01:02:32sees them climb out of the relegation zone
01:02:34with just three games left to play.
01:02:36Nottingham Forest, two points above them,
01:02:39go to Chelsea tomorrow.
01:02:53And the results are in for April's goal of the month.
01:02:56Rio and Gamora in third place
01:02:58with 17% of the vote.
01:03:00With 19%, it is Xabi Simons.
01:03:03And the winner with 22% is Karamitouma.
01:03:14Gross.
01:03:16Kadioulu.
01:03:16Oh, what a finish that is.
01:03:18It's Karamitouma with a fantastic goal.
01:03:23A blistering volley.
01:03:27Always worth seeing again.
01:03:28Thank you very much to Alan and to Micah.
01:03:31Lovely to have your company this evening
01:03:32as Spurs dealt their relegation rivals a hammer blow.
01:03:36Good night.
01:03:37Thank you very much.
