Russia says yacht making 'dangerous approach' in Channel prompted warning shots

The incident comes two days after armed British forces boarded and detained a sanctioned tanker in the Channel that is suspected of being part of Russia’s shadow fleet.

00:00A private yacht has reported that a Russian warship fired warning shots towards it south
00:05of the Isle of Wight, just outside British waters, according to a UK defense source who
00:10spoke to the news agency AFP.
00:12Britain's defense ministry said on Tuesday that the incident in the channel is being
00:16investigated.
00:18The source also noted that this is being treated as an isolated event and is not linked to
00:23the UK interception of a Russian Shadow Fleet tanker in the same part of the channel in
00:27the early hours of Sunday.
00:29Allegedly, the Russian Navy vessel fired the warning shots at a distance of approximately
00:34500 meters.
00:36No injuries or damage were reported by the yacht, which continued its journey after a
00:41welfare visit by a vessel dispatched from a British Navy ship.
00:45According to further reports, another British Navy ship, HMS Mercy, was monitoring the Russian
00:50ship at the time of the incident.
